First of all, thanks for the links, I appreciate it. Now, those are two of the most vague myspace sites I've ever seen. The one has nothing on it, not even "a" friend, and hasn't been logged into since October of 2007... The other one has a little more stuff on it including some bands that are "interested" in performing and says that as for a location, it is "awaiting a reply from Saugerties" (NY) which is 55 miles from the original site in another county. As someone who was born and raised eight miles down the road from the original site and has attended many reunions there as recent as 2006 when we were all expelled from the "private" property as guests of the owner by the moneyed interests of the Town of Bethel, I can readily say that there have always been disputes as to our being there (going back to 1969) and that the uptight, neo-con populace DOES NOT want us there...

The website of the new (some have and do dispute) owners of the original site says nothing about any kind of festival. And trust me, if they think you're coming they will attempt whole heartedly to stop you - arrest you if they must...

    http://www.bethelwoods.us/

And the website of the owner of Max's original homesite says it all (give it a read) in that the farm is up for sale. In fact Roy, whose daughter I went to school with, is in Arizona...

    http://www.yasgurroad.com/

Now, this is NOT to say give up hope, and not to dream and conceptualize its perhaps actuality. By all means, believe and get the vibe going because that is the way "it happened" the first time, and the only way it's going to happen again. The youth of this regenerating "we" generation has to, and can, give re-birth to another miracle. Namaste...

I was at '99 and I was only 9 years old, but it was AMAZING.[/QUOTE]

amazing???? How amazing was it that people set shit on fire, girls were raped, the heat on asphalt, overpriced..... it was the saddest point for my generation YET.

the fact is, you just can't recreate woodstock. it was a one time amazing, pretty spontanious event, that will never be forgotten.

plus, people back then didn't just go to look cool, they didn't just throw on a tie dye shirt, they went because they TRULY wanted peace.

and like everone is saying, the music played a huge part in it. i mean you can't recreate the vibes that Janis and Jimi gave off there. no matter what bands you get, it'll never be the same ora.

of course i want to go, but especially after what happened in '99, im not so sure. i'll definitely have to think about it.

[IMG]The mud of Woodstock still squishes between my toes! I am definetly returning in 2009. I was twenty years old when I attended the 69 Woodstock Festival in Bethel. It changed my life. A girl jumped on the back of my motorcycle on Hurd's Road leading to the site. This June 28 is our 38th wedding anniversary. I wrote all about it in a novel I published a few years ago entitled "The Closer's Song".

I agree with what many of you saying regarding the mess of the last Woodstock. It's almost guaranteed that it will be just like any other "large" festivals out there. I will probably go just to say I've been to one but that would be the only reason. I try to keep myself to ONE large festival each year with MANY smaller festivals in between.

Man, that is amazing. thanks for sharing; made me smile =]

I'm still hoping for an '09 Woodstock festival<333333
I watched the Woodstock movie last night before bed, and it completely consumed me.
Like you all are saying, the music has a LOT to do with it. I'd love to see some 60's/70's groups there, not "new age" bands that are there just for a paycheck, not peace.

There actually is an official website.

    www.Woodstock.com

    It's under construction.

The picture on there is pretty awesome, though.

There are TWO POPULAR "WOODSTOCK 1969" WEBSITES, that I used to go to, alot:

    1) "1969 Woodstock - Festival & Concert" (www.woodstock69.com)

    2) "YASGUR ROAD PRODUCTIONS" - "Yasgur's Farm"

After READING and "REVIEWING" these two WEBSITES, you come to the conclusion that the "POLITICS" in the BETHEL, NY area is orientated toward NOT PROMOTING a "WOODSTOCK 2009" ON THE "ORIGINAL SITE" (or even close by)!!! They probably just PREFER their "STATUS QUO" FARMING community of PEACE. QUITE and REST!!! They have their OWN DEFINITION of "PEACE"!!!

I can sort of see their VIEWPOINT, but a "WOODSTOCK 2009" EVENT, would ONLY LAST THREE DAYS - OF PEACE AND MUSIC -(not mentioning the MUCH LONGER "set-up" TIME BEFORE and the "DIS-MANTLING" and "clean-up" TIME AFTER), and IF there was a "WOODSTOCK" EVENT after that, it wouldn't be for another 5 years (in 2014), or for "WOODSTOCK 2014"!!!

There was a LEGAL PETITION (posted on the "1969 Woodstock Festival & Concert" WEBSITE (www.woodstock69.com)) concerning SAVING and PRESERVING the "ORIGINAL WOODSTOCK 1969 SITE", which I did "SIGN ON-LINE", but that was a few years ago!!! Months ago, I "viewed" an INTERNET NEWS STORY of how some POLITICIANS were trying to CREATE and/or PASS "LEGISLATION" to create a "ORIGINAL WOODSTOCK 1969" MUSEUM!!! But the "POLITICAL INTERESTS" in this "COOL" IDEA and PLAN just DIED OUT!!!

Anyway, I hope that the "SPIRIT" of "WOODSTOCK 1969" LIVES ON and that a "WOODSTOCK 2009" ("40TH ANNIVESARY CELEBRATION of WOODSTOCK 1969") is "ACTUALIZED" (even if it is not a "HAPPENING SCENE, MAN" on "THE ORIGINAL SITE", in BETHEL, NY (at MAX YASGUR'S old DIARY FARM)!!! NOW that would be a "SCENE" that I could "GROOVE ON", BABY!!! Enough of that 60's "LINGO", it's 2008!!!

    Peace out and "LOVE-INS", man!!!

If it has, it hasn't been anounced yet. Obviously, they're not making a big deal out of it and I really hope they're not going to; then it will get commercialized like '99.

There is only one way for Woodstock '09 to be the yipped out, mellow affair we want it to be - it has to be free. People with money, like Michael Lang did for the first Woodstock, have to be willing to shell out as much as they can. People without money have to spread the word, make the trek. Bands have to chill out and just play for the sake of playing and making music and love. I'm sure the commercial aspect of it can't be erased, but to go over the top will result in the busts of the previous years. I mean, look at Warped Tour. It went from this great punk thing to a pseudo-punk, little kids trying to be tough and listening to all the popular "punk" and "metal" bands. Is that really the future for Woodstock, too? We have to do something. The only way for Woodstock '09 is to take matters into our own hands. To make some real effort. To join together in peace.

    "What do we want?
    Peace
And when do we want it?
    Now
    What do we want?
    Freedom
And when do we want it?
    Now
    Peace now freedom now
    Peace now freedom now"

I do agree that woodstock has come and gone, but why can't this generation create something that we can look back on? Three days of peace love & music for ourselves, obviously we can never recreate what happened in 69' but we can celebrate the anniversary with the same ideals! No punk bands, but real music possibly neil young, tom petty, jackson browne, steeley dan, santana, the eagles, james taylor dispatch, kings of leon, steve miller?? Woodstock 09!
