Just before Hurricane Henri reached the Rhode Island coast it was downgraded to a tropical storm so it’s still 30 years and counting since the last land falling Hurricane in New England

Nothing like the Category 5 Hurricane which hit New England on September 21st 1938 bringing 160 mph winds with a maximum storm gust of 186 mph at the blue hill observatory. Peak storm surge 17 feet in Rhode Island, and peak wave height 50 feet in Gloucester Massachusetts. 700 dead, 8,000 homes destroyed, and 2 billion trees destroyed. The storm damage $300 million (by today's standard $5,508,574,468)

Rain has moved on. Except for a possible thunderstorm later.

 

When I was little, I think in 1958, we had a big hurricane here in New England. We lived in a project in the North end of Hartford, Ct, and I recall water in the parking lot halfway up the doors of the cars. It was very surreal.

 

We are just up to our neck in tornadoes

 

By chance I saw something on TV about that hurricane when I was little. I was only 2! It was in 1955.

The only hurricane I want to see is Hurricane Angelmama.
Gets me every time that time that one!

Love Spike Jones!

 

It's hot... and at 5:30 temps are still going up. I did nothing outside today. Fug that shyt

 

Spike Jones and the City Slicker is one of my favorites, from the Colgate Comedy Hour.
Went to the opthamologist on this warm, muggy, sunny day and got prescriptions for 3 eye drops to keep me, (he actually said this) from going blind.
Three surgeries scheduled, the first on October 5.

 

Me too. I am happy that the Dr told me that I would be put out during the surgery, too

 

The only Spike Jones I ever heard was Der Fuehrer's Face.

I only knew about that because a local radio talk show host would play that record when requested.
