Islam, Buddhism, Voodoo, Hindu, pagans all have one thing in common. Their religions all counterdict each other. If there is an ultimate truth in the universe, then counterdictions pose a problem. The Christian faith also counterdicts those as well. The Jewish faith is what the Christian faith is built on. And it is in the Old Testament where we find the three hundred prophecies that fortell of Gods severent to come. It just so happens that Christ fulfilled those 300 prophecies. The prophecies of the Old Testament state that this man to come would be put to death, and His death would be for the sins of the world. The prophecies even give the price he would be sold for, 30 pieces of silver. The prophecies are very detailed, and were written hundreds of years before Christ came. When I was 14 years old I did not know about prophecies in the Bible, yet the more I read the Old Testament the more I came to understand the prophecies. The God of the Old Testament tells us that the Jews polluted His name where ever they wandered, and at the time of the end God would allow His people to return to the land of Israel. God said He would do this not for them, but for His name sake. The ultimate faith will be found in the one that can be tested and shown to be true, and without question that will be found in the person of Jesus Christ.
That's contradictions I think you mean. And as I mentioned before Buddhism explains all the contradictions, not of other religions but of reality itself. Christianity cannot do this because it is a closed, circular logic system, which can only explain itself, NOTHING ELSE. None of it's extraphysical claims can be proven, whereas today many of Buddhisms claims about reality are finally being verified by scientists. Buddhism can also accept human evolution, death of the body, reincarnation, the eternal soul, the duality of existence (the greatest paradox & contradiction), the UNITY of all things, but perhaps most importantly the POWER OF YOUR OWN MIND, something that Christianity refuses to acknowledge except in prayer (something taken from other religions). As I said before Buddhism can explain everything Christianity can, even better, but it cannot explain the LIES in Christianity that were added to it by the church. Those cannot be explained or proven, because they just ain't true...
Buddhism does not have prophecies that fortell our future. The Bible does, and it does this in detail. No, Buddhism cannot and does not speak of such things, because the power that is behind that faith could not of known the future. Only God know's the future, and the only Book that speaks the truth about the future and the time of the end, is the Bible. If I'm not correct, could you tell me what Buddhism reveals about our future?
Yes, your body will die & decay, just like Jesus' did. Your spirit will live on, in the bardos until your karma crystalizes a new body for you to occupy. If you have become a realized being in this life or during your trip thru the bardos you don't have to come back again in human form unless you choose to. See how nicely this explains how Jesus COULD come back! You will too. So yes, Jesus was correct in saying life is eternal and we live again. But past that it's all B.S. of limited Xtian minds imposing their limited beliefs upon the teachings of Jesus in order to enslave the minds of the masses. As far as the rest of the planet goes... Buddhism tells us we create our own realities. So as soon as we transcend the Illusion that keeps us believing we are limited beings, we will become like Christ ourselves. Bet your religion doesn't tell you THAT! Why? cause they don't want a bunch of Christs walking around. No, they prefer to have leaders like that guy Haggard who fucked gay prostitutes, did meth, and then lied about it. Some role model for Xtians, eh? And he was a BIG leader of Most American Fundie Xtians, not just his own congregation of over 12,000. Yup ppl like Campbell LOVE following such hypocrites, cause they just keep the lies coming, don't they?
I am so sick of people saying that everything out of the norm is crazy! That is exactly what society wants you to think. Society wants you to except its narrow minded reality and if you don't, they medicate the crap out of you. I talk and walk with Jesus everyday and He talks and walks with me. Jesus Christ is my lord and savior no matter what society tells me. I won't worry about the shallowness and ignorance of society, because I know that this world is not my home. As far as this whole Jesus bones thing, I agree 100% with Campbell34.
