Way back when I started smoking pot, me and 2 friends were on our way to the desert to kill jackrabbit's. We were in a car and had 2 joints each. We got lit up by the CHP and quickly ate our pot. I just got a fix-it ticket and since the pot we had was killer (Acapulco Gold), we cut our trip short and stopped at a park instead, thinking we'd get too stoned to drive (and left our guns in the car btw ). No effects at all. Zero. Zip. Nada. Nada damn thing. Because THC is only oil or alcohol soluable. What does that mean? In simple tems, it means you won't get high unless the pot is mixed with oil or alcohol. Pot doesn't need to be heated with oil or alcohol but it removes the THC from the bud faster and more completely. Occasionally I read where people swear they got high from eating raw bud, and it reminds me of people who claim they get high from drinking bong water.
i believe the reasoning for dissolving in alchohol or heating in oils is that THC is a very sticky molecule. even on a molecular level, this means that the molecules attract to eachother. if you eat plain weed, the cannabinoids are locked into resin glands, and are present in solid clumps (abeit microscropic). by observation, we can see that dissolving the thc in alchohol seperates the cannabinoid molecules and equally distributes them (more or less) amongst the volume of alchohol. when heating in oil, the cannabinoids once again are drawn out and spread out into the oil, seperating the conglomerates of cannabinoids and serving them in a (relatively) homogenous solution. when smoking the weed, the cannabinoids are thrust out of the plant and into smoke, which would mean the cannabinoids are once again homogoneously spaced. however it is not the fact that its homogenous that makes it absorbable, but the fact that in being a homogenous state, the cannabinoids must no longer be held together by whatever forces normally wo9uld make them very sticky. the molecules themselves are isolated, instead of being in clumps, and this woudl effect the way the molecules are tranferred into the bloodstream. i dont have any evidence i can show for this principle, but i believe it to be the fundamental behind the questions of heating or whatever.
one of the best bill posts i've seen in a while, and pretty much what i've been thinking. its not so much that you need to heat it or steep it in alcohol to absorb the THC, its that otherwise your normal stomach chemistry won't do enough quickly enough to get it all out of the cannabis and into your system.... of course being in alcohol (as opposed to fat) is an added bonus because first of all it gets you buzzed in its own right, and second it helps the THC be absorbed faster still than when cooking with it...
Shit, it will get you way more stoned if you prepare it and eat it correctly. Stoned to the point of tripping. At least, that's how I understand it.
the trichomes on the female plant are made up of 4 types of glands. we are only concerned with one of these. It is refered to as a capsulated stock. The "capsule" at the head of this stock is what containes the 600+ psychoactive compounds that get you baked.
Whoa whoa whoa all this biology talk, better get me a diagram. Heheh. So we can just soak a good amount of bud in a bottle of vodka and end up with a nice greenish THC-saturated beverage that gets you droned like a motherfucker? I think we need more testing on the subject. See if it works with beer at the same rate as rum, whiskey, etc.
