Oak Island....we were right next door at Holden Beach over the weekend. Ocean was a bit chilly at 80 degrees..... If you're on the beach all day in the sun, you NEED a Shaboomie Shade. Pops right up, light weight, small bag, goes with the wind.

 

10kbtu....that's kid stuff. I have 12k just for the office....30k upstairs and 24k downstairs...

 

No, my husband is too cheap to put in an air conditioner even though there's one in the basement. His dad used to run it, though.

Well, it's not that you need all of it running all the time, different zones. Lately the heat's been pretty oppressive, 95 and humid, but I'll take that over a northeast winter any time... You just learn to deal with it. You don't go out and do lawn work or crawl under the car in the middle of the day. That's when you go crack a beer at the pool.

 

I know someone who has one. They're great, but come with a $250 price tag!

Its not necessarily the heat but the humidity which is the killer. As I have a number of serious lung problems I have serious issues with both heat and cold - again due to humidity or lack of.

I hate high humidity. Makes me feel as though I'm breathing soup. Last night it was over 80 degrees F, and we sat out on the porch. We were joined by our gang of raccoons, looking for their treats of dog kibble, cookies, and marshmallows, and had a new visitor; a flying squirrel! They are nocturnal, and I hadn't seen one in years.
I think Bob took a few pictures. I'll post a few later when he wakes up if any came out well.

 

Humidity......you have no idea....take 95 degrees, throw in a few thunderstorms....everything is nice and green, tho..

 

They work great, I'll never drag that umbrella out again. We have one to pass around the family. Oh, the Chinese will jump on it for $29 soon. Two college kids' business - they were making them in their apartment for a while. Beach is full of them, they flap in the wind, but won't blow away like an umbrella. People are crazy in the sun.
