Actually I believe that Obama may be the best thing that's happened politically in the U.S. over the past century. Most people have become too complacent and disassociated from politics and government.
Not two more parties, but no parties would be a better solution. As it is the politicians are more responsible to their party than they are to their constituents. There are just too many issues for any one party to create an acceptable agenda that encompasses the desires of their candidates constituency. The true purpose of BOTH parties is to increase and perpetuate their parties control of the system.
Not more parties, NO parties. "If the party isn't printed on the ballot, Blacks won't know who to vote for." - B.H. Obama
Can't argue with that. What we really need is a government made up of persons who are not accountable to any one except their constituents.
I've never seen anything quite like the Tea Party - at least not on this large of a scale. It's truly a party within a party. Counted as Republicans, they will not be obedient to the House Republican leadership this winter, creating a difficult situation that should be amusing to watch. While it is certain that the Republicans will pick up some congressional seats, they would have surely gained more seats if the Tea Baggers hadn't pushed candidates through the primaries that have very little mainstream appeal to general election voters. Mainstream Republicans would be trying to throw the Tea Baggers out of the party, were it not for the fact that they have no other strategy for winning the election. I wish we could bring back Bill Clinton for another term. He would be handling everything better.
this isn't something new that liberals brought to the table judicial activism has been around since the establishment of the supreme court. the precedent on states rights seems to change when convenient to those in power.
I'd say that it would help if the Constitution was taught in school, but considering that only 9 persons understand it and even they can't always agree on what it says tends to make it so malleable that it can say what ever current agenda requires it to say.
that's what's so awesome about it! i'm not saying it's perfect. but it is vague for a reason. me and my civil liberties are sure happy about its vagueness.
It's a done deal, the House of Representative will be under Republican control next year. The voters are so mad at Obama that they are willing to hurt themselves to hurt him. They will soon regret their impulsiveness.
A Democrat in the White House, Democrats will still hold the Senate, and the Republican Majority in the House will be so small it may not matter, except we'll have that drunk, Boner, for Speaker. On of two things will happen, they will compromise and get something accomplished, or the Republicans will bring everything to a halt. It's going to be an interesting 2 years, but my guess the Republicans will screw up so bad the Democrats will take everything back in 2012; a significant number of the new Republicans are the irrational unexperienced TeaBaggers who seem to think if they yell "Socialist" loud enough everyone will bend over and kiss their asses. .
I'm now waiting to see how the Republican party responds to the voters who have tried to send them a message.
The message is cut the deficit AND create jobs. It's impossible to do both. The Republicans are screwed. It's so much easier to sit back and criticize.
Cut the deficit: Reduce government spending. Eliminate funding of unnecessary, and/or redundant programs and agencies. Reduce the size of government by a sizable percentage. Reduce government salaries, pensions and benefits to be more comparable to that of the private sector employees. Create Jobs: Get government out of the way, eliminate uncertainty of what new government mandates might be cost prohibitive to increasing the size of a businesses employing new hires. Impossible? Then give up. Criticism will abound no matter what. Ignore it.
