Sorry, but I've had ENOUGH of enabling irresponsible behavior and I refuse to do it any longer -- and it's high time that YOU stop your denial. This is a matter of personal responsibility. EVERYONE, Rainbow or otherwise, is ultimately responsible for his or her own actions. That is an immutable fact of human life.

NO ONE can take responsibility FOR you. Others can GUIDE you, INFORM you of the choices you have and the CONSEQUENCES of the choices you make. But ultimately, only YOU can make those choices -- and once you've made them, YOU MUST LIVE WITH THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR CHOICES, whether for the better or for the worse.

It's Karma, baby -- and NO ONE is immune from it.

That is very right...so whats with some of rainbows trying to play God and decide who gets what based on what kind of a person they're labeled as?

    all right, all right.
We know that people are imperfect and loaded with baggage.

THe older folks who broke their backs for years digging shotters, being seed and clean up camp, and hauling those 100 pound bags of rice down mountain trails don't want to see Rainbow become a woods party without intent.

    Remember intent?
    PRAY FOR WORLD PEACE.
the rest is gravy: seeing the folks you haven't seen in a while, making the babies, bearing the babies, being in the parade, hanging with new people, passing along the tradition, but traditions change. The heart should remain but the mechanics can change.

The younger ones have all these years of stories of what Rainbow was in 78, or even 95 for some!
Maybe they don't get the real life of Rainbow: that the shitters need to be dug, the food needs a fire, Shanti Sena needs to circle people for everyone's good.
But some do. Some dig, haul, wash and help.

A few oldfarts sit on their laurels, not teaching anyone else, not sharing effort.
So take the clueless blissbunnies and the oldfarts and get them together. THey'll improve the gathering, or at least get out of the cook's way for a while, improve themselves, and each other.
The young turks will get a dose of the old vibe they can nurture, and the oldfarts might get it rekindled.
As for the legitimate threats to physical safety, be part of Shanti Sena, or support them however you can: food deliveries, water, blankets, some entertainment.

When you create a non-leader-intended culture EVERYONE is responsible.
everyone has a responsibility to offer help because it is everyone's scene.
THose who can help the junkies, should (we should be helping before we get to the forest, too, and after we are back: teach them to paint houses, fix cars, make soap earn a living as they travel-- Thank you Watersnake for always doing that, you are a good man, Gene)
if tweakers tweak you, be supply, have a kitchen, be part of CALM.
Rainbow has basic rules: no gins no booze in the sanctuary.
Let's remember we are in sacred space: that Jesus freaks and UFO fairies can camp next to each other and meat-heads can eat Krishna food for a meal or two.
Here, it's about Peace in this physical world and beyond.

i try not to advocate rainbow to kids anymore. and with yet another story of kids gettin beat and thier rollin homes destroyed . . . . i know when i hithch into a gathering by myself, that ill be fine, no one will fuck with me and if they do i can handle it. but i dont like heroin or violence or most anydrug so why would i want to put myself into that position? its a nice dream and a cool experience, but maybe its time for the true rainbows to abandon these gatherings and do thier good work in the real world. oh wait, i think they already have.

The kids who had the mississippi incident...they claimed that it was elders who did this to them. The problem started when they asked for some of the food they had donated to the kitchen. They were hunrgy, that was the mistake.
    Ideas of divison
    ideas of iscolation
    ideas of a class system
    That is what kills rainbow.

Its a lot of young rainbows who have been making the Chicago Tribune, the LA Times, various local papers, and MSNBC. They are feeding those who would have spit on them in a normal day, i've seen it, and now, we are all brothers and sisters.

"Redneck" men crying on the shoulder of a young hippie man, begging them
not to leave them. "You are all we have" they say.

Old Rainbows, Young Rainbows, who cares of a label.

