Is that it? One apologists opinion and one paragraph of Isiah?
You are actually believe that 1 chapter of 166 words fromIsiah proves the remaining 1,188 chapters and 774,580 words of the bible to be correct?? Of course you do ~ I forgot how easily you distort facts to suit. How silly of me!

    The Old Testament has...
    39 books
    929 chapters
    23,214 verses
    593,493 words
    The New Testament has...
    27 books

    260 chapters

    7,959 verses
    181,253 words

TABLE 1. QUMRAN VS. THE MASORETES
    ______________________________________
Of the 166 Hebrew words in Isaiah 53, only
seventeen letters in Dead Sea Scroll 1QIsb
differ from the Masoretic Text (Geisler and
    Nix, 1986, p. 382).

    10 letters = spelling differences

    4 letters = stylistic changes

3 letters = added word for “light” (vs. 11)
    ______________________________________
17 letters = no affect on biblical teaching

    • I am often asked to look at the original Bible to verify accuracy and errors. The reason is that the person asking me to do such is attempting to blame the Bible’s problems on translation errors. What original Bible? There is no original Bible. Even today there are no original writings that exist. What scholars have today are copies. Even the famed Dead Sea Scrolls are copies and they provide more variants and discrepancies to sort out. Apologists and biblical inerrantists explained away variations to errors in translation for many years. The discovery of Qumran, especially cave 4, has made this excuse impossible to defend. The number of variants discovered and identified and the discovery of the major discrepancies and evidence of adding and subtracting at will by scribes makes the claim that errors are translation issues a ridiculous claim. Thoughts on the Dead Sea Scrolls ~ Blair Scott and Atheism Awareness

    • We do not know who wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls. Nor do we know who wrote the New Testament gospels. There are no last names, no signatures, et cetera. There are inconsistencies between them. This, alone, is enough for me to caution against using any of these documents as "proof" of anything. They are unreliable in that regard and therefore, it would be unwise to base one's entire belief system on any of them. Baigent, Michael & Leigh, Richard, The Dead Sea Scrolls Deception, Summit Books, NY, NY 1991.
    • Now the completion of the scrolls' publication coincides with an admission by the Vatican that it is to revise parts of the Bible accordingly, a task likely to take five years. Experts have studied the scrolls and discovered much about the way the Bible was written, including its discrepancies, contradictions and repetitions. The first five books - Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy - were ascribed to the same writer, Moses, but they have many inconsistencies. The scrolls include several different editions of the books of Exodus and Numbers, and the Psalms. They revealed that the Bible was not a rigidly fixed text, but was edited and adjusted to make the text more relevant to its audience. By Catherine Pepinster

What is happening in this forum is simply that apologists are using every conceiveable deception and manipulation in vain attempts to plug the ever worsening holes in seriously flawed beliefs. But of course sinful men can twist the truth to suit their desires, can't they? because christian fundamentalism accepts hypocrisy!
And of course they'd like to be proven right.
    But they are wrong.
    Very wrong.
    In belief and method.

Was your last post ment to be a joke?
Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh, these are examples of scholarship? Christian Reasearch Institute Web: www.equip.org
Review of Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh book Holy Blood, Holy Grail
Conjecture, assumption, speculation, and an unbelievable gullibility characterize the authors approach,
(Michael) Baigent, (Richard) Leigh, have fallen prey to both of the errors that Riss so clearly describes; not only do they resort to illogical argumentation to support their theroies, but their starting point makes it impossible to come to a valid conclusion. Ignoring solid testimony to resort to man-made myths will always bear such unfruitful results. As the apostle Paul wrote:
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths.

I got another Joke for you. The East Gate in Jerusalem remains sealed. The only person who will be allowed to open the Gate is Jesus Christ. Do you think it remains sealed today by chance? And the Bible states not to worry, the prophecy of the East Gate will not fail. I would like to see you try and walk through it, I just might have one of those pretzels myself.

Would that perchance be a gate of the same temple and walls that was prophesied not one single stone would remain on top of another?

