    Say what!?!

The differences in many of these strains are striking... overall appearance, smells, density, calyx structure, cannabinoid profile, etc. I have jars that smell like a tropical paradise filled with fruit, jars which smell like a skunk got splattered outside, some which smell like feet/old socks, some which smell like lemon, some like pine, some earthy, some which smell almost like fuel of some sort, etc.

I would have to agree that many of the cannabinoid profiles do not vary THAT widely among many of today's popular strains, but there are definitely breeders out there who are elevating the game of genetics to new levels, scouring all corners of the global for a single particular phenotype, etc. It's just a matter of finding the right people who have an eye and a nose for exotic and unique cannabis. Some of the strains I have TRULY stick out (even for headies) as being genuinely unique terms of terpenes and cannabinoid ratios, or at least far less common. And some of the strains I buy sometimes are just your run of the mill medical strains. Still some super dank pot with very high THC levels, but feels like it was grown for commerce instead of connoisseurs, yanno? Seems like the pinene and d-limonen terpenoid profiles are way too overplayed in the medical breeding game though... But on the flip side I've had many strains in the past year which I couldn't relate the smell to any pot I've ever had... truly unique, a single exotic and rare phenotype, bred out over many many generations.

It's all about enjoyment for me... I just love the cannabis plant, love everything about it, love smoking it, smelling it, growing it, reading books about it, eating it, cooking it, concentrating it, looking at it, contemplating it. Taste and variety (and also effect) keep things fresh and exciting for me... I can't smoke the same flowers for more than a few days max without getting bored and also tolerant to its specific composition.

eh its subjective.. my highs on dank dont improve my character, dont reduce my pain anymore, makes the house smell like a mixture of baby shit and dog shit, makes my ears ache, makes my throat hurt. and I still need to smoke just as much to get high or more to get high. ruins my reg high, cost more than I can actually afford.

someone with bad strains doesn't mean they cant grow, someone who can grow don't care about strains.

    Not necessarily.

3/4 of the best growers I know, who put out the best crops are all very much into selective breeding, genetics and exaggerating a certain phenotype, even if it provides the user with nothing more than an aesthetic enjoyment like taste and smell... However there are definite differences in cannabinoid profiles. I make hash oil and these differences are more obvious in concentrates (but only once you develop tolerance to oil- at first it just gets you ridiculously baked and you cant tell shit from shinola at that point)... I can tell big differences between a dab of a highly indica dominant strain vs a highly sativa dominant in terms of effect. Only trouble is its hard to find a majorly dominant strain one way or the other, most are hybrids within a certain range.. but if you're lucky and around the right people and places, you can definitely know whats what.... that's still uncommon for a lot of people though. This is just a generalization and cannot be applied across the board- just my experience with growers, much as your statement is simply a generalization of your experience with growers.

And yeah I'm not saying for a minute that people who don't care about genetics and breeding and developing new lineages can't possibly have a green thumb....

But yeah I would agree with Orison it is all subjective. But I think it remains in the realm of subjectivity simply because this plant is illegal; we can't properly study it. Once they nail down the chemistry and pharmacodynamics on many of these cannabinoids (since there are dozens) and especially once we can grok some understanding of the very mysterious world of synergies (which are very rarely studied in pharmacology), then these things will be brought into a more objective domain.

I need a desk. It's so hard to find a good place to sit and use the computer. my ass is numb right now because I'm slouching on the floor against my mattress.

aaaah. and having the computer literally on me is fucking distracting. I always neglect smoking!
