hehe am i actually supposed to be convicted you are a god? ya amused me sound so confident... at least we now now that we are posers!
Maybe this guy was actually serious and didn't ment it as flaming but is just convinced hippies were a sixties thing. Which at first instance is true of course.
Not entirely, there are several definitions of what a hippie is. Most include the fact that it was a subculture in the sixties.
In my opinion the hippie subculture didn't go anywhere really. 'Hippie' is quite an unpractical description for most people on this forum in real life. I admit it comes in handy online to find a forum with likeminded people, but as you see on this forum there are a lot of different minded people as well. In my honest opinion, the term hippie is obsolete, since the subculture is gone. Most posters here are just conscious people, music-, nature- and/or peace-loving people or the occasional old hippie and youngsters who are in love with the original subculture or a combination of those things. Hippies? Might be, but certainly not necessarily.
I love that the HipForums exists. There's so many people on here that I click with on so many different levels. It's almost like having friends elsewhere. I actually prefer some of y'all over my real friends. It's kind of sad. But this is a community and I practice it religiously. I'm addicted to this place. I just wish we could meet up somewhere. I'm sure we will somewhere in the future.
I think it's not sad at all . Some people on here I dig more then some friends of mine as well, just like you. But I'm also glad to have some friends close by me of course. Although they're not seeing themself as a hippie.
I would say that it makes you a hippy. You may not look the part, but that's only a part of the whole lifestyle. If your heart is in the right place, you may very well be.
1,000 posts for you, Tom! Now you hae seniority! Anyways, I've always spelled it "Hippy". "Hippie" is a pun off of "Hippies", which is plural for "Hippy". You drop the -Y and you and an -I E S.
Hey, I thought I was the only one who considers people from hipforums to be close friends! I feel a lot less pitiful now . Anyway, I feel hippies have existed forever. There were hippies before the sixties, and there will forever be hippies on this planet. The term may have originated in the sixties, and the movement, obviously, occurred in the sixties, but there will always be people who have those same ideals. Just because they didn't experience Woodstock doesn't mean they are not hippies. It truly is a state of mind. Besides, if you look around, some of the so-called "hippies" in the sixties are now driving around in SUVs and do not give a second thought about the planet. The sixties were all just a big trend to them. Are they true hippies? I guess it depends on if one sees it as a trend or a way of living.