Sorry, the Old East Gate led to the Temple Mount, but was not part of the Temple. The Old East Gate became the foundation of the New East Gate. Over a period of time the Old Gate was buried. It was hundreds of years latter they built a New East Gate right on top of the Old East Gate. The Bible knew in advanced that the Old Gate would be buried, and that is why it stated that the Prince to come would enter through the porch of that Gate. Another words, the Prince to come would enter through the addition of the Old East Gate. It is the addition to the Old Gate that was sealed up about 400 years ago. It is still sealed today, and it will remained sealed until Jesus Christ Opens it Himself. He will pass through the Gate as he approaches the Temple Mount.

    Here is a good one.

A few reasons to show you don't have a life or don't care about others beliefs

You post "top ten ways ten signs you are a fundamentalist Christian" on a Christian board
When someone says, "they have evidence" to something you ask "have you researched it cause if you have its just a myth" but fail to prove your point
You give your particular religion a bad name
You deny any existence of a atom/god if its opposite of what you believe

I know it’s a joke I see the humor but it’s in poor taste. If some one did that in the pagan board some people would get ticked off. Anyone who watches the history channel for more then an hour will realize that people have proved the old testament to be accurate the same person can sit down and watch discovery channel to realize that 9 times out of 10 the fossil to prove evolution is scattered around a 1 mile radius and is made up of more then one species or it was only based of one piece like a tooth

Now if someone gets ticked I will fall back on the argument of "It was meant to be a joke." :-D

I suppose there's not much point my asking "do you really believe such a crock?" because you obviously do. But "not one stone upon another" to me means that it will not be rebuilt ~ even to suit christian apologists' loopy beliefs or to prop up false doctine.

However more to the point ~ that the catholic church is in process of correcting bible scripture as a result of the Dead Sea Scrolls differing from bible accounts that is of more concern, and proof positive that the Dead Sea Scrolls do not support the false contention that "the wording of the scrolls is the same as the bible we read today."

According to the Bible at the time of the end, the Jews would return to the land of Israel, and the scriptures state that they will build a third temple. Today there is a strong movement in Israel demanding that they rebuild the Temple. This is not a myth, it is a fact. Just as the sealed East Gate is a fact. Call it a crock if you will, but my faith is built on facts that do not lie.

That's right campbell ~ facts do not lie. Yet you continue to support the lie that "the wording of the scrolls is the same as the bible we read today"
The wording of the dead Sea Scrolls is not the same as we read in the bible today ~ unless of course you are reading the bible as ordained by satan!
Scorched pretzels may be on the menu.

    Home.houston.rr.com/apologia/sec5p2.htm-26k-

When comparing the two copies of Isaiah in (Hebrew) discovered in Qumran cave one with the oldest dated manuscript previously known (AD 980) They proved to be word for word identical 95% of the text. The 5% of variation consisted mostly of obvious slips of the pen and spelling variations.

The Book of Isaiah is the most important Book of the Old Testament. It is a Book of prophecy that establishes the Davidic line and fortells of the coming MASSIAH. This Book confirms, that Jesus Christ alone, is GOD. The Scrolls are many, and they are not all copies of the Bible. I have seen some of your sources that you provided, and these sources are far from credible. Actually they are more on the fringe, and their books are advertised for those who thrive on conspiratorial theories. And I would suggest they have more in common with Satan, than main line Christianity. If you like playing fancy free and lose with the facts, I'm sure you will enjoy their books.

Why can't someone belive what they want with out someone saying its stupid, a lie, and childish? To alot of people like Cambell their faith is important to them. That alone should be enough for people to say "Hey this means alot to him so I'm not gonna be a jerk about it." But what do you know...Maybe its just because its over the internet and there is some unwritten law that says "When thee are onst thou internet ye can be a A-hole."

    Cambell don't listen to MrRee

MrRee If your dead set on disproving the Christian Bible go do your own study, write a book, try to get it published...Then realize that its all been said before.

