    Just wanted to say Hi,
I own land and buldings in Eastern europe, and am hoping to give one rent free for an idea like this.
I have businesses but like others am absolutely sick of the rat race, and more importantly shallow, sick-minded, egotistical people.
I will continue to read here, and what the hell I am seriously considering either joining a project like this, or at least helping all I can,
    x

P.S Just realised I am in the UK commune section, so if it needs to be moved feel free.

    Erm, Hi everyone. I'm Mike,
I've been traveling round Europe and NZ these past few years, primarily In New Zealand where I have been living rough and "WOOFing" for people on organic farms.
I'm going to be coming 'home' to the UK in March 2011 and I was wondering if there are any communes (or prospective communes) that would be happy to have me come and live/help out?
I've been studying Soil management, biodynamics, Permaculture, Arberoligy; agriculture and I come form an engineering background.. I love working with natural materials, I'm kick ass with a chainsaw, I've worked on many building sites building everything from houses to outdoor hot tubs and showers and I can cook like a daemon!
I would love the chance to come and help out in the UK, somewhere I haven't been for a while... Please, get in touch with me, feel free to email me at akabungle1@hotmail.co.uk and check out my WOOF site for some of the things I've been up to recently its - https://www.wwoof.co.nz/profile.php?profile_id=41084 I look forward to hearing from people... Pura Vida!!

Many people seem to be waiting for someone else to set the commune up, and then invite them to join. I think we need to accept that we're individually responsible if we want to actually make this happen, and we're each going to have to put a little time and energy into the organising and networking side of things. You get out what you put in as they say.

Another good reason to start organising things ourselves, is that we can create the exact type of commune that we're looking for. Some people want total self-sufficiency, others just want some friendly, like-minded people to rent-share with.

To help people take the initiative, I've made a forum specifically to discuss, organise and advertise communes. I've posted an ad describing my ideal commune, and I'm directing as many like-minded people as I come across to that ad. Hopefully with enough ad promotion, I'll eventually find some other people in the south of England who want the same kind of commune. The proactive approach doesn't have to be difficult or time consuming, it just needs us to stop waiting for others to organise everything, and to start getting the ball rolling by ourselves. Well, in my opinion at least

Anyway, good luck communing, and the forum URL is http://communeforum.com if anyone else is interested in trying this approach. Rant mode disengaged ;)

Dont forget that police is very interested in that kind of developpement- I have been to many communities in europe and seen police informants in some of the bigger projects- they must think that there is alternative political activity or whatever going on.

I've come to the conclusion that there is no chance of finding or setting up a commune in this country which can be truly somewhere to reject the modern rat race.

Let's face it, you can't pick your nose in the UK without some bugger getting it on camera.

So where do I go from here?

Am I doomed to an existence I have come to so despise?

    Is there no way out?

there is plenty of unregistered land in the uk which we could set up on. let alone abroad. i plan to build insulated log cabins for accommodation and using new forms of electrical power generation to prove relative comfort, technology and modernness. it is still in the early stages and anyone with building, electrical, agricultural or holistic medical exspirence will be extremely useful but anyone who realises that money is worthless and that people were not intended to work 40 hours of there week doing repetitive mundane activities in exchange for this worthless fiction is completely welcome. we have about 10 of us who are committed to this idea and we are looking to expand. if anyone is interested in gettin involved please email me on littleredman@hotmail.co.uk and make the subject of ur email "commune" :D

My partner and I are also hoping to be part of a commune, We are a relaxed and easy going couple 26 and 40. We are looking for a place to live in London as soon as possible. I am an artist and my partner is a Writer; We are both very interested in organic food and off grid living. We are looking to be part of a commune or co-op and would settle for space in a warehouse or outbuilding we may even consider a squat/occupation.

    Love Lindsay x :)

You start with how much land you can afford to purchase between you all (near the sea) as this give you another food sauce and what type of accommodation used, my pref is a gher with a large communal long house (L I L) low impact living, but this would still encompass things like the internet for teaching and knowledge sharing,as iv found things on there that would allow with helping with off the grid living ,things like the vertical generator for power, rocket stove , old oil drum heating system solar water heater from the (RUBBISH) that others leave behind in there consumer lifestyle, oh and don't forget how to make paper brickettes or dung as this burns just the same the advantage of the dung brick is the juice can be saved and used as natural fertilizer so the life cycle can go round again so there my thoughts on the matter

Is it actually possible to buy land in the UK and live on it in a self sufficeint way without the council charging you tax?
