Bargaining with the feds isn't immoral, that is, if you don't think threatening those who threaten your life and freedom is immoral.

It is somewhat hypocritical in that he's withholding information, but it isn't that black and white. If that information could cause serious damage and potentially ruin the lives of relatively innocent people, perhaps even threaten the state of relations between countries, then it's probably better that he not release it and instead use it only for leverage should the occasion arise.

People have tried other ways with the feds for half a century now, nothing else has worked so far.

The authorities in the various countries should be thanking him. Not only has he exposed the fact that most of them are corrupts megalomaniacs, but he has demostrated a fundamental security flaw in the whole idea of hegemonic governance in today's world. Voting is a system that further remove our right to take part in the world's democracy, not to be slaves to the ideals of a few elite members of the ruling class. They thought they could hide the truth from us, Assange has now shown everyone that they cannot any longer.

I wonder if when he has to stand trial they will make him pledge an oath to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

  5. haha! I read this afternoon that they're fast-tracking his extradition to Sweden and the Swedish authorities are rumoured to be planning his extradition to the States if the case doesn't hold up- On what grounds! They are going to have this guy one way or the other!

Wow this is great! Definitely cyberwar. Good to see the hacker community unite to show displeasure at these corporations and governments that continue to use secrecy and power to repress the free flow of information around the world.

As you probably know Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks has been arrested in London based upon trumped up charges in Sweden. Julian is being targeted for aiding the release of thousands of diplomatic cables, the Iran and Iraq War Logs and video showing US troops attacking and killing journalists.

All this information released is a thorn in the side of many governments. And with Julian saying he has a lot more to release including documents relating to big multinational corporations like Bank of America and BP, they are doing what they can to shut him up and stop any cash flowing to Wikileaks.

In response I'm calling for a sitewide protest (which hopefully will grow to other sites). I've gone and changed my avatar to that of Julian Assange and I'm asking others to do the same. You can use my avatar (it comes from Interpol's wanted poster) as yours.

Let us present a unified front backing freedom of the press and the Internet. Now is the time for all good people to come to the aid of the Internet and freedom, before it's too late!

By all of us having the same avatar, we can not only show our solidarity with Julian, but drive all our "monitors" crazy because it will be harder for casual observers to tell who is who on the internet if we all have the same avatar.

Please support Wikileaks and Julian Assange and Freedom of the Press and Internet any way you can!

I wonder how much devastatingly damaging information about the Russian secret police and many many other extremely dangerous organizations, who would kill him and his entire family in a heartbeat if they knew he had it, is now being uploaded to WL's servers?

More importantly, who would leak such a thing? Who I ask you, who?

If you'd like to use the image of Julian in my avatar as yours go to User CP/edit avatar and add this url... Or go to page 6 of the avatars and you'll see the image there.

I would need to evaluate the evidence and laws before either supporting or condemning the guy.
