    It's a blooming cactus over 20 feet tall in the garden next door :) The hummingbirds are adoring the flowers for their nectar.

    Keeping with the theme from Earth Day 2022 and Climate Change.

    Cape Cod Bay has a Sea Turtle problem.

    Sea Turtles are drawn to the warming waters of the Gulf of Maine, which stretches from Nova Scotia to Cape Cod and is heating up faster than 99 percent of the world’s oceans.

    The turtles, most of them juveniles, summer in Cape Cod Bay, feasting on jellyfish and crabs, but when the weather turns in October and November, they miss cues to head back south.

    When the temperature plummets below 55 degrees, they become “cold-stunned” — hypothermic, unable to eat or move, and drift passively until tides carry them ashore.

    'Twas a humpback with a baby calf.

    Reportedly they were uninjured, but not the people on the boat. One woman had a neck broken. Fortunately there was enough assistance in the area to help right away.

    This was bound to happen.

    There are many small boat operators ferrying folks from La Pa across the bay to the island of Espiritu Santu, a marine sanctuary and park which is uninhabited except for the wind, seals, birds, and petroglyphs left by natives many generations ago...

    They charge more than $100 US for the round trip, with snorkeling, etc. so it's strictly for the tourists.

    Locals take their own boats or go with friends :)

    It's the tour operators trying to get two complete batches out there and back in one day.

    The cow and calf were spotted later and appeared to be fine.

    By the way, there is an upturn in the number of whales recently. Great numbers of spawning babies have been identified.

    The article was posted last night not a lot of details.. I am sorry to learn that anyone was injured ...what a beautiful area to live in the whales make their way here from time to time it is so nice to see when they are here ....

    The whales are amazing!

    We have whale sharks in the bay, very famous celebrities they are! Gentle giants we go swimming with them. They are covered with stars like the heavens above... amazing. They go gloop gloop gloop with those wide open jaws straining the microorganisms for food.

    Baja is where the whales come every winter to have babies.
