I agree with a lot of what woo says, but I think it's wrong to try and turn everyone's personalities into bots. For one thing, it can't be practically implemented, and for another, people aren't just tiny urchins you try to crush under your feet.

There were atheists around for many centuries before there were Soviets. I wasn't aware the Soviets were into identifying different types of atheism. I thought they were mainly into their own type: dialectical materialism.

 

The Soviet Union taught that a black dog is white if the KGB says its is. One in twenty Soviets was working for the KGB in some way. Most Americans don't realize it, but perhaps half of all the jobs out there owe their existence to the US government. They complain about socialism, then insist the government should spent the largest budget in the world on weapons and a military equal to the next six to sixteen combined. That's a lot of McDonalds.

Anyway, militant was not used to describe atheists until modern times, for good reason. The idiots had the sense to keep their mouths shut more often, but modern technology raised their pride to the point where they were truly inspired to stove their feet in their mouths. What Asimov never knew, was that we now have empirical evidence that the republican party organizes like a flock of chickens, and so do academics, making his fictional "Psychohistory" possible. Within a few years at most, academic slapstick will become at least as predictable as the weather and the changing seasons. I'm talking seriously expensive slapstick.

Academics can bitch all they want, but when people see how much money they waste and how much damage they do, they will crawl under their desks in shame. One in five of their students insists the sun revolves around the earth, because they could not be more incompetent at their jobs. Never thought about it until now, but you should also be able to prove that militant atheist academics are the most incompetent, reproduce the least often, and live the shortest most miserable lives. Great people to give advice on life, the universe, and everything.

Galileo is a good example though, he never was convicted of heresy by the way, but suspicion of heresy. Dude also thought different parts of earth spin at different speeds and the resulting inertia is what causes ocean tides. But at the time most scientists believed Brahe over Galileo because Galileo version didnt explain why the stars were so big or mercurys thus venus's orbit. Earth around the Sun was an incomplete theory at the time because it didnt explain everything. Wasnt just the bible thumpers that disagreed with him

The idea that some one went to university, got a degree, writes a paper therefore everything in that paper has to be correct, is an idea that seems to be common on this site. Just starts to sound like a religion again
