quote: But you'll of course have to cough up thousands of $$$ in the process.

Whe I lived in LA, my friend swiped the Scientolgy catalogues that came to his building for a nieghbor who moved.

You are definitely not kidding about the money...there would be a set of 3 books for $11,000, 30 day cruises for your kids that are not accepting scientology for like $50,000.

I would always see the schoolkids all dressed in blue walking together silently, looking at the gound.

Maybe that was some sort of scientology meditation.

    And now we're all trapped...

    ...IN THE MATRIX!!!!!!!

(And we have to listen to Keanu Reeves drone on in that monotonal/stoner voice... "Dude, I can do this, cuz I'm The One")

Nope. Scientology was created by the scientest/theologian/obese man
    L. Ron Hubbard. He published his book in 1954 along with his writings on Dianetics. Then came publishings on how to keep a marriage together, good communication skills, etc. When Scientology soon got popular (is the fastest growing religon in the world) the first Scientology churches were built across the world. Today you can find a "Church of Scientology" in about every decently sized town across America and Europe. L. Ron Hubbard died, or "departed from his body" as they say, in 1984, aboard the Sea Org., a large group of vessels in the ocean where hard core Scientologists sign a "billion year" contract and devote their lives to studying it. Wow that was long.

It gets lots of 'abuse' i would imagine so did Christianity and all the other religeons when they first started.

I dunno, you can compare each claim and theory against a similar one made in chritianity.. It just seems anything out of the norm and derogatory towards god (mere fiction) people dimiss it.

I don't think it sounds any more plausable than what it says in the bible, no less fantastical (maybe less 'sophisticated) but scientology has not had great minds and theologians and scholars pouring over it for thousands of years (Or they may have stopped a few million years ago  ). I am sure if the pharoas were alive today, they would be getting grief for what they believe in. They would sacrifice us and offer us up as penance there sun god as punishment..but hey thats what they believe in.

Of course, but they seem to be having more fun.

It doesn't cost incremetal cash payments to religions to attain their version of enlightenment. I'd say thats what keeps scientology in the cult status.

this place was a few blocks down from a friend of mines in hollywood, used to be a swank castle/hotel...now its the scientology celebrity center. I always wondered what has gone down in there. They have their own security force, probably volunteering too

It's not. It works with incredible results and actually makes alot of sense. My only problem is that they charge thousands of $ for their services. I wish they'd try to make themselves more available to those with a smaller income.

That is the vatican, if you did not recognise it. I apologise if you did. I was just making a comparison to what 'scientology' has and in this case the catholic church has. I very much doubt the one in Houston is that 'nice' . If you were talking about seamonster66 post, then again sorry. As you did not 'quote' the individual, i am unsure.

Again i reference the Vatican, scientology does sound interesting but 'expensive' i am sure the more you spend the more you are respected within the 'group' theses comparisons never seem to end :p

They are both secretive, but one you can go to church every week for free in, the other you would start paying for classes, and eventually reach enl;ightenment after paying 300,000$.

They sell sets of books for 11,000....its very openly for profit

That celebrity center used to be one of the top hotels in LA...all of the old stars stayed there.

I wonder what was going on in 'christianity' for hundreds and hundreds of years mmmmm *ponders* .. This new group seem to have missed the humble beginings and a few pages of 'faiths history'.. but they are not far of the 'model'.
