The worst band ever

Opeth are bad. talented, but bad. Yngwie Malmsteen is a wicked guitarist, but have you listened to the crap that comes out on his albums? There's a reason he's covering classical music and not writing his own anymore.

Another talented band that cannot write worth shit would be Dream Theater...

Metallica aren't nearly as technically capable as any others mentioned in this post but I've yet to hear any of those artists create songs on the same level as Metallica circa 1989 and before.

This is my opinion. Any comments regarding any form of art are opinions as everyone can see it differently.

 

You've just called Dream Theatre and Opeth bad in the same post. Go back to your Slipknot concert with all the real metal fans.
I don't like Dream Theatre. Labrie's voice makes me want to rip my ears from my head, but Dream Theatre is a good band. They play extremely well, but they're not my style, and i don't like listening to them. That doesn't make them bad.

Obviously you've never listened to Slayer then, and as such, are not a real metalhead, and therefore nothing you post in this forum means anything to anyone.

And i misread what you said about Metallica. But this is 2006, not 1989.

I'll reply to this post, since you said the most in it, all of which is based on no foundation..

Portnoy can cover zep' tracks like they're white stripes, but the band he is in couldn't write a worthwhile track if their lives depended on it. the members of Dream Theatre are very skilled, they can play their instruments. DT has been referred to as a "band's band" as a result of this, but they have no songwriting talent. One could set a sheet of insanely difficult music infront of any of them and it would be played, but to set them out on their own to write, it is generally a boring trip in my opinion.

Thinking on this, opeth aren't even that talented, they write long drawn out tracks that for the most part lack focus. They have decent times, but for the most part its all drifting. You could defend them and call it all a journey, to which I reply "Are we there yet?"

I didn't mention slayer in my post, and to say i've never heard them is complete garbage, much like their last few albums (although I can enjoy Christ Illusion, and am currently listening to eyes of the insane). I stated that Metallica is not as technically gifted as opeth, dt or malmsteen, how you derived slayer from those groups is beyond me.

Oh, and yes, this is 2006, but who cares? Music is timeless. You shouldn't judge a band based on what is happening in the present, look at what they've created in the past as well. If I were to bring my ears strictly to 2006, I would wish for all sound to cease. In present day, even Venom sucks (Metal Black, anyone? didn't think so) That is painful.

Also, above all else, I've discovered that you've stated hatred for IRON MAIDEN and KING DIAMOND, so your opinions henseforth are beyond obsolete.


For the record, Slipknot does suck.

I would need a great amount of gin and juice before I'd be willing to change my stance on the much acclaimed Dream Theatre. Drop it like it's hot. haha.

I agree, their skills are very, very good, it is in the songwriting where they lack.

I've yet to hear anything from them, and I've heard each of the albums, that holds the songwriting that even Venom does with Black Metal, but Venom can barely play their instruments. Interesting, yes.

 

I got nothing. Except that i misread the part about metallica, and that's where slayer came from. And i stand by my dislike of KD and to a lesser extent Maiden. Suffice to say that we have different taste in metal.

 

Fair enough man.

Didn't mean to go off on yah there, but I get carried away, I'm all about the music, and sometimes I stand strong by my opinions when its not necessary at all.
