The only good thing about working in a fast food reastoront is that I never want to eat fast food again... I used to love it, but now that I actually make it know how disgusting it really is... not to mention the smell and taste of it just reminds me of work and grease now...

    where are you working now?

i worked at mcdonalds for almost a year in grade 11 i think it was... it was gross. my parents used to drive me home with the windows open in the middle of winter because of the stench of grease. minimum wage for students (under 18) was only 6.40 too, so i barely made anything.

I work at DQ, just started a few days ago.

But it is pretty disgusting, at least I have to walk to and from work so the smell gets a little aired out lol, but I hate the grease... You can't touch anything without getting grease all over yourself.

But it's rediculous there, I'm scheduled to work 5 days straight, 7 hours a day, and you get one 5 minute break a day, is that even legal? I thought there were laws about that kind of stuff... But at least I'm making 10.25 an hour (new minimum wage here) so I'll be making a lot of money considering how much I've been working..

pretty sure you're entitled to a half hour unpaid lunch, and 2 paid 15 minute breaks, assuming your labour laws are the same as ontario. although they might get around some of it by scheduling you for 7 hours instead of 8...

one 5 minute break sure doesnt sound right

i know for an 8 hour shift they had to give 2x 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch......

That's what I thought too... When the manager said I could go on my break I asked him how long it was and he said 5 minutes, and I was quite surprised... So I just sat down like "what am I supposed to do for 5 minutes? That's not even enough time to get food.." so I was expecting there to be another longer break coming up.. But it never did.. I'm going in for my 3rd shift today in a few hours, and so far alls I've gotten was a 5min break each day lol

1-15minute break for every 4 hours of work.. 2-15min and 1-30min unpiad for 8hr employees.. you should ask me the last time i had 2-15min breaks and a 30min break working in a kitchen... oh yeah... ive never had one.. but usually breaks have been looser in definition wherever i've worked.. and if i ever work over 8hrs.. i get to go home and "let out the dog" aka.. get high as fuck and come back

Everyone else working at the time got a 5 minute break as well, one person would go take a break, come back, then the next would go, and etc until it got to me

Maybe that's where they found some sort of loophole? It says you can't work more than 5 hours in a row without a 30 minute break, i think i only worked for 4 hours.. then the manager told me to take a 5 minute break, then once that 'break' was done i worked for another 3 hours, so technically i didn't work for 5 hours straight at any time?

They pull the same stuff here, 7 hours is considered "part time" so the breaks and lunch rules don't apply...

I am greatful that i finally have a job though, and i actually don't mind working... it gives me something to do other than just sit at home all day, plus i'm finally going to have money again... And i can't even complain, it seems like a pretty chill job... Except during rush hour it's crazy because i haven't memorized most of the stuff yet, and there's only one person working in the kitchen at a time, and it's me... I have to keep all the supplies stocked up, cook and bag all the food, complete this check-list thing, do all the dishes, etc... all on my own, except for the first two days i had some guy helping me out since i'm still new... but there's so many things to do at once it's overwhelming, i'm sure i'll get the hang of it eventually though...

But still, it's not right how they take away your breaks like this, and expect you to be on your feet 7 hours straight, while making minimum wage
