True in one sense. But it's quite possible that we can expand the range of our consciousness, and percieve things we had not percieved before. Life is a process of growth and development - it is feasible that this life is in essence an arena for 'soul evolution'. Something within us learns and develops as a result of our experience here. At least in some cases. More likely where there is a conscious will to develop and grow.
Desire is a thought thought is a property of the mind. God is transcendent of the mind and therefore free of desires.
i think maybe the disagree'ing to due to the definition of G-d between you two. do you think G-d wants us to enter his kingdom? or, should i say, do you think Something wants us to ascend, to have a light spirit and to continue into goodness knows freely? or, is G-d simply whatever things are, and exactly how it should be, accepting the good and the bad, because It obviously created and condones it? i think if you agree with the first few, then maybe It/He does have desires, but maybe the latter, it doesn't have any desires? who knows what G-d is? =P
I'd say desire is a vital impulse which in humans is mediated through mind. The idea of God having desires is a case of humans projecting their own reality onto God.
Intent is more pure than desire... When we intend something, and create a hope and a seed for something to materialize and manifest, we consider carefully what intentions we set. I guess it depends too how you define intentions, but I consider them to be like prayers. Theres more love to be put an intent... and as long as it is driven on a healt felt well-meaning desire, I don't see too much wrong with it, or how it relates very much with the typical spiritual concept of desire.
In and of itself, intent is neither good or bad. It depends what you intend. Intent can arise as a result of desire, and again, dpending on the desire that can be good or bad. It is necessary to see clearly the difference between desire and aspiration. The energy behind desires is usually self-serving and limited in it's scope. Aspiration, on the other hand, seeks truth, and is even ready to relinquish or control lower desires to get it. There are problems with saying 'God has desires' because God already has everything - the divine is complete in itself. Nothing is needed from 'outside' and anyway, there is no outside. Another big problem with this whole discussion is that different people understand the terms 'intent' 'desire' and 'will' to mean different things.
Desire:1 : conscious impulse toward something that promises enjoyment or satisfaction in its attainment God certainly displays this.
What is there other than God for god to attain? The state of Godhood is one where the totality of all pleasures is experienced at all times. (so oshnute sarvaan kaamaan saha - taittiriyopanishad).
Wow, it's right in your face. God's movement and actions are not uncaring, they show God's intent and desire- the raising of souls. Perhaps God will remove your blindness to this truth.
Raising a soul is a commitment that God makes, a sacrifice of time focused upon pleasures to bring another soul into the fold. God pays caring attention to God's children. Do you think raising someones awareness is pleasurable to God when God knows of the pain required for the attainment of awareness? The awareness of anothers pain is not pleasurable, do you think God ignores or does not care about this? Are you suggesting that God does not desire to end our pain and grant us loving union with God? Your vision of Godhood is colored by your own desires (totality of all pleasures experience at all times). God is more than this. God sets aside these pleasures to raise us, so that we can have these things too. This is God's sacrifice to us, and you act like God has made no sacrifice, you disgusting piece of shit! I hope your discipline is harsh, painful, and immediate!
