    You poisoned my sweet water
You cut down my green trees
The food you fed my children
Was the cause of their disease

My world is slowly falling down
And the airs not good to breathe
And those of us who care enough
    We have to do something

Oh what you gonna do about me
Oh what you gonna do about me

Your newspapers they just put you on
They never tell you the whole story
They just put your young ideas down
I was wondering could this be the end
    Of your pride and glory

Oh what you gonna do about me
Oh what you gonna do about me

    I work in your factory
    I study in your schools
    I fill your penitentiaries
    And your military too

And I feel the future trembling
As the word is passed around
"If you stand up for what you do believe
Be prepared to be shot down."

Oh what you gonna do about me
Oh what you gonna do about me

And I feel like a stranger
In the land where I was born
And I live like an outlaw
And I'm always on the run

    And I'm always getting busted
And I got to take a stand
    I believe the revolution
must be mighty close at hand

Oh what you gonna do about me
Oh what you gonna do about me

    I smoke marijuana
But I can't get behind your wars
And most of what I do believe
Is against most of your laws

    I'm a fugitive from injustice
But I'm going to be free
    Cause your rules and regulations
They don't do the thing for me

Oh what you gonna do about me
Oh what you gonna do about me

And I feel like a stranger
In the land where I was born
And I live just like an outlaw
And I'm always on the run

And though you may be stronger now
    My time will come around
You keep adding to my numbers
As you shoot my people down

Oh what you gonna do about me
Oh what you gonna do about me

    I won't go
    What about me now
I ain't looking for no trouble

You left out most of the San Francisco Bay bands and those are far more important = like Jefferson Airplanes . Quicksilver Messanger Service, and a few more

I haven't read through all the replies but I just asked my husband who's 54 and we agreed on Crosby Stills and Nash's version of Woodstock & Hendrix's Are You Experienced.

Bob Dylan was a popular hippie favourite singer in those days. We thought he knew all saw all and was all. But we were all in a big cloud of smoke anyway. To this day I still like him. He was so against the "norm" back then. Bobby you are still my hero!

    Montana
    by Frank Zappa

I might be movin' to Montana soon
Just to raise me up a crop of
    Dental Floss
    Raisin' it up
    Waxen it down
    In a little white box
    That I can sell uptown
    By myself I wouldn't
    Have no boss,
But I'd be raisin' my lonely
    Dental Floss
    Raisin' my lonely
    Dental Floss
Well I just might grow me some bees
But I'd leave the sweet stuff
To somebody else . . . but then, on the other hand Iwould
    Keep the wax
    N' melt it down
    Pluck some Floss
    N' swish it aroun'
    I'd have me a crop
An' it'd be on top (that's why I'm movin' to Montana)
    Movin' to Montana soon
Gonna be a Dental Floss tycoon (yes I am)
    Movin' to Montana soon
    Gonna be a mennil-toss flykune
    I'm pluckin' the ol'
    Dennil Floss
    That's growin' on the prairie
    Pluckin' the floss!
I plucked all day an' all nite an' all
    Afternoon . . .
I'm ridin' a small tiny hoss
    (His name is MIGHTY LITTLE)
    He's a good hoss
    Even though
He's a bit dinky to strap a big saddle or
    Blanket on anyway
He's a bit dinky to strap a big saddle or
    Blanket on anyway
    Any way
    I'm pluckin' the ol'
    Dennil Floss
Even if you think it is a little silly, folks
I don't care if you think it's silly, folks
I don't care if you think it's silly, folks
I'm gonna find me a horse
    Just about this big,
An' ride him all along the border line
    With a
    Pair of heavy-duty
    Zircon-encrusted tweezers in my hand
    Every other wrangler would say
    I was mighty grand
    By myself I wouldn't
    Have no boss,
But I'd be raisin' my lonely
    Dental Floss
    Raisin' my lonely
    Dental Floss
    Raisin' my lonely
    Dental Floss
    Well I might
    Ride along the border
    With my tweezers gleamin'
    In the moon-lighty night
    And then I'd
    Get a cuppa cawfee
    N' give my foot a push . . .
Just me 'n the pygmy pony
    Over the Dennil Floss Bush
    N' then I might just
    Jump back on
    An' ride
    Like a cowboy
    Into the dawn to Montana
    Movin' to Montana soon
    (Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
    Movin' to Montana soon
    (Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)

