assessment is necessary to check the legitimacy of claims, are you saying they should all be rubber stamped ?
Why would you feel like a criminal making a genuine claim I dont understand that ?

The money the government has paid to ATOS to "assess" disability claims is more than they would have spent if they'd just signed everyone off with a doctor's note.

That's right. A doctor's note. Because all of these claims that get assessed, most of which are thrown out and most of which are assessed by robots with clipboards who haven't got a clue, before they are assessed by ATOS they have already been assessed by a qualified doctor.

You haven't got a clue what it's like for millions of people out of work, unable to work, stuck in the renting sector and struggling to put food on the table have you.

I hope you never have to find out first hand what being assessed by the DWP is like. Subject to a humiliating so called medical test by people who are only there to try to prove you're well enough to work. Despite the fact that they can easily check out records of stuff like hospital admissions, specialist diagnosis etc. I found it humiliating and anxiety producing, which in turn makes my condition worse. 3 months of intense worry that one is going to be left high and dry. It's not easy coping with an illness that prevents you doing normal stuff - the assessment only makes it a whole lot worse, and even if you do get awarded benefit, you always know in the back of your mind that soon, there will be another round of it.

I passed the test because I am pretty physically fucked up. I know another person with long term mental issues who failed it. They then had to appeal. Because of the mental issues, they couldn't cope with the process of filling the forms etc, so had to go to a charity to do it for them. Previously of course, before the tories slashed legal aid they could have had a proper solicitor to represent them. As it was I had to go with them to the appeal. The appeal is like something out of Kafka. Held in a courtroom with a panel sitting in judgement up on high. Designed to be intimidating and as I said, to make you feel like a criminal, as it's normally only criminals or those charged with an offence that end up in a courtroom. Not people with severe mental problems. My friend also easily got awarded benefit at the appeal, over turning the decision made by the DWP based on the ATOS test. The effect on his mental health was pretty devastating during the months of waiting on reduced money. Why? Because the test is not fit for purpose and is there only to help the tories 'balance the books' - a total joke to anyone who isn't completely financially illiterate. And something they now seem to have gone quiet about. You only have to look at the number of decisions that get reversed at appeal to know there's something deeply flawed about the system. Or the numbers who committed suicide because of the tests.

So if you get too ill to work in the UK, beware. They'll pile on the stress, ignore the words of consultant doctors and give you the run around as much as possible at a time when you're least able to deal with pressures like that. I'm not a nutjob and I am able to speak up for myself. My pal was lucky because he has friends who helped him to cope, but many many others don't. I hate to even think how such people fare under this present system.

That's enough personal stuff anyway. I don't usually even mention that I'm ill on here, and I don't like having to go through it all. But I do think this is an issue which could affect anyone at any time.

They're not going to deliberately go out of their way to make things harder for people, all the while lining their own pockets. At least the true labour MPs won't.

Nearly right. I hate the tory.... scum because they have outlawed cannabis for both medicinal and recreational purpose, and many other things.

Oh but according to you I'm selfish, and "there are other more important things to deal with" right?

Sticking exclamation marks into your statements does not add any more truth to them.

There's nothing selfish about demanding to have the freedom to grow, smoke, vape, make hash brownies.

You vote for selfish reasons, not me.