People like cambell use stupid logic to try to prove what they believe. Whats even sadder is that they really cant see how undreasonable they are. They cant even have intelligent conversations because they only see their side of the issue. You cant reason with someone like campbell because their beliefs are set in stone, no matter how mcuh evidence you present to them on the contrary.
Its ok to have beliefs, but its foolish to be so stubborn that you cant even see the other side of an issue.

Perhaps you'd like to read the original post so that you know at least an iota of what is at issue.
Quite frankly, I believe in truth enough to respect it fully. Two christian apologists will distort it. campbell34 is one.
I take exception to anyone, whatever their "belief" proclaiming lies to be the truth, or twisting the truth so much that it becomes a lie. And that is the contention of the issue at hand. campbell34 believes that a fragment of Isiah consisting of 133 words proves that "the wording of the scrolls is the same as the bible we read today"
    And that is a lie.
Anyone who supports such foolish contentions is open to criticism, debate and discussion.
    As colours says ~
So if campbell34 wants to be foolish ~ let him wear the consequences of foolishness. They are his and his alone.
And if you wish to support lies above truth, just say so and stop beating around the bush.
This is a forum for discussion which is being used in accordingly.
If you took the small amount of time necessary to know the context of the discussion, you would not have written such a foolish response.

Well what evidence are you talking about. And so you consider it to be stupid logic when I agree with the founder of the theory of Evolution. When Darwin stated that if His theory were true there should be an abundance of fossils showing trans-species. I simply agree with Darwin. And you think that millions of years of evolution could produce billions of fossils but the only fossils they could never find are those showing trans-species in the fossil record. Millions and millions of years of evolution and we can't find even one fossils that clearly shows evolution. Well if there is no evidence of evolution in the fossil record like Darwin said there should be, I don't consider my stand unreasonable. And yes my beliefs are set in stone, but the cement that holds that stone together, is facts. Your belief is held together by voodoo science.

THE DEAD SEA SCROLLS MAKING THE GOOD BOOK EVEN BETTER?
excerpt from article by Jeremy Lott

Liberal Old Testament scholars, argue that the original Hebrew Bible, transmitted and replicated throughout thousands of years of religious and political turmoil, emerged heavily corrupted.
In 1947 discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in a cave near the Judaean desert offered evangelical biblical scholars a potential escape from their scholarly theological bind. Because the scrolls dated back to the time of the New Testament, making them a thousand years older than any other extant Old Testament manuscript, they allowed conservative theologians to determine if the Bible had remained intact.

The result has been a literal godsend for evangelicals. Peter Flint feels that the scrolls establish that today's Bible bears few of the traces of corruption and doctoring that liberal scholars have imagined.

The Verdict is that Jewish scribes were very careful transmitters of the written text and tended not to tamper arbitrarily with the wording. Amazingly, in the face of religious and political turmoil over a thousand-year period, THE TEXT REMAINED VIRTUALLY THE SAME.

LIBERAL BIBLICAL SCHOLARS NOW CONCEDE THAT THE SCROLLS HAVE UPENDED SOME OF THEIR MOST FUNDAMENTAL ASSUMPTIONS. Forty years ago, they would never have considered John a Palestinian Jewish document. But today, as Marcus Borg, a professor of religious studies at Oregon State University, notes, "we take it for granted that John's Gospel was written in the Jewish homeland, not in Hellenistic culture somewhere outside Israel, and that many of the symbols of John's Gospel-the light/darkness contrast and so forth, employ language that is in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Most of us accept that John's Gospel reflects a Palestinian Jewish environment."

    1. UPENDED ~ turned uside-down; reversed, changed, altered, opposite of original.
    2. ASSUMPTION ~ to take for granted without proof
    3. 133 words showing 17 alternate words from a fragment of the book of Isiah prove nothing.
Cutting through all the above Jeremy Lott fundamentalist apologetic rhetoric, we're left with the statement ~
So from a "feeling" this guy comes to a verdict.
I hope like hell this guy is never a juror ~ where truth and fact is paramount.
Simply because you want to believe it, doesn't mean it's true. And as many christians agree that the bible is corrupted as there are who don't.
Just more of the same old stale pretzels, campbell34
