And also, I dont think president Bush even has the means to create a peaceful iraq... I would think to take, i guess, a more Democratic approach, not by bein a pussy abou the WMD threat.. lol which was a fucking joke.. but creating a more global comradery, support eachother in peaceful ways, and the terroists will go down in numbers.. the war in Iraq is only fuel for terror... Seriously, put as much effort into the war in Iraq that you would on Social welfare at home, and global welfare, and there would be alot less terror... Its an endless enemy
Terrorists are stateless enemies, so attacking states won't stop them. But having alliances will. But we can't have alliances with genocidal despots. So what's your actual solution?
Much like the war on drugs. It is a fight that will never be won, by giving into it you allow for escalation.
Ok, I'm going to just jump on in here. While it's sad that people have to die, and wars go on, nobody's considered the positive aspects of it. Without wars, disease, or famine, the world would overpopulate. So, in a way, people dying in one big surge is a good thing, because if the people didn't die, we'd have so many people living so long, just draining away at our resourses, both natural and otherwise. Now, I'm not saying I'm for the war, just playing a bit of devil's advocate here. Oh, and I didn't just come up with that, we learned about it in Geography, but I forget the theorist's name, sorry.
There are wars disease and famine and the world IS still overpopulated and for the ressorces remember 10% of the population lives with 90% of the wealth(something like that). This doesn't make sense to me... It is true that in evolution the stronger survive and the weaker die, but I hope humans are intelligent enought to make the weaker live...
You seem to be missing a BIG point here: Saddam wasn't a good guy, however, there are dictators out there FAR WORSE than them! Had our reasons to go to Iraq been that he was a terrible leader, perhaps bush would have more support (and probably more support if he wasn't an all out douchebag). But my point is that Bush's reasoning is obviously NOT just to take saddam out of power because of his al quida ties (even the US had those...) or because Saddam was a murderous leader. Otherwise, there would be a LOT of other countries we'd be in. This was obviously just the conveniant scape goat to get the US in Iraq for his own personal reasons. Bush's resons in going in is the biggest turn off of the war. If it were simply to get Saddam out of power for him murdering his people, it'd be differant, but there are a lot worse dictators out there who make Hussein look like a saint. To answer your question, I hate war. Any war. Not just when the U.S. get's involved, not just to ease my cnscience. That in fact makes no sense. Ease my conscience of WHAT? I am not out there killing people! I am here, with the 71% of Americans who no longer support Bush... I have done nothing to feel sorry for. I certainly don't feel the need to take responsibility for the actions of my country, just because I live here doesn't at all mean I support every action they do.
Overpopulation isn't a question of numbers, it's a question of resources. As technology improves, we will hopefully be able to support our population till it reaches a population stasis which happens to all developed countries. Probably be around 10 billion people. In the mean time, we shouldn't cheer on things that kill people like wars, famines and diseases.
There are worse leaders the Hussein was, but not many present ones. Theres North korea's thug, but he's also got a large centralized army, and possibly nuclear weapons which he'd use on Japan if we took him out. There are lots of other situation which I think should take more of a higher priority then Iraq should have, but setting up a stable democracy in Iraq is certainly a good goal. If Bush had other reasons, I could care less if Iraq does become a stable democracy, and I agree that Bush is a douche, however that doesn't effect my viewpoint of what we need to do in Iraq today to make it a safer place. America should intervene in the world because we have the power, and hopefully the vision to carry it out. If we don't intervene to stop genocides, then we are guilty of genocide.
One of the bin Laden brothers was interviewed for some show on The History Channel. He too stated that Osama had been disowned long ago, and that if the bin Ladens were to stay in the country they would surely be lynched.
The gassing of the Kurds took place during the Iran-Iraq war which was long before the first Gulf War. While Saddam was gassing the Kurds, he had full U.S. support. I believe that the U.S. even intervened on his behalf to prevent a resolution condemning him for this heinous action. Given these facts, it really angered me that our government had the gall to use Saddam's monstrous crimes as a justification for the invasion of Iraq. It is blatant hypocrisy, and an insult to my intelligence. I won't go into all of the arguments as to why interventionism is morally wrong as well as contrary to the interests of the American people. Writers like Justin Raimondo (antiwar.com), Lew Rockwell, Pat Buchanan, Harry Browne, Charley Reese, and General Smedley Butler have done a much better job of this than I could do. America went wrong when our government began to use our military as a publicly subsidized security force to protect the foreign interests of American elites. General Smedley Butler, one of the most highly decorated marine generals in U.S. history, exposed this in his famous essay "War is A Racket." I suggest that anyone who is gullible enough to believe that we intervene in foreign nations for noble purposes read this essay. I love my country, but I am angered at the immoral actions of my government. We all lost something when our leaders chose to ignore the warnings of our founding fathers against the folly of imperialism.
One of the best things our founding fathers did was staying out of other countries affairs (particularly in europe.) POlitics are awesome, umm well you said that things seem better in Iraq? There ready to start a civil war over there, there are are rumors of dividing iraq into a shiite and sunni section i'm pretty sure. People are dying just as often now as they have been. And please don't call anyones views "un-american" who are you , Joe McCarthy? Differing points of opinion is what keeps america together and a democracy strong. And just because a kid doesn't know anything about the suffering those people are experienceing right now doesn't mean he can't say he feels sorry for them. Someone said that he cant have sympathy for them, why not? If nobody ever felt bad for other people, then nobody would ever help other people.
