It's most likely the most bearable planet of the galaxy.

If only we were capable of space travel to explore the universe. I know I would be counted among the few lucky enough to be chosen to leave the planet.

Fuck all the excuses, in the middle east it's always been about those religious monkeys (Christians, Jews, and Muslims) and their fucking Armageddonist monkey god.
I just hope when they are finished there's still a bit of un-scorched earth left for us heathens.

I watched a documentary once.. think it was one of those Stephen Hawking docs.. The closest earth-like planet is somewhere around 200 years worth of travel from Earth.. meaning you'd have to build a spaceship that could harbor roughly 4 generations before it made it's destination.. now that's some serious sci-fi shit right there

not only taught to recognize the differences, but to see the differences as something negative and scary. i think we should be encouraged to see the differences between us, but we should see it as an opportunity to learn and develop greater empathy and understanding towards others instead of seeing differences as reasons to pull back and be scared of each other.

shit like this makes me want to pack my car and drive north.... maybe i'll try to find chronictom and live in the woods.

At this rate there will be no earth left to fight over.
We might as well all stop having children because its them and their children that will suffer most at the hands of these pointless wars and they will be left to rebuild what we have created and destroyed. Most dont think about the effects that this bullshit is going to have on our future generations. I feel guilty enough as it is bringing life into this planet, I hope for my child's generations sake (and all the generations that follow) that we man the fuck up and sort this shit out before its too late.

I find it quite unnuancated actually. A lot of the problems there of the past 2 centuries are not caused in the first place by religious monkeys but by political and economical interference of countries outside of the middle east. If I thought that post was really ment seriously it would sooner deserve a neg rep rather than a positive one.

^religion is just used as moral fodder and to fan puritanical flames. Religious people are most assuredly duped by a huge facade and it has been used to make them follow blindly into war for centuries. Nothing new.

Religion is (in many cases) politics. You have some priest or other interpreting some scripture or other and telling you what to do and what not. Same thing a government does.

And often (in the US) the politician that interprets the law, is also interpreting it against his moral high ground as being a Bible reader.

    As far as OP topic:

I haven't read anything other than that there are mine-sweeping shit going on. Has Iran responded to this at all?

You have 3 religions, one is told by their holy book to kiss the ass of the other (or they ain't 'gwan up to heaben'), those two believe the latter are sub-human savages who in turn believe the former two are infidels. The rest is hubris.

Wars about oil and resources aren't just about keeping a supply. They are also about preventing the supply from going to enemies of our countries.

Another problem about the institution of religion, and the three reigions descended from Abraham in the Middle East are the most blatant, is that they perpetuate a zeitgeist of duality, black-white, up-down, good-evil...

This is a product of the Dawn of Agriculture, when man was forced to develop and work in a structure of in-group - out-group. The Dawn of Agriculture was also the beginning of the institutions of religion.

Our hunter-gatherer ancestors had spirituality as opposed to religion and saw the world in terms of multiplicity. There were still battles and fights and people were killed, but it was not a winner take all situation, nor an issue of decimating or taking over another culture.

Our dualistic zeitgeist, perpetuated by religion, leads to divisiveness and that in-group/out-group mentality.
