  1. There’s similarities in that the Ukrainians are being surrounded, but the Alamo was a small fort and Santa Anna had a 9 to 1 advantage. Kiev is a sprawling city of 3 million with the potential of a rifleman behind every pile of rubble.

Kiev is the size of Chicago.

And maybe not a 'rifleman', more like a bank teller, dentist, or store clerk, still learning how the damn thing works. Hopefully they've been shown how to aim it correctly. That alone is a big plus. There's also little mention of ammunition being available. A man with a rifle but only ten bullets is scary.

I've read that urban warfare implies a 3:1 advantage for the defenders.

Yes, but by Berlin, the German army was a beaten force, in disarray, with commanders (those willing to continue) unable to muster even small units.

I thought we were speaking of infantry, an occupying force.

Hopefully they have plenty of Javelins and NLAWs to take out the armoured vehicles .

However I suspect knowing Russian and the old Soviet tactics , they will surround the city and then bombard with artillery and artillery rockets . The city may well be flattened

The T84 Oplot is actually a Ukrainian tank and not Russian .

Its an updated version of the former Soviet T 80 manufactured at the Malyshev Factory in the Ukraine . Many are exported but a few are in Ukrainian service as below

Your the one who needs to get up to date

Your the one who is always harping on about WW2 and past Soviet victories .

Its getting tedious keep removing them as they are off topic and nothing to do with the Ukraine crisis we have of today .

he Malyshev Factory (Ukrainian language: Zavod imeni V.O. Malysheva, Завод імені В.О. Малишева ), formerly the Kharkiv Locomotive Factory (KhPZ), is a state-owned manufacturer of heavy equipment in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

As the saying goes: Patriotism is the last resort of a scoundrel - I am merely pointing out the liklihood of the Russians now and compaing that with events during WWII

Since Kharkiv is now in Russian hands, there won't be any more replacements for the Ukrainian army.

  17. They will be using personnel carriers not tanks when they get in the city, and the Russians will have to get out and fight. The will to fight to death will be a huge factor, assuming the Ukrainians have the munitions?

Vlad, we're splitting-hairs and chasing rabbits with this line. Infantry must dismount in order to occupy. Let's let it rest.

Just heard on CNN that our Chief-of-Staff Gen. Mark Milley will go to Europe tomorrow to meet with his cohorts in NATO. He's a no-nonsense type of military. We await.

With the Russian threat last week of using "precision-guided" munitions. With one direct hit on a tv tower, and much more film of apartment buildings, etc being hit, either their version of 'precision-guided' is less than accurate or it was BS.
