There seems to only be a shortage of jobs for stupid people.

around here it varies but can cost 9 grand a year for schooling

    plus your loan interest

and then accommodation and living costs.

    you are not an asshole

but i believe you must have been brought up with a silver spoon in the mouth.

plus you clearly forget the differences in job opportunities between countries

    and differing skill sets

the need for recruitment in all different trades

    and frankly - personal satisfaction

grievance toward your job will propagate unsatisfactory results.

So the rest of us are compared to down sydrome folks ,eh? Nice. In my opinion, you appear to be a pompous motherfucker. Apparently you somehow think that by replacing people with machines ,everything will soon thereafter be hunky-dory. What do you think happens to people that get replaced by machines in capitalist societies? If you don't know, you need a little more living under your belt. Who will control these machines that replace people? Me? You? The common worker for his/her own benefit? I think not. (well,I hope not you-a person that would tell his children they were stupid and lazy). The usual suspects will control the machines just as they control society today. You will be a cog in their machines of de-humanization and will follow their orders to do whatever is necessary to eliminate more and more positions that humans do -just because it will be "necessary". I'm not a luddite by any means, but neither do I believe that machines owned and run by the likes of you for those you will serve, can help humanity stem the rising population problem, the degradation of the earth or contribute to the well being of any segment of any society except for you, those like you, and those whom you serve. You pissed me off.

Anyone else impressed with this genius and his command of syntax, spelling and grammar?

Fear not! - All is well as he can count and press buttons.

So;who builds the machines that build the machines that build the......or is it turtles all the way down?

he is the epiphany of why the world needs needs not just intelligent people

but those 'lazy' creative types that need loosen the lid of the productivity jar

There's all kinds of intelligences, computer science and math is just one type. I'm good in understanding math but if I screw up its on the details...but then I don't practice much. I bet my computer programmer brother can't train a dog like I can. He's got a very high IQ, does high security stuff for the gov't, wrote stuff for a nuclear submarine etc...could I do that?...yes if I had the interest and didn't have a disability that would prevent working hours like that.

This has nothing to do with intelligence:
Some people are better at big picture thinking, problem solving, creativity
Others are best with details, analyzing, symbolic thinking
Others are more balanced (they tend to be good in math)

These skills are needed in many different professions. So you see, there would be jobs for everyone if our economy didn't suck. My brother gets turned down for being overqualified all the time...his saving grace is he gets paid shit-tons when he does work. He used to work all the time but now its hard for him. Our economy sucks.

Personally I think most people are stupid, its evident when I am forced to water down what I am saying to them. I don't know if they're just plugged into media and don't think or can't think anyway...hard to say.

Robots aren't replacing the jobs of humans, they're taking their rightful place doing the work of a robot.

See we are getting exactly what we always wanted. We are getting EXACTLY what the counterculture wanted, the mantra of 'Turn on, Tune in and Drop Out' is coming to actually pass as factually true. Just seems many people are failing to recognize this is what is happening.

What did the counterculture want? What did Turn on Tune in Drop out? In short, it meant, and still means, liberation. Liberation from slave existence. Liberation from having to do dehumanizing, unfulfilling work your entire life. This is what you have been wishing for, this is what everyone has been wishing for, this is what the counter culture stood for. And now it is here, the opportunity to make this happen is knocking on our doors, demanding we let it in. It is DEMANDING that we step about from the dehumanizing work of a robot, and let an ACTUAL robot do it, and then go off to become more human. But your saying no? Let you keep your dehumanized robot existence? Because it is comfortable?

No it is time to transcend to the next level, it is time to become more of a human, is too late to take back our wishes. We will no longer have to do dehumanizing work suited for a robot, the real robots will be here before our lifetime is over. We can now have what we wished from, liberation to be a state of being more human. Just now, your going to have to work even harder to do something that only a human can do. Every wish is double edged. Everyone wanted liberation from dehumanizing robotic work, but turns out non-dehumanizing robotic work is more DIFFICULT and requires you to use more of your BRAIN. OMG so scary.

I am a little pissed off, I am a little condescending and angry at all of you. Everything the counter culture has stood for in the 60's is now knocking at our door, LIBERATION can be had. But your backing down because it requires you to use more of your brain to do it? It pisses me off that the modern hippie has become nothing but a colorful excuse to be lazy and stupid, with absolutely no connection to what it originally meant. Lets build the robots to do the shit we don't want to do, not only will this liberate us, it will make you millions of dollars to let you help the world however you want.

Self programming machines will probably start to appear in 50 years and we will see a decline in the need for programmers.

Or atleast very sophisticated 'self learning' algorithms will be developed so that anyone can program a computer, much in the same way they'd train a dog.

Which is why its important that before my lifetime is out, these machines are feeding, clothing, and building houses for us, for free.

Don't be angry at everyone, I was nice to you...in fact I decided to post because they were condescending. I don't agree with everything you say but what you are trying to say about freeing ourselves from meaningless work makes plenty of sense. Right now we need to fix our economy so we can afford to work on robots.

Some people on here enjoy fucking with people, sometimes its annoying, sometimes very funny and you even expect it from them so whatever. Hopefully they aren't douche bags in organic life, most people will say stuff on the Internet that they won't say in person.

Some people talk down to whom they disagree with esp when it challenges their beliefs or obviously if provoked.

So generally you're berating people born in the ghetto who have never even THOUGHT to use a computer to do anything but "social networking" because of their shitty environment and how it's conditioned them, for not learning linear algebra and objective C, and how to understand "highly complex computer systems".

Okay, you have a point. If people had abilities that they have had no chance to accrue, then they could have jobs. However, as I said, they've had no chance to accrue these skills, and no desire to, because of a TV-fed culture that teaches them how only losers program the actual things they use every day.

Even if you get a job, the ratio of a normal salary to the costs of living is pretty crazy..... Because the money is all paid to about 3 guys. Oh, and to the shipping company busy moving the whole kit&kaboodle to china.

An asshole is every bit as important as a mouth.

I don't object to characterizations but I do object to the conclusions based on such a small sampling. Rygoody relies on much assumption from a limited perspective, that is attempting an intellectual treatment beyond his own legitimate capacity.

Not offensive, just clutzy and a good sport considering the railing he has received.

I remember a short story by Ray Bradbury we read in high school about a world overrun by technology. Forgive me for being unable to remember or find the name of it. A frightening glimpse into the possible future. It scared the fuck out of me.

And be pissed off at me all you want, but I'll be fucking damned if I'm going to sit by idly as someone talks shit on the way I make my living.
