Damn, there are that many judges? I'm glad I live in my cave, where all those TV signals can't reach..
...Judge Carlos, Judge Ivan, Judge Brutus, Judge Calvin, Judge Matt, Judge Reggie, Judge Donna, Judge Bosley...
i didnt say i watch 10-16 hours a day. i said, in my house, the tv is on 10-16 hours a day. im usualy just listening to it, while doing something else, rather than watching. but i do watch my share of tv...
...Judge Chalibip, Judge Proxidus, Judge Camicolducus, Judge Steve, Judge Carp, Judge Prestin, Judge Peroxide, Judge Brad...
Yes, I agree. In fact, I think TV is dangerous. It's not the technology, it's the people who control it.
is anyone in this thread even the least bit openminded?.... seem like theres a bunch of people in here who are "programed"
The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason. - Hunter Thompson That being said I enjoy some TV. Mostly Comedy like That 70's Show, Family Guy, South Park, etc. I think it's funny. The only other thing I watch is the History Channel, Discovery or sports. I love me some modern marvels lol.
Some smart comedy I enjoy, as well as some lowbrow stuff. I find though there are some really good dramas on now that really suck me in.
Yea if I turn on the tube when I'm stoned, I can watch 'Without a Trace' or any of those FBI shows for hours........
And........it's different than listening to music all day, by how? The music business is somehow more decent and less money grubbing than TV? If that is the case, then throw away your IPODs, your stereos, your radios, your CDs ect. Oh, and the internet, as well. Hunter Thompson, for sure. As a role model he's SO much better than watching TV. :eyeroll: C'mon. It's SO pretentious and SO tired to "hate" TV. Really. If you don't like it, TURN THE FUCKING THING OFF. No one is forcing you. Has anyone tied you down and made you watch "Judge Judy" or "Steve Irwin" I would guess no. "Oh, I only watch IFC, and PBS, and Animal Planet.....and......." How far can one stretch "educational?" Ya know what? I HATE radio. I mean, I hate it. Can't hear more than 2 songs without 30 minutes of commercials. So, until I can afford XM radio, or get a CD player installed in my old van (neither likely) I sit in silence.
Who said anything about HST being a role modle, I just like his writing. And I have to strongly disagree with your compairison of listening to music all day and watching TV. Music requires you to use your imagination, TV does not. TV presents you with a very cut and dried version of a story. Where as music can take me to a different place every time I listen to or play the same piece. The music industry is corrupt to be sure, but the music itself is art (or at least it use to be). TV is NOT art. I do agree, however, that TV is like the internet since both are just mental masturbation. But who dosn't like a little masturbation now and then. I don't think TV itself is bad, it's all about what you watch. If you fill your time with nothing but fluff, you get a head full of fluff (and a wasted life as well, in my opinion). There IS good TV, but the vast majority is crap. If you don't belive me try watching Mtv for a couple hours. If you can do that and not be in a drooling stuper afterwards count yourself one of the lucky few. ... sounds to me like someone got up on the wrong side of bed today.
^ agreed And about comparing TV and music. Both industries are money whores yes, but mostly in the mainstream. You can listen to underground music not making a dime, but I for one can't turn on the TV and find some underground TV show. That is besides FSTV, and most of that stuff bores me head to sleep
I think TV can be educational, but i think the majority of whats on it today is actually really fucking up peoples heads. Use to be i didn't think so, the whole tv brainwashing shit. But i mean shit, look at all these people with their faces stuck in the news with their eyes full of thrills. And jeff foxworthy or however the fuck you say his name is a good example. Everytime i watch that fucker i get a headach! Though it seems nomatter how hard i try i end up watching it pretty much everyday, and play violent video games.
comparing television to enjoying music is the stupidest thing i've ever heard. don't say music if you mean 'commercial radio'. music is art, radio is junk. reasons why radio sucks: idiot announcers, no choice of music, advertising. reasons why tv sucks: (see above). same shit, different piles. the internet is in a realm of its own. airwaves and radiowaves have been stolen from us by commercial interests. the internet is a place where you can find IDEAS! if you seek masturbation on the net, you will find it. if you seek knowledge, you will learn. you can even use ad-blocking software to purify your experience. advertising is one reason why i don't watch television. there are a few islands of quality amid the vast sea of brain-rot, but i can't allow myself to be assaulted by voice and images telling me what i must do in order to be happy. the solution is to download good quality programs, and watch them whenever it suits. bypass the medium. it comes down to the old saying 'you are what you eat'. if you 'eat' a lot of tv, you will become more like the characters you see in it. we are all reflections of our environment. those who disagree don't fully comprehend the influence of culture on human behaviour. i don't worry that tv tells people what to think, i worry that people watching tv are encouraged not to think at all. another complaint is that television (particularly with drama) allows inactive people the chance to experience the lives of the characters on screen, rather than enjoying their own existence. it's addictive. i've seen this happen, very depressing. ultimately i think of time spent watching tv as time that could be spent doing something constructive with your life. before i had any big ambitions i used to watch it for hours, but now that i have a purpose, i don't have any time for it. if i do watch some, i can feel the minutes of my life slipping away one at a time, utterly wasted..................
