You dont know metal at all. Of all the bands you named off alot of them are metal. Here's a list of ones you said weren't metal, but really are. Slipknot System of a Down Guns n Roses Motley Crue Disturbed Coal Chamber Mudvayne Deftones Godsmack Mushroomhead Soulfly Korn rob zombie tool ratm marilyn manson Skid Row You're gay.
I hate Godsmack. All their songs sound the same. Some people wouldn't know metal if it bit them in the ass. FUCKIN' NIGHT RANGER!!!
passittotheleft, hey little guy, want a cookie? I don't know metal at all? Bwahahahaha! I've been listening to metal since you were in diapers! As far as I can tell I listen to much heavier stuff than anyone else around here. Just because I won't pretend that hard rock bands and mallcore trendy bands are metal doesn't mean you know at all what your talking about, or think you can put me in my place. O.K., I supose if all you ever listen to what is on the radio (which is comercial shit) or on TV (which is comercial shit) and your only barely starting puberty, you may make some mistakes about what is or is not metal, just dont get on the interweb and go OMG I know everything about metal!!11!!one!!1 when your talking to someone who has been listening to metal for longer than your life. Oh, and, by the way, I'm not gay, I'm bi, but what the fuck does that have to do with anything YOU HOMOPHOBIC IGNORANT ASSHOLE.
I'm not homophobic actually. You're an asshole. Is that better? Just because you listen to heavy metal doesnt mean that half the bands you named are metal.
passittotheleft, hey dude, I wrote a really abrasive reply to you because I was upset that you were bringing my sexual orientation into the matter. If you're not homophobic please try not to go around calling people gay. What ever you mean when using that word, it can be tremendously offensive and hurtful. As far as the metal/not metal thing goes, the only point I was trying to make is that I have been part of the scene for a long time and nobody I have ever met at a metal show would consider those bands metal. Anyway, I supose it all comes down to opinion. My original post reflects my opinion. To show that I respect other peoples opinions I will not bother to debate the matter further.
slipknot ozzy system gwar marilyn manson (earlier work, not so very metal anymore) if you want to say any of the above aren't metal, that's fine with me. putting music in genres is far too complicated, in my opinion. it's all just music to me.
Interesting debate on what people consider Metal. I have to say that Led Zeppelin comes across to me as more of amplified blues than heavy metal. Same as I feel about Hendrix, a blues musician.
No, actually I would like you to tell me why in your opignon those bands are not metal? It's not the first time I hear this and I dont know why many dont consider nu/alternative/progressive metal to be real metal. I took a look at the metal-archive but it doesnt say anything as why they shouldnt be considered metal.
My top 5 metal bands would probably be, in no particular order except for Metallica on top: Metallica Black Sabbath Iron Maiden Slayer Guns 'N' Roses
As for the debate on what's metal and what's not, my opinion is that Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix were not heavy metal, but were rather, 'roots of heavy metal' artists. They had a huge influence on heavy metal but weren't heavy metal themselves. It's also well known that Pink Floyd also indirectly influenced heavy metal, but you wouldn't call Pink Floyd heavy metal would you? If you want another example, we all know that bluesmen like B.B. King and T-Bone Walker had a huge influence on '60s rock 'n' roll, and therefore they indirectly influenced almost all rock 'n' roll that we know today. But that doesn't make them rock musicians. That's my opinion. But there's no right or wrong answer, it all depends on your ideas and perceptions of different eras in music.