You could stretch and argument which has the idea that Jesus bones 'could' exist as long as you accept a 'spiritual ascencion'. Remember, the story does have it that he Resurrects and in that sense his bones are still on Earth - up till ascension. Ok, It could be argued that the Ascension was simply Spiritual. His body lays dead where He stood and his 'Ghost' goes up to Heaven. Yeahhhh.... Id call that a huge stretch though. The eyewitnesses make no mention of a body being left behind. It would also beg so many questions about his final burial never mentioned etc. Yes indeed, I believe that is the appeal to you. That was the appeal to Adam and Eve as well btw. In fact, Jesus and later his Apostles repeatedly explain that by 'losing the self' and allowing Christ to live through us - we will become like him. The big difference is that in the case of Christianity its all Christ doing it. He perfects us to be like Him. Nothing of 'us/we/I' has the power in this. Only Christ working through us allows Him to make us Christ-like. Ted Haggard was unheard of by pretty much anyone outside his congregation or Church circles. He was never some 'role model' (which is not how it works anyways) and he was definatley not a 'BIG' leader of Evangelicals and certainly not 'Fundies' (which are rare nowadays). Haggard was considered 'suspect' as being part of a seemingly heretical 'movement' or offshoot of Christianity known as 'Latter Rain' or sometimes 'Word-Faith' and (its hard to keep track of all those). Haggard also denied being involved in that movement. Im far far less concerned about his monthly homosexual experimentation as I was about him teaching things like: -we are all 'little christs on earth' -we create our own reality through 'speaking the word of faith'. -we can take governments, institutions and wordly positions 'for Christ' and usher in the second coming after which we will be like gods. So you can see where you and Ted Haggard share a lot of beliefs which do not square with orthodox Christianity. (mind you, Haggard denied condoning that movement even though he repeatedly hosted the 'New Apostles' at his Church.... and this is BEFORE the sex scandal). Christianity doesnt have an earthly 'high priest' which we 'follow'. We only have Jesus as a role-model. Even if you look at the RCatholics and their Pope - he is not considered as being 'the highest state' of spirituality either. Heck, even the Apostles rejected the idea they should be 'followed'. I dont know what you do with Buddhism and your Dalai Lama? What happens when people find out he is a very peculiar homosexual even though he instructs that homosexual sex (or oral, masterbation, anal) is sexual misconduct according to Buddhism? But even if he is engaging in that activity himself - that doesnt 'cancel out' whether or not he is teaching Buddhism correctly itself does it? ======= Back to the 'Jesus Tomb'. Thanks to a backlogged Cable provider I didnt get a chance to see the Documentary. One thing Skip and I do agree on is giving it a fair chance to present itself before jumping to conclusions. So far (unless someone has a link?) I am reading the transcripts online. Where I get a huge 'warning sound' is whenever I see Statistics being used. As the saying goes "there are lies, damn lies and then statistics". But, Mathematical Probability can be very useful (as Campbell enjoys) but some experts are saying the Filmmakers pretty much screwed that up. Its what you 'dont include'. Guilty by 'omission' so to speak. This guy suggests that by simply including all the factors you actually get probability well over to the other side. One-in-a-Million that this is Jesus' tomb (by just probability). http://news.yahoo.com/s/realclearpolitics/20070305/cm_rcp/examining_the_jesus_tomb_evide And sorry Skip but I dont see your theory getting much help with this either. Here we are asked to believe that this Jesus who was living in public (certainly buried publically) was a great Buddhist teacher and yet is buried in a rather plain coffin with no ornamentation, nothing really but his named just scribbled across it. I dunno... some are saying that there is just a scratch mark on there (it does kinda look like it). But still that doesnt jive with your theory very well. Its still interesting but it sure seems to become less and less and less interesting the more the facts come out. In fairness Im looking for Simcha and Camerons rebuttals to the criticisms too.
The crusades and the KKK are to Christianity as terrorists are to Islam (Sunni). The intolerance that you speak of is not entirely a Christian thing, but more of a human wrong. Don't be fooled by people who hide their ignorance behind my savior, because that's not what Jesus came to accomplish here on earth.
Not a good comparison. KKK is antichristian and the Crusades are not something found anywhere in Christian teachings but were a response to Jihadism which IS a part of Islamic teachings. Never mind that either the Crusades or the KKK are relatively tiny little abberations. Jihadism was an ongoing and world changing event over centuries and changed the face of the planet. Of course I agree with you that in 2,000 years of human civilisation with what would add up to Billions (with a B) billions of people at least 'Nominally' Christians and you would be able to find horrific behavior somewhere. Maybe even 90 Christians in Spain getting 'Inquired' to death by some other Christians. Unfortunately, at that same time you could find a group of Buddhists over in the East killing and torturing another group of Buddhists too. On any given year, all sorts of people were being executed by all sorts of other people for all sorts of reasons. Sadly thats human beings for you. Just think of what they would do if they DIDNT spend Sundays hearing about Peace, Love, Compassion and Jesus teachings on this. You would probably see millions and millions of people executed per year. Oh right.
