Militarily speaking , I think we are entering into the end game now . Having studied Soviet and Russian modern war doctrines for some time now this conflict is puzzling me a little .

Going off conflicts such as Syria and Chechnya ,the Russians tend to bomb cities into submission . Putin so far hasnt used his Air Force at that ferocity yet and yet he has resources in place on readiness .

On the Air Space front the Ukrainians and some others are calling for a no flight zone to be employed. This will not happen and the USA have already stated that they would not commit resources to enforce this . The same situation will apply to European air forces as well. The problem is you could get a clash which would escalate things and then Boozy would get his WW3 :p

I have seen signs that things are becoming are being ramped up by the Russians with more use of artillery and rocket artillery . The infamous convoy now some 40 miles long now is near to the Capital . I do think the morale of the Russian ground troops has been damaged as it would be fragile anyway being a conscripted army fighting against former "friends" . So militarily they will need the airstrike first before they go in as they would not have the stomach for an urban ground war knowing that the Ukrainians will be armed with hand held modern antitank weapons such as the US Javelin and the UK NLAW .

I think the Ukrainians could have done more as regards building barriers unless they are out of camera shot . Tank traps made from steel girders or railway track should have been made in vast quantities and used to block roads for Russian armoured vehicles. The bridges across the river should have been destroyed to delay Russian forces coming in from the East

So the signs are not good and this is going to get real ugly soon I fear with many civilians killed .

I dont know how anyone could condone and want this. Putin is clearly out on a limb with the rest of the world and will never gain the respect he strives for .

A picture of the US supplied Javelin a key weapon for the brave Ukrainian fighters

Putin doesn't want people to respect him, he wants people to fear him.

During the Second World War, there were Ukrainian collaborators with Nazi Germany. Approximately 250,000 Ukrainians enlisted in German-controlled military units, many hoping to thereby gain their independence from the USSR. However, More than 6,000,000,000 Ukrainians fought in the Red Army, 80,000 for the United States, 45,000 for Britain, and thousands more with France, Poland & Czechoslovakia; all against Nazi Germany.
Ukraine lost more people in WWII than the combined losses of Great Britain, Canada, Poland, the USA and France. The total Ukrainian losses during the war is an estimated 8-10 million lives; a number comparable to the modern population of Austria. 2.2 million Ukrainians were taken to Germany as slaves.
Today, Ukraine is a democracy arguably more democratic than our own, led by a popularly elected Jew whose father fought against the Nazis in WWII and who lost relatives in the Holocaust.
That's the country that Putin says he will “denazify.”

Congress just sent (as bI-partisan) to Biden a request for the 40,000 Ukrainians in the US as students, tech workers, etc, whose visas are bout to expire, to be granted "Protected Alien Extended Status". Something bi-partisan from our Congress!

As for the spurious notion that Ukraine is somehow an intrinsic part of Russia, Ukraine was annexed by the USSR after WWI and the Bolshevik Revolution. During the winter of 1932-33, Stalin seized every bite of food in Ukraine and shipped it to Russia, partially to feed Russians suffering an artificial famine as a result of agricultural collectivization, partly to break independence movements in Ukraine. 3.3 to 5 million Ukrainians starved to death, in a genocide memorialized to this day as the Holodomor. Having depopulated the countryside, Russians were “encouraged” to move into Ukraine in a process of “Russification” fully equivalent to Hitler's notion of Lebensraum.
Ukraine is fully entitled to the right of self determination and independence.

If it is wrong for Russia to violate the land of Ukrainians, then it should also be considered wrong for US troops to be in Syria and Iraq.

As to the recent change in Germany's long-standing policy of 'never send weapons to a warring country'. Some of the elders there must have remembered what Russian troops did to thousands of German civilians on their way to Berlin.

Granted it's maybe not the same as today, but 'old wounds still ache'.

I'm not gonna chase that rabbit. Just to say, the US has no territorial-gain intent there as does Putin. Enough said.

As Churchill wrote, (and I'll have to paraphrase here) "For a thousand years they will look back at this time (after the Battle of Britain) and say 'that was their finest hour'."
