I'm sorry, but if I visit a friend and they've got the Backstreet Boys playing and it's not a joke, I'm outta there. Milli Vanilli on the other hand.... 'ba ba ba ba baybay, don't forget my number!'
Mellow shit doesent really do anything for me unless it has alot of flow. Anything is going to sound Trippy on L but that dosent necesarly mean the music itself is trippy. You know when you have found psychedelic music when it fucks with your head even while sober.
I'm not so sure dylan turned the beatles on, there's that guy, with the icing and the lsd ordered from europe, he wrote "the man who turned on the world" and i am pretty positive he turned on 1/2 of the beatles. As far as LSD music, "There's a Riot Goin On" by Sly and the Family Stone is superb. But no one gives this guy any credit besides black musicians and funkheads. Funkadelic's albums pre 74 are the most 'authentic' psychedelic albums that remain within the realm of good music, good ole funky music, and not in the realm of noise. This music is nothing at all like Flashlight, give up the funk, or one nation. This is before funkadelic and parliament merged, when funkadelic was very juicy acid funk rock. If you're looking for the ultimate acid music, this is where it's at. And the backstreet boys do in fact, suck shit through straws. However, listening to them on LSD would probably be awesome.
"Stand!" is also a really great Sly album. "Riot..." is real nitty-gritty funk, and it grooves harder than the preceding records, but it is pretty dark. Stand! is more of the cliche uplifting Sly sound that you sing along with, but there is an obvious lack of rocks and sherms and other volatile substances. Btw, that is a bombassfucking picture in your sig 2cesarewild. Keep the funk alive!
Always. And yea that's why I disagree when people say Stand! is the crown jewel. I think Riot shows you what Sly was really capable of. It also mirrors the death of the sixties IMO. Fresh is dam funky too, just not as deep as Riot.
shpongle, massive attack, tool, aperfectcircle, porcupine tree, classic rock...whatever is good for me...it varies on what type of music im listening to at the point in my life that the trip is takin pl;ace
After seeing people's appreciation for funk music, I feel like listing some good albums that haven't been listed. Herbie Hancock (Sextant, Headhunters, Thrust), RH Factor (Hardgroove, Strength EP, Distractions), P-Funk (Mothership Connection, Motor Booty Affair), Nicholas Payton (SonicTrance), James Brown (The Payback), Christian McBride (Live at Tonic), The Philidelphia Experiment, and Soulive... These are all very nice to listen to when you are high, and will inspire you and your trip parterns to make sweet love down by the fire. I just picked up 5 tabs, so anybody suggestions? Keep the good shit coming...
personally i think syd barret was a horrible musician...even though floyd under his lead was "truly" psychedelic...i hate it; post-barrett floyd is awsome though
Frankly I don't think there really is an "acid music" everyone has their own taste, some stuff is bound to sound better on acid then others, but its all personal taste, but one thing I can recommend is Mazzy Star
MadcapSyd, you are wrong my friend, I know the ultimate acid music, and I am willing to share with all of you people, they are called Lightning Bolt. There, you have been saved
I'd have to disagree that P Funk is good for acid. I mentioned earlier that pre 74 Funkadelic is real acid music. When Parliament and Funkadelic merged in the late 70s it really killed the whole Funkadelic acid funk rock personality, and George Clinton took sort of a Disco vibe to everything, aka a Parliament vibe. Now soulive is a band I love, Eric Krasno is one of the best guitarists out there. He needs more publicity. The self-titled Live compilation is excellent for tripping out, but their shows have a shitty vibe for people like me. I've seen herbie twice, love the albums listed. He's probably the best jazz pianist around, his shit will make your head spin sometimes. Check out the bonnaroo superjam from 2005. It's herbie, questlove, pino palladino, and lionel louke. Uber, UBER shit goes down. At one point they play with a tempo where they like speed up and slow down with each other. You can get it at rootslive.com or something like that. Was tripping face when I saw that it was siiick. On superjams, if you want some more uber funk, I mean this shit sizzles, get bonnaroo superjam 04. It's got eric krasno, neal evans, stanton moore, maceo parker, george porter jr and i think a couple others. Those are all huge names in funk. They play soul power, i walk on guilded splinters, a meters song i forget the name, everything is everything , if you want me to stay, just all classics. You can get it at archive.org. JB, I am not a big fan of him... his music was kind of liek the beginning of funk, real simple shit not many guitar solos, but I do like "In the Jungle Groove" and "Sex Machine," and respect what he did. I haven't listened to any of the other guys listed but I tend to stay away from a lot of funk that isn't 'classic,' or doesn't include at least one name I know. MMW - End of the World Party is super funky. Going to listen to that tonight in fact while I play Donkey Kong Country. It used to be my tripping soundtrack with the self-titled Soulive. Little Feat is like Blues Slide New Orleans Funk, you can get a bunch of their shows at archive.org. Eric Krasno and Robert Walters are in a band called "Fantastic Four" that you can grab from archive, they do funk covers but pretty much anything with Krasno normally smokes. But I stand by my statement that you should listen to There's a Riot Goin On by Sly, the album is insane straight, but on acid you can really hear the depth of everything, it's so intense. It's my #1 recommendation. And for my last recommendation, I say War - The World is a Ghetto. The title track and City,Country,City are epic tribal funk tunes.
Yea dude I love it, and I miss it. But one thing I forgot to mention is Quicksilver Messenger Service. It's not funk but it's really ultimate acid music. Cipollina has the most distinctive guitar tone ever. Guy plays with a mixture of solid state and tube amps, uses metal finger picks and his wammy a hell of a lot. It just sounds like aliens are shooting space rays everywhere with the music. It's fucking awesome. Cipollina is that guy who comes out on Closing of Winterland in the middle of the jam in Not Fade Away with the metal fingerpicks on. He truly is the man. Died in his 40s of emphazyma(sp?).

i agree with madcapsyd, your taste in music effects what you enjoy wen your on acid, i love dylan, the klaxons, cream, kasabain, the rapture.
