You have a peculiar way with terminology. Christianity is a religion man, by its very definition. Heh, sweet, I'm honored Were I seriously considering following Christianity, what would be confusing is the dubious justice in this system you present. What makes God such a benevolent and caring being if he would send to Hell all the heathens who have lived good lives but haven't worshipped him? Not to mention that whole original sin bit, if you believe that too. That sounds massively unjust to me, to condemn good people to the pits of Hell all because they either don't acknowledge him or haven't even heard of him. That ain't love. When asked to explain this, many of the faithful will say what you have done - you shrug and say "I don't know, that's just God's mysterious way," which I think is a rather weak answer coming from a person who purports to know the absolute truth through his faith, no offense. If you feel so sure of your faith, why haven't you worked out this rather fundamental question regarding the 'just' nature of God? Instead, you claim that it's just one of those questions you shouldn't ask and shouldn't challenge. Wasn't the Book supposed to provide all the answers? Doesn't it preach (well, at least the New Testament part) the mercy of God and Jesus? Maybe the Lord's still yelling at you to open your eyes more. Do you know? Do I know? Who really knows... that's the thing. Anything is possible in the realm of faith. Open your mind to the world beyond your books.
Well...the way I've chosen to see it is this: Someone that posted here (forgot your sn, sorry!) brought it to my attention that my problems mainly relate to Bible and Christianity, not God. That makes alot of sense to me. I believe in God, and that is all that truely matters when you get down to it. I also believe that another poster was correct when they said that the other religions that have one god - that God is the Christian God too. They are all one and the same, so it doesn't matter what religion you are a part of. As if it mattered anyways, because all religions think they're right and everyone else is wrong...which, in my opinion, isn't very religious of them at all. I think I read somewhere that Buddha recognized Jesus Christ in his faith, or something...and that's a start. When everyone can get out of their righteous attitudes and quit trying to accuse others of being wrong about different religions, it will be easier for everyone to become more tolerant and move forward. I'm not trying to argue with anyone or say that I'm ultimately correct...because I could be wrong, who the hell knows? But I do know that my problem seemed to focus around Christianity and the Bible, and that I should look for other religious options. I do believe in God, and that Jesus Christ was the messiah - but I don't have to be Christian to believe that. Thank you all for your opinions & everything. btw...LuciferSam - thank you for your advice about not straining to find truth; I've decided to take it easy and just dub myself 'spiritual' until I find my niche. Thanks.
Just so we are all clear.... Christianity does NOT teach that 'Good Heathen' people are sent to Hell. In fact, nobody is going to Hell unless they are aware of the truth and then deliberately (with premeditation as the courts say) reject the truth they were given. Many anti-Christians LOVE to assertively lie about Christ 'Sending anyone to Hell'. It a 'Propaganda Tool' that works on tweaking your 'gut reaction'. Just wanted to clear that up Thanks
::nods:: Please just open your eyes and open your heart... Don't lecture me until you can back it up with more than just the Bible... As for Jesus going by another name...the word Issa comes to mind...but it was hidden by the Catholic church to keep their hold on the people... But you don't want to hear what I have to say and so I think I'm going to stop saying it now until you can be open minded enough to consider it before you just shoot it down. You don't know enough about me to say some of the things that you do...what makes you think that I don't pray to Jesus every night to take hold of my hand and guide me in the right direction? Just because I chant "Hare Krishna"...does that make me not good enough to love Jesus as well? Bandit28...I don't understand how you could spit fire and then call yourself a good Christian.....furthermore...who could really define that anymore? Does it matter? You said something about good and evil and free will before...good and evil exist because we have created them ourselves... To BellaItalia77, I'm glad that you have found the way that works for you. I firmly believe that it doesn't matter how you love Him as long as you do...
Oh, dear...You didn't think I actually MEANT that, did you? Its obvious that there were more dinos and cavemen...all I wanted to know was where the proof was of the Biblical stories. The Ark and the Cross were just examples. Thank you though.
That is NOT why Jesus got crucified... he got crucified for the same reason the Jews were tortured in the Spanish Inquisition... Some Guy: No one expects the Spanish Inquisition...! Me: (shoots him) Not now... *ahem* he was crucified for believing differently...
Yeah he did believe differently ... He claimed he was the Messiah .... You know those OT prophecies that Jesus some how fulfilled everyone.... thats why they killed him. They did not expect or accept their messiah to be a Jewish carpenter. Which is another prophecies in the OT: The messiah would be rejected by his own people..... What a coincidence!
