Hey, it doesn't all have to be "heavy" metal. Hendrix, Zepplin, Sabbath, should all be classified. Nu-Metal however should not be considered "metal". It is to metal as Emo is to Punk rock. Nu-metal is an awful name for this "genre", it seems almost corporate. None of this stuff is relevant, as far as I'm concerened. Most Nu-Metal fans just haven't been exposed to good music yet. Most people don't get exposed to good music. Stoner/ Doom metal is where it's at these days, unless you dig "bad asses", mulling over bad past relationships and pining over it. Lately, I've been all over Unsane (still), Bolt Throw, and Godflesh, has some ripping tunes. Korn, Deftones, Slipknot, Mudvayne is not good music. These guys are fucking clueless. Do not waste time or money on this. I agree also, so many outside the metal genre rock way harder than this new pathetic, corporate, neadrethal movement effort. Blues, Jazz, Rock, Johny Cash, hip hop. These "nu-metalers", don't even scratch the surface. But, I don't blame you kids, you just don't know any better. Get with it though.
Mine would be: Slayer Iced Earth Sonata Arctica Kreator Dimmu Borgir Check that out for diversity in taste!!
umm so you consider zeppelin and hendrix as heavy metal, but not slipknot or korn?? ok. that makes alot of sense.
Skyclad Bishop of Hexen Bal-Sagoth Sonata Arctica Nightwish Sad nobody's mentioned any of these metal greats
Fifth place - Dark Fortress (German black metal) Fourth place - Iced Earth (American heavy metal) Third place - Burzum (Norwegian raw ambient black metal) Split first place - My Dying Bride (British gothic death/doom metal) Satyricon (Norwegian black metal) Difficult to cut it down to a top-5 though.
You can't even spell Bolt Thrower correctly. What a fan. But, you are right about nu-'metal'. It is an epidemic and must be dealt with accordingly.
Hey Bart, Satyricon and Keep of Kalessin coming to the Netherlands in september. Are you going to a show as well?
Get your ass (and optionally also the rest of you) to the Netherlands and we're going to have a Nekrosatanik Chainsawdesekration ov the Pagan Winterforests. And with that, I mean a wedding!
Cool. I really can't wait!! Nor for the new MDB album! ARRRRGH, this is all a viscious and disturbingly effective onslaught on my nerves and sanity.
As far as REAL metal goes ( excluding bands like Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Scorpions ext. ) I'd have to say the best Metal band in terms of sound would have to be Metallica. My favourite Metal band is Sinner, but Metallica has just had much more influence in metal and all. Black Sabbath started Metal...but by today's standards they're hard rock. So here's my list: 1. Metallica 2. Iron Maiden 3. Slayer 4. Judas Priest 5. Nirvana Before you judge my list, I find it VERY hard to distinguish between Metal and Hard Rock.
Nirvana is fucking metal! That dude killed himself! Just like Dead, Grim of Immortal, Cernunnos of Enthroned, Philip of Ancient Rites, Jon Nodtveidt of Dissection...
This is a tough question so I'll list current cd listens: Pig Destroyer The dillinger escape plan Meshuggah Mastodon At the Gates
Nirvana is a really good band but they aren't metal. They are grunge rock. Led Zeppelin and Hendrix aren't metal, but like other people said, they influenced alot of metal. Black Sabbath however was the very begininning of metal. So by today's standards or not, they are metal.
