sounds alot like yoir hairs very much like mine which dreaded naturaly very fast (weeks i guess, hard to remember )
but if ya are set on twist n rip and noty willing to try natural a feww weeks 1st to see how it progresses then , just twist sectiothen seperate the ensd into 2 (randomly grab 2 bunches of hair with siome criss crossing) and pull in oposite diredctions forcing the hair towardss the roots thej repeat, retwist repull

if u do decide to try natural wekllk just stop combing stop using conditioners wear a wool hat alot and seperate sections as they begin to clump up to prevent too big of dreads..really simple..
may see results beginning in weeks, or may take months..judging by your hair type id guess sooner rather then later

I've gotten that a few times...well, maybe a little more than a few. I've gotten Jim Morrison a couple times as well.

Okay. I may have just been talked into trying it natural first. I already don't use conditioners and almost constantly have a wool beanie on. The only step I'd have to take is to stop combing.

Day 1 started 3 days ago since I haven't combed my hair in 3 days. lol

    Just like silk, babeh. lol

Washing tips for the first few weeks, days or whatnot? Wash away? No washing? Only a rinse? Don't get wet? Wash in caffeine free motor oil with a pinch of cocaine and embalming fluid???

Yep, you are a cutie. Im excited to see pictures of this..

I've been really torn with the thought as well. I just don't know if it'll look right on me. But I'm one of those people that think dreads look amazing on everyone. (except probably me.. haha.)

    You'll look great with them. = )

    Aww. Thanks a bunch. :D

I hope they look good on me. I'm kind of in the same boat. I usually like the look of dreads on other people, but I'm skeptical to how they will look on me. I just said screw it. If I absolutely hate them, I can cut my hair. It always grows back.

Okay, so I started neglecting my hair and all in hopes of it starting to dread (so far only have a few ringlets of curls starting to form and separate). I did a good an thorough baking soda wash the other day to get my hair as clean as possible before letting it naturally dread. I ran across this recipe for a rinse in the forum, I'm sure all of you know of it:

    Warm Water
    3/4 cup baking soda
    8-9 drops teal tree oil
    2 tbls. Salt
    2tbls. Lemon Juice

Now, my question about it is, anybody think it would actually help to promote dreading? I know it wouldn't harm anything, but I was just wondering. Also, instead of adding salt, I live on the Ocean, so I can literally go to my backyard and get all the saltwater I need. Think boiling and using natural seawater would be more beneficial?

Swimming in the ocean is one of the bst things you can do to form dreads.

As for baking soda, I though it should only be used every few months to get rid of excessive oil and alkali build up

If you can get the real thing then that's great. IMO there is nothing better than going swimming in the ocean and letting them dry in the sun and sea air, I miss not being able to do that where I live now. I'm pretty sure if I could do that on a regular basis I wouldn't bother washing my hair, other than rinsing with water now and again. I envy you, I'd love to have the sea in my backyard:)!

I normally only use baking soda in my hair. I've been with the natural way of haircare for a while.

Well that's good to hear. During the summer I'm usually constantly on the beach or swimming. I'm very lucky to be able to wake up to the sunrise over the Atlantic each morning. I don't know if I'd really be able to live without it, I've lived on the beach my entire life.

Okay, so I'm going to start a thread about my progress if anyone's interested with pictures. If anyone's interested, it'll probably be titled something like "Joey's Dreads" or...something.
