she never made that statement. she said she told him to wash the dishes, he said he would, and then continued to watch tv. for all we know he was waiting for the next commercial, but by then she was already doing the dishes herself.

I'd say the same thing. 'I'll get on it' means I'll get on it. Maybe not right away, but within an hour or two. Not to be contentious here, but if you want them done right now, you can do them yourself. Otherwise, being my dishes, and it being my home too, I'll get to them when I get to them. Common courtesy would dictate that I do so fairly soon if I know it's bothering someone, not not necessarily right away.
