Thin Privilege

No body fat after 3 days? That's a very thin person that shouldn't be doing anything to lose weight.

It absolutely amazes me that people will look me in the eye and explain to me why my method of weight control will never work, while I'm obviously living proof that it does.

Everybody has to figure out their own daily calorie limit. It's whatever number causes your body to level off at a weight within the established healthy limits for your height and bone structure.

Most middle aged people who cut back quite a bit on calories seem to feel very depressed and upset and isolated because they are completely out of sync with our consumer-oriented instant gratification society and culture.

It's socially unacceptable for me to refuse to eat cake and pie and cookies in the breakroom when someone brings it in. People are constantly trying to get me to consume more. Restaurant servings are often huge too. I usually bring half of it home in a box for another meal.

I was talking about the 'they' in your post to be clear. Really those people have to eat normally. 'Normally' is not an absolute diet of course so yeah they most likely still need to cut out most cookies and cake and stuff. But they generally should consume normal lunch and dinner portions.

Btw: i can relate to people trying to get you in on the tasty stuff they bring to work and such. I really couldn't care less either how angry my refusals might make them :p I barely listen to their offers (standard reaction: thanks but no thanks) and how they react to me saying no anymore.

If you look at pics of portions now and before, they've increased significantly...while people move less and less (meaning their portions are simply way too large for the amount of exercise they get).

Meh, I have a thyroid problem and was tired and often hungry. But that kind of went away...
Also, some claim there is a huge connection between thyroid and gut health.
So I don't think one should just take euthyrox or whatever every morning, like it's a magical pill.
Be selective of the food you eat.
People these days blame thyroid for everything.
I am also a huge fan of fasting....not for the modern "cleansing" thing, or merely for spiritual/religious things...I think it's so underrated.

That's why we say curvy instead of fat!

I dont think anybody calls that guy curvy lol

and yeah, looking at that pic about portion sizes I mainly agree with the soda and popcorn (who eats that much popcorn anyway.. esp on a regular basis at the movies) I would think 'diabetus waiting to happen' any way even if it would be a thin person piggin out on it.
The pasta and salad depends on what a person does on a day. The portions look normal to me indeed (but definitely not small :D)

Studies have shown that people who practice calorie restriction throughout their lives live longer lives on average than people who eat whenever they are hungry.

Am i the only one who thinks the conventional recommendation of 2000 calories is a bit much? I have a small frame and am fairly active and i dont eat that many a day

2000 calories is not much. Men generally require more calories than women do. You also have to consider your daily energy expenditure. For many people, 2,000 calories would be way too little and they would start to see a loss in lean body mass. Even for myself, I consume more than 2,000, even when I am cutting.

There is no proof of this, though many believe it to be true. Metabolism can slow over time, but for most people limiting their eating window to just 6-8 hours a day works very well for fat loss. The notion you need to eat 6 small meals a day is outdated.

The best way to lose weight is to match your caloric intake with your energy expenditure while still creating the deficit needed to lose fat. The more you move around, the more you are able to eat while still losing weight. Too large of a calorie restriction over time will coincide with a drop in hormones which can stall fat loss.

2300-2500 calories would probably be ideal for most men if you had to come up with a blanket number.

1800-2000 for most women seems reasonable.

Over here, a lot of our doughnuts no longer have a hole in the center. They fill up that space with high calorie fruit or creme filling! That's a killer doughnut.

Probably high for most women. All you need to find your own number is a scale and a sheet of paper. Writing down your daily calories and weight for several months will guide anybody to the target number that matches your metabolism, age, activity level, etc.

1600 works for me. My doctor says I don't need to lose or gain any weight. Ten years ago, I could do 1800 a day.

I have never been fat. People used to think I was anorexic, before I got lyme's disease....and read all about that and see what hell that can do to people........Now, I can fluctuate up or down 20 pounds depenidng on the time of year and my mood with no problem......right now, I am on the down losing side of the 20 i put on over the winter due to not caring ...but now, that summer is around the corner...I care again....lol

You should see the child like portions of food i do eat. It is the pepsi that can kill me in the weight department at times....and I know that....Switching to seltzer or something like that, as i love carbonated beverages...or just carbonated water helps...With the seltzer, i will add a small bit of pure cranberry concentrate to give it flavor.

Donuts are supposed to be a tasty treat. If someone's trying to maintain a healthy weight they shouldn't eat donuts on a daily basis anyway.

Donuts, even with a hole :p, are not part of any normal diet. If they are to you there you go: the first hint

My caloric intake is about 1200 calories a day, but then again I do not get hungry often. After cooking all Davy the thought of food consumption is nauseating. Most sweets sicken me. Ugh

I probably eat 1600 during the work week and 1800 on weekends when i am more active. I've never really been a calorie counter because i've never had to worry about my weight but i have started paying attention lately out of curiosity. I eat like a 500 -700 calorie meal twice a day with a couple of snacks between meals.
