I think that For What It's Worth by Buffalo Springfield is an excelletn representation. I'm also in favor of the Beatles All You Need Is Love, but then I'm a hopeless Beatle fan. How about Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young ~ Teach Your Children, and Our House which happens to be mine and the old man's song.
One of my all time favorites is "Time" by the Chambers Bros, but then there are so many. I like "time" because I tripped out to it alot, still gives me nice flashbacks. (by the way, the Chambers Bros. could be considered black hippies with a lot of soul)
well, i must say u guys have been great! excellent choices! so far 'For What Its Worth' is the top song,...after thinking about it,.... i have to agree also! I am surprised the doors didn't make it, jimi hendrix, jefferson airplane, gr8ful dead, and bob dylan, to name a few. why?
I would have said Grateful Dead, it just didn't come to mind. They're my favorite old(er) band. [Er - Since they still tour.]
get together-the youngbloods san fransisco-scott mckenzie california dreamin-mamas and the papas truckin-grateful dead
Jefferson Airplane: "Volunteers of America." I was there. We were pissed. The 'Nam, MLK, Bobby Kennedy, Chicago, Kent State, always lookin' over your shoulder for the narcs, Stonewall, Watergate (the beginning of the end...look around, kiddies, you have more "rights" than any other country (another artificial construct) and a lot less freedom than we had 35 years ago.) Don't get the notion that, because we identified with "hippie" that we all sat around navel-gazing and peaking. No. WE WANTED CHANGE! And look where we are now. Somebody fucked up.
I would say there are quite a few hippie anthems. Two of my favorites are "For what it's worth" Buffalo Springfield and David Peel's entire "Have a Marijuana" album.
In-a-gadda-da-vida, honey, Don't you know that I love you? In-a-gadda-da-vida, baby, Don't you know that I'll always be true? Oh, won't you come with me And take my hand? Oh, won't you come with me And walk this land? Please take my hand! Ingle
Boy you said it, that song will ALWAYS turn me on! And I have to say all the posters gave the best picks! But Stephen Stills' "For What it's Worth", that has always said it for me. And as for 'forgetting Ohio' - I always liked "Find the Cost of Freedom" - Stephen Stills Find the cost of freedom Buried in the ground Mother Earth will swallow you Lay your body down
Man, how could I forget? My draft number was 8. I moved around a lot. And ole' Tricky Dickie! "Dick Nixon before he dicks you." Peace, lassie.
Them were scary times! The young kids just don't know (and hopefully never will!) HaHaHaaHahahahhahahahah At least we didn't have to study him in school!! , brother!
quicksilver messenger service (Released December of 1970) You poisoned my sweet water. You cut down my green trees. The food you fed my children Was the cause of their disease. My world is slowly fallin' down And the airs not good to breathe. And those of us who care enough, We have to do something....... (Chorus) Oh.......oh What you gonna do about me? Oh.......oh What you gonna do about me? Your newspapers, They just put you on. They never tell you The whole story. They just put your Young ideas down. I was wonderin' could this be the end Of your pride and glory? (Chorus) I work in your factory. I study in your schools. I fill your penitentiaries. And your military too! And I feel the future trembling, As the word is passed around. "If you stand up for what you do believe, Be prepared to be shot down." (Chorus) And I feel like a stranger In the land where I was born And I live like an outlaw. An' I'm always on the run.......................... An I’m always getting’ busted And I got to take a stand........ I believe the revolution Must be mighty close at hand....................... (Chorus) I smoke marijuana But I can’t get behind your wars. And most of what I do believe Is against most of your laws I'm a fugitive from injustice But I'm goin' to be free. Cause your rules and regulations They don’t do the thing for me (Chorus) And I feel like a stranger In the land where I was born And I live just like an outlaw. An' I'm always on the run.......................... And though you may be stronger now My time will come around You keep adding to my numbers As you shoot my people down (Chorus) Repeat lyrics sung during final chorus I Won’t go What about me Now. I ain’t lookin’ for no trouble i didn't read the whole thread, but this song says it all....
