So people aren't born liking chocolate rather than vanilla? What if you feed a baby chocolate and vanilla and it prefers one over the other, or doesn't like one or the other at all? Do you think it developed this preference in the short while it was alive, and do you think that time might be so short that it's kind of a moot point to say it isn't genetic or that one isn't born that way? I think it's fascinating, because people will have a very difficult time accepting that people are born gay, because what the hell?! A man shouldn't be born effeminate, right? A woman shouldn't be born masculine. It almost seems like there's a soul, with such extraordinary things happening. It almost seems like the world is weird, rather than perfectly ordinary and straight. Well I am here to tell you that the world is that weird. Men are born girls. Girls are born men. And all shades of gray in-between. Yeah, there are probably people who are hurt and decide to switch sides, but is that really the whole cause of homosexuality? I don't think so. What I'm asking is, what is causing one to develop a preference for men over women, and shouldn't we be careful, then, to make sure we don't cause our young people to develop this preference? Because why needlessly complicate things with the existence of homosexuals? When you say you were a peer counselor at an LGBT center it concerns me. There are an awful lot of homosexuals who insist they were born that way, and for you to sit there and tell them that they weren't must have been mightily confusing and disheartening for a lot of people. Was this in Alabama by any chance? I can't believe you're trying to tell me that everyone is born straight and then some of them make the choice to become gay. Don't even bother. No, please. Don't bother.
I didn't say it was a choice either. If I prefer chocolate over vanilla, that's not a choice per se. It's "natural." It's a preference. Nor did I say that everyone turns gay because they were hurt. There are multiple reasons. For example, one of the prompts was a gay man who identifies as bisexual because he thinks it makes him look hotter. He's refreshing. He's like big whoop. It reminds me of the fun, easygoing, devil may care approach that Brazilians have to race. I don't think men are born girls or women are born boys. I think gender is a social construct.
Counselors aren't allowed to give advice, lecture, or share their opinions. Nor do I believe in mixing politics with therapy.
Oh dear God, What the hell is post modern sexual? Sounds like a complete wank And what the hell is trysexual? Every nerdy teenage guy? "I try and try and try, but no one ever let's me And pansexual is just a fancy word for " I'm so desperate I'd **** anything
No exact offense intended, but I'd find it very hard to believe any gay guy would want you as a counsellor, well anyone non gay or lesbian for that matter. It only takes a millisecond, one comment to make them roll their eyes. You were a LGBT counsellor now, I think maybe you are making that up. Can't really say it without me coming off sounding like the bad guy, but man you really put your foot in your mouth sometimes with those kind of comments. An LGBT counsellor that thinks some 'turn' becuase they were molested or whatever else you mean by hurt. Gay and Lesbians would be able to sniff that kind of attitude out in seconds
Well... if someone's natural inclination is bisexual, circumstances and experience can push them in one direction or another. But if somebody is 80% or more gay or straight, external factors are unlikely to change their behavior significantly, IMO. Example: If I had been stuck on campus in an all girls college for four years, I think I could have adjusted to it and had a good time playing along as a lez. But my sister couldn't / wouldn't have done it. She would have been stubbornly straight and miserable in that setting. For friends in the dorm, the only evidence they would have seen that I wasn't entirely gay would have been my refusal to talk trash about all men. Some people call that "prison gay". But it can also happen when somebody has so many bad experiences with one gender that you more or less give up on them and label them all in your mind as bad people.
I wasn't trying to make anyone stop being gay. People don't seem to realize this: if it's a choice, does that mean it's a bad choice? What exactly is wrong with making the choice to be gay? Why does it have to be genetic to be acceptable? Does everyone have to make the same choices?
I know plenty of people who have lived different sexual lifestyles during different periods of their lives.
I've been saying this for years; it doesn't matter if it's a choice or not. It's still a basic human right.
What it said was it was rejected by SOME. Canada no longer view it as a symptom prevalent in gays and the US call it something else. So I ask that you do your own research and tell me why it is discredited.
What? True. But gays are more free with their relations than traditional marriage. This answer is not researched thoroughly but I would say yes, those with stds shouldn't be granted the same rights. After all they can spread it to their spouse and children. Plus we practice it with other communicable serious diseases. We quarantine them. Not advocating for that but it is a point to bring out. No but it will further it by passing it down to the children. I think I already have it. No because there's more to it than that. Most of these poor people grew up without a father and morals. As long as someone out there advocates for my views it'll never be fully buried.
You should bother since this is a debate. Why can't I make the same line of argument for zoophiles and those who practice incest?
Your worldview is a better fit for the stereotype of the black church person. You can try it, and people will hate you for it.
Let me guess, In real life if you thought a gay guy was really hot, he chose to be gay. you may even support his "choice" to be gay But if you thought he was gross and never wanted him to hit on you you'd smile and nod in agreement if he affirmed to you he was born that way
