Exactly, nothing would change at Greenwich; everyone else would have to adjust their understanding of what the hour on their clock means. England and France pioneered time standardization, so they should get that advantage anyway.

With it being the SAME time everywhere, a true hippie would be onboard. Plus we can all celebrate New Years at the exact same moment.

Sounds like too much effort with little to no real reward. :)

It's not about equality, it's about what time it is! The sunn isn't in the same position from Melbourne's point of view as it is New York's

I'll assume you're talking about Melbourne, Australia and not Melbourne, Florida there, Mitok. But you're certainly not telling me anything I didn't know age 5.

So in order for somebody to keep their certain shift they'd have to rearrange their lifestyle? Companies would have to completely overhaul their shifts and probably large numbers of employees. Doesn't make sense still, to me.

Then why would a universal time prove convenience to anybody?

    why so afraid of progress?

Maybe we should continue to suck up all the world's oil because devising new forms of energy means building new things.

In this global economy, a global time is quite progressive... adjustments would have to be made, but people have been forced to adjust to the ridiculous time zones... cross this line and your an hour ahead/behind makes more sense than the same numerical time everywhere?

The numerical reference doesnt matter... having a universal time helps us identify as a world of people - the less lines drawn the better.

Nothing would change except for the time on the clock.

No matter, it's gonna happen whether you like it or not. May take 10 years, may take 50, but it will happen.

The sun is still up in the middle of the day no matter what the clock says.

14:20 may have different connotations across the world, but the concept doesn't rely on political lines.

In practice its much better than the current system, you travel you learn the "hours" of the location just as you learn to set your watch x hours ahead/behind... instead of a political line the day truly circles around when the sun comes up and goes down.

As it is now, northwest indiana is on chicago time, solely because of the metro area... If you can pick and choose your time zone what is really the basis for having them?

you people are all so silly. ever taken a flight across timezones? it's pretty confusing. it would be the same time EVERYWHERE, that is convenience. no one's life would have to be rearranged, just your clock. sheesh.

Ever skipped a timezone and not know it, being 45 mins late to something you thought you were on time for?

I've done it on many occasions...

    Yes timezones are stupid...

And, why don't we have an even number of hours??? Why not have 10 hours in a day? Why not 20, 15, 30, etc?

This AM/PM stuff is dumb enough... why have the day split into 24???

I don't want my times all frigged up just so some planes will be able to say they are arriving at a certain time.

They are doing just fine from what I hear...so as they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. ;)

    Logical improvements are always welcome...

The Q here is why do we go by this ridiculous way of timekeeping at all.

And for us americans... its very similar to why do we use the ridiculous "standard" measurement system when metric is clearly superior...

You say nothing would change but that's absolutely absurd. What about folks with kids who live in areas where it's daylight from 11pm to 11am, but their kids go to school from 8am to 3pm? Their kids would never get to play in the daylight really, and nobody wants their young kids out after dark. No matter what the time on the clock is, it's dangerous when it's dark.

just because the time is 11pm, doesnt mean it would be dark. the school would just change its time.