    Camarillo Brillo

    She had that Camarillo brillo
    Flamin' out along her head,
    I mean her Mendocino bean-o
By where some bugs had made it red
She ruled the Toads of the Short Forest
    And every newt in Idaho
And every cricket who had chorused
    By the bush in Buffalo
She said she was a Magic Mama
And she could throw a mean Tarot
And carried on without a comma
That she was someone I should know

She had a snake for a pet
    And an amulet
And she was breeding a dwarf
    But she wasn't done yet
    She had gray-green skin
    A doll with a pin
I told her she was awright
    But I couldn't come in
    (I couldn't come in right then . . . )

And so she wandered through the door-way
Just like a shadow from the tomb
She said her stereo was four-way
An' I'd just love it in her room
Well, I was born to have adventure
So I just followed up the steps
Right past her fuming incense stencher
To where she hung her castanets
She stripped away her rancid poncho
An' laid out naked by the door
We did it till we were un-concho
An' it was useless any more

She had a snake for a pet
    And an amulet
And she was breeding a dwarf
    But she wasn't done yet
    She had gray-green skin
    A doll with a pin
I told her she was awright
    But I couldn't come in
(actually, I was very busy then)

And so she wandered through the door-way
Just like a shadow from the tomb
She said her stereo was four-way
An' I'd just love it in her room
Well, I was born to have adventure
So I just followed up the steps
Right past her fuming incense stencher
To where she hung her castanets
She said she was a Magic Mama
And she could throw a mean Tarot
And carried on without a comma
That she was someone I should know
    (Is that a real poncho . . . I mean
Is that a Mexican poncho or is that a Sears poncho?
    Hmmm . . . no foolin' . . . )

-----Ibelieve that was their Ist album-and the best because there was no David Clayton Thomas to mess it up-kinda like when Quicksilver went with Dino Valenti-bad choice-lousy singer-

    Hey Guys,
Yep--The Electric Flag/BS&T are great..Bloomfield and Kooper--man--those guitars were beautiful--and Yamaha keyboards..and vocals-I just copied the album last month (Child is Father...)--my friend is sending me his 60s/70s collection to copy (last 3 months)-I chose that one for sure. The Velvet Underground-them too-Lou Reed and Nico...cool...Velvet Underground Photos

Anyway..along with Zappa we were listening to the "Fugs" remember them?
Yeah--we were that crazy in Phoenix--uh-huh-I mean Alice Cooper was our "hometown" band....and the guys who became the Tubes..the Red, White and Blues Band...our high school "freak" band...

When patterns are broken, new worlds can emerge'
-- Tuli Kupferberg, as quoted in _Reader's Digest_ (4/87)

I don't know what was more of a sign that the 60s were over... Lawrence
Welk owning the Country Joe and the Fish catalog (Welk Music Group bought Vanguard) or one of the Fugs being quoted in _Reader's Digest_...

    "Dirty Old Man"
    (E. Sanders - L. Goldbart)
Hangin' out by the schoolyard gate
Lookin' up every dress I can
Suckin' wind through my upper plate
I'm a dirty old man (dirty old man, dirty old man)

(you f*ckin' dirty old man disgusting!)

    Verse 2:
Handin' out joints to the kids at school
Givin' out pictures and porn and pills
Fillin' the front of my shirt with drool
I'm a dirty old man (dirty old man, dirty old man)
    (ya prevert!)

    Verse 3:

Nervously wiggling my toes in my boots
    Communist literature in my hands
Pinchin' all the bosoms I can
    I'm a dirty old man
(dirty old man, dirty old man)
    (you!)

[cackle] Hello, kiddies, here I am again on the ol' schoolyard! I
got *thrill pills* for all the little chickies, and I got *funny
cigarettes* for all you boys [sniff], and I got *dirty pictures* for
all of you together! Well, I guess I better go, I see the campus
cop's coming... I better split now. Remember Leon Trotsky! [cackle]

    I'm a dirty old man.
