Um.. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that maybe being told that you're ugly makes you feel bad and that is where the problem is easily solved?

You sound ridiculous. I'm about to laugh.

uhh... I can't really grasp what you're saying here. Are you saying if somebody called me ugly, it would make me feel bad...

Or are you saying that when a person gets called ugly it makes them feel bad.

Either way, I still think a)caring that much about what people think of you is stupid and b)being shallow enough to care is a much bigger personality flaw than actually being ugly.

Some of the most fun people I know are hideous. We call one guy "Creature"

I'm not talking about leg and armpit hair. I'm talking about the fact that we are mammals, and are covered with fuzz all over our entire bodies, but you don't see even any arm hairs on the models in their ads. Yes, they are models. They might not be the typical bone thin boy-girl models you usually see, but they aren't representative of real women either. I wasn't talking about face paint, what about the way their entire bodies have makeup, all exposed skin has been painted the exact same color with no veins, no blemishes, no scars except the ones they want you to see. Heaven forbid they show what women really look like! If they really want to show us real women, why go to such lengths to make them look so plastic? It's a farce, a gimmick, and it's apparently a very successful ad campaign. THat's all it is, a way to trick people into purchasing their product.

Isn't your world absolutely perfect. Good for you and your people.

It certainly seems like more fun than an endless barrage of "do these pants make my ass look fat" and "my boobs are too small"

You could try talking to me like a person. I may listen to you.

You see this cannot happen unless we teach children to respect everyone like a person rather than an object for one's own enjoyment. Doing that requires different strategies that ensure that they have a happy childhood along with some discipline. The change actually starts with oneself in one's own home. And maybe with some child psychologists who can develop new strategies when it comes to childcare.

both Dove and Axe are owned by Unilever. Dove ads are currently focused on the majority of disillusioned insecure women and Axe is selling (unrealistic) sex to the majority of males who dream of a female archetype.

Seems hypocritical and screwed up, and i would expect nothing less from a giant corporation.

hahaha my thoughts exactly. Unilever also own Sunsilk and their ads don't seem to focus much on *real* beauty. The hair products themselves also suck.

IS Axe the one with the commercial where the boy puts the crap on, and his girlfreind's mom starts taking off her clothes? I look at my 18 and 20 year old girl's little boyfriends and go "Brrrrrr, they're babies, I don't care what they smell like."

That commercial just pisses me off. I didn't realize it was the same company, not really buying Dove or Axe.

God, that film made me wanna cry. :(

Those girls are so young...What's sad is, I remember when I was that young feeling and thinking the same things. It took me years until I realized that it didn't matter, and I couldn't change much about my hair or my eyes or my nose or my weight. I still have insecurities, but the one thing I've noticed is that I don't focus on them much at all anymore. I've gotten past it; I think it had to do with maturity and growing up. Maybe some women just never do in that sense.

I love the Dove campaign. It doesn't matter that it's a big corporation just trying to reap in more sales-they're spreading a message that could be the most valuable lesson we as women ever learn.

Methinks men have the same problem though - they all look perfect in the ads as well. Just cos they don't get covered in makeup... ;)