Today, something happened here in the (lovely, yet inner city) of Historic Old Louisville, Ky that made me think of this thread and some of the debate goin' on about the negative aspects of a-camp, addicts and judgements. Thankfully, i have never had a bad experience with anybody at the gatherings iv'e attended; ocala and california 04, (both abundant with a- campers) but this is a simple little thing that bein' Rainbow has taught me, time and again... while out walking my dog Buddha today, a grey bearded, shaggy, wild haired old brother, wearing a flimsy orange rain poncho and another younger dude walkin' with him pushing a shopping cart, smiled at my dog and me and asked me the usual question i get: "what kind of a dog is that?" and i replied "he's a spiritual dog brother", and when i said brother, his eyes just lit up, and i could see this amazing sense of connected humanity ignite in him, and i said "he is a rainbow dog!" and he just got a big smile on his shaggy ol face. He said "i know Rainbow!" and we both just knew. He walked away smiling because i called him brother and he knew i meant it, cause i had addressed him like the human being he was, not just the homeless alcoholic he may have looked liked to the average city dweller. This is why i accept all of humanity at gatherings cause they help teach me about love, and i need to learn all i can about that!

Denial????? You seem to be denying the good that comes out of Rainbow. If we can turn one person on to a rightous way of life than that's a good thing. Bad things surround us in every form in Babylon; the ratio is much lower at Rainbow.

Oh yes, Rainbow is full of irrresponsible people (read with a sarcastic overtone)

The New Waveland Cafe came out of Rainbow, Skeeter. What did you do to help the people of the hurricane regions (oh & throwing money at FEMA & Red Cross doesn't count)

Have you been to many Rainbow Gatherings outside the U.S.? If you have, then you should know from your own experience that the shit going down with alcoholism and hard-drug addiction -- and all the bad karma that comes with it -- at Rainbow Gatherings is unique to those in this country.

And I will not put up with it any longer -- period. I really don't give a damn if you think that my prejudice against alcoholics and hard-drug addicts is a bad thing.

But I'm honest enough to admit that I have such a prejudice. Will I apologize for it? No. Alcoholism and hard-drug addiction destroyed my family. And they destroyed the community I grew up in. That will haunt me for the rest of my life. So I accept my prejudice as an inseparable part of me.

Brother, I understand your hurt surrounding alcoholism and drug addiction...it has ruined my family as well. It's insidious and disheartening. But turning someone away at a gathering for being an addict or an alcoholic is...well, it's down right babylonian. If you know anything about alcoholism and drug addiction, you must realize that these people already feel awful and if they come to the woods, turning them away will only prove their low self esteem right.

Skeeter: April 8 The Day of Conscience..."April 8 people manifest strong feelings for their fellow human beings, often displaying well-marked humanitarian and altruistic tendencies. For April 8 people it is not enough to be admired or at the center of what is going on (although they often are), but to express the concerns of their associates, friends family or countrymen. The welfare of others is of the highest importance to them, in extreme cases even greater than their own. It is possible, however, that they may be highly intolerant as well, valuing one social group (of which they are ususally a member) over another."

Just another example of why we need to be TOLERANT of people who are simply living out their life path issues, even the "intolerant" ones!!!

Minutes of the Thanksgiving Council held at the White Buffalo Farm haven't been posted to me yet, but I assure you that A-camp was discussed at council. Lots of family want A-camp NOT on the main trail to the meadow but off to the side. I talked with Rob and we both agree that, that beautiful energy that Rainbow brought down to the New Waveland Cafe IS going to be at the Colorado National!!!

we have a whole kitchen full of alcoholics.......who don't drink during the Gathering. Most of them used to drink at Gatherings, most of them drink when they aren't at Gatherings; but given Love & a good place to be, they are healed, even if it is only the weeks that we are Gathering as Family

sorry Skeeter but everyone deserves a chance to heal.

if Gatherings in the US bother you, than maybe those Gatherings are not the place for you to be. there is nothing that says that you can't focalize US regionals that are drug & alcohol free. turn your prejudism into something positive.