You're kidding, right? Are you insane or incredibly stupid? 1. Click here: http://www.kkk.com 2. Read the first three sentences. 3. Apologize for talking out of your ass. 4. Stop involving yourself in conversations if you don't know what you're talking about. Why does it matter what the purposes behind the crusades, the inquisitions, or the war in Iraq were/are? Lives were lost and lives continue to be lost. In the end it's just killing, whether it was doctrine or not. It was done in the name of Jesus and it's the furthest thing from Christian Doctrine. If I find you, dismember you, bake your kidneys into a pie and serve it at the Feast of Passover, it was done in the name of the tribes of Judea and it wouldn't mean a hangnail in hell that I'm a long-haired heathen who worships at the feet of the Goddess Rhiannon. "OK, he raped 52 little boys, wears a clerical collar, black robes, leads a congregation, graduated from divinity school, has been ordained a deacon, a priest, and a bishop and we covered it up, but it's not Catholic Doctrine so we can't be held responsible." I just realized why George W. Bush claims he has such strong Christian values. He has the the uncanny ability to distance himself from things going awry even when he was the cause. I'm seeing a pattern here... No one is asking for an apology for the BILLIONS of people that Christians have sent to hell (hey, they didn't believe in Heaven, where do you think they went?). Just stop making lame excuses and stop passing the buck.
Buddhism tells us we create our own realities. Which one of you created World War II. Thats one reality we could of done without. The fact is, in Buddhism you would have to create your own reality, because there is no God in your faith that could create a reality that one could follow. What you should be telling your people, is that in Buddism you are creating your own fantasies, and those fantasies will not lead you up the path to heaven, but will lead you down the path of untruth, and deceptions. Your religion is filled with fantasies. The prophecies of the Bible can be seen both in fulfilled history and in daily newspapers. For these prophecies are being fulfilled before our eyes. And as far as Christan Leaders go, God already told us that we are to look to God for our faith. The only leader I follow, is Jesus Christ.
The KKK is a perfect example of people who worship Christ with their lips, yet their hearts are far from Him.
Uhmmm ... They do teach you that ... only the fantasy you speak of is called Delusion in Buddhism. And it's not that your religion is full of fantasy, Campbell34, but your life is full of delusion, Campbell34. Matter-of-fact, your life is a delusion, Campbell34. HTML: HTML: HTML:
Christ is not a Delusion and neither is my faith. Jesus Christ has told us the truth from the beginning. And the Bible tells us that men will not endure sound doctrine, but will be turned away from the truth. Unless you know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour Darrel, neither your orange robes, or your Delusion will get you into the Kingdom of God.
Of course he is, Campbell34. Your entire life is a delusion. Your thoughts, your desires, your house, your car, your job, your dreams, your waking self, your body, your mind, that secret little five-finger thing you do to yourself in the dark ... all delusions. Im a delusion ... Skip is a delusion ... Everyone reading this is a delusion ... or the production of delusions. Theres not one being on the face of this planet, or in the entire universe that is not controlled by Greed, Ill-Will and Delusion ... not one ... not even Jesus (was). Bodhisattvas use Greed, Ill-Will and Delusion to stay in Samsara rather than to attain Nibbana which is freedom from Greed, Ill-Will and Delusion. They stay here for the benefit of all beings, just like Jesus did, does. Your entire life from the moment you were born, Campbell34, to now is all a life lived in and full of Greed ... full of Ill-Will ... full of Delusion ... HTML: HTML: HTML:
Oh yeah ... I forgot ... Luke 17: 20: And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. Too bad, though. You keep looking outside yourself for it. HTML: HTML: HTML:
Heaven is not gained or denied by debt and reward but in the balance of enlightenment and ignorance, and at the rate your going, you'll be among the last stragglers to enter.
You know we are in trouble when the thread degenerates into two Buddhists seething in hatred towards the one Christian whipping boy and it really goes to hell when Zoomie has to show up in it. The only way this could get any worse would be if RazorOccam decides this is a great place to drop his 'Prove Thor doesnt exist' crapshoot in here. If I can try and move at all back on topic (kinda) I would have tell you that Christianity is about to go big on planet Earth. Its happening as we speak and it has to remind you of the very beginnings of Christianity when it was a real 'happening', a movement, a 'phenom' that swept the planet. And its happening in China. This is going to be the most exciting thing I will see in my lifetime I believe and as a Westerner Im the very first to (joyfully) say that we have become lazy, lifeless, saturated to some extent over here. But not in China. There Christianity is sparking and crackling in a pure 'alive' form the way it was meant to be. At the rate this is going, China will be the most 'Christian Nation' on the planet and just keep your eyes open for Indonesia. Indonesia is officially the biggest Muslim population on the planet (160 million?) but that is where you will see Islam meeting Christianity. Its going to change the face of this planet in our lifetimes. I would comment on the decline of 'College Buddhism' but I think there is already enough problems in here with white western buddhist people trying to make a 'versus' Christianity. Of course that is exactly the appeal to this particular crowd and half the reason they purchased buddhism for themselves in the first place. But, Lets try and keep this to Christianity and let that stand or fall on its own here.
