ambulances/paramedics usually carry people to hospitals. they're privately owned. that's why it was charged.

and yes, i've had to pay those dues, too. it's expensive, and it took a long time to pay it, and i certainly didn't get to go on vacation ever or out to dinner, but it got paid.

Boohoo, and to call it right-wing garbage is absurd. Theres being liberal and theres being stupid, no one wants to see people die but thanks to non-tax paying benefit claiming UK residents, people who should be recieving treatment arnt, therefore people have to get insurance and go private but sadly most cant afford the treatment they need because they are retired with a shitty pension.

You can use that arl one you used of basically saying that anyone who thinks like the few in this thread, isnt bothered about human suffering or even go further and call them a racist because they want a family member to be able to recieve cancer drugs but they cannot because some immigrant who pays no tax is getting liposuction or some fat dolite is getting a free prescription of absurdly priced weight loss pills.

I'd rather be a realist than a liberal, we don't live in a Utopian society life isnt black and white, the NHS should provide for those who have paid tax to our system, and look after those who are the only reason that it is possible before anyone else. If you have been on the dole all your life you should be treated and then pay in some form or another, maybe working in the hospital for a peroid of time. Those who emmigrated here and have lived here for over a year without a job and still claim in some form or another should be sent back home on an easy jet flight, simple as that. Let them be treated by there own government, unless they are a refugee in that case they should recieve treatment as long as they pay in some way or another be it taxes or working in the hospital.

You can look at things in black and white and say people shouldnt be turned away, but what about cancer patients who've paid taxes all theyre life then? should they just be left to die and let everyone else rape the NHS? that 's whats heppening now.

I don't care if I sound like Hitler, need medical help in the US try egt some free help theyre, hurt yourself on holiday in 90% of European countries, unlike what you claim you will have to pay even if its A&E, you will have to pay the ambulance call out charge and the medical bill unless you get holiday insurance. Why is it near compulsary nowadays for holiday insurance if its free to get medical care abroad?

It's soft Johny English again isnt it, thats what people must think but say anything and you might be branded a nazi arsehole BNP member, all this can hardly be avoided though, this is what happens with capitalism here always has to be someone who suffers, If we had real socialism we wouldnt have crap like this. I'm a Marxist and proud.

To get NHS treatment you need to be referred by a GP. To be registered with a GP you need to be normally resident in the UK. Yes there are walk in centres for emergency treatment, minor health issues etc but to get ongoing and expensive treatment you need to be a UK/EU resident or pay... As for why we have those things and the USA doesn't, I'd say we have a healthier and more humane attitude to these issues in western Europe than they do in the states with a long tradition of philanthropic and benevolent social welfare that has been more or less entirely lacking in the USA, the exception among the advanced democracies, where we tend to believe that avoiding suffering is a good thing...

As plutonium suggests, we love to bash our own country.

I don't think you would get any Brit posting a thread entitled "The U.K. Rocks!"

There are good things about this country e.g. culturally and relative freedoms,
but as they say the grass is always greener.

Quite true but you get the asylum seekers coming over who have never paid anything into the system who get benefits and can claim for benifits for children/family in their own country thats what I'm against. If they want to come over here n work thats fine, most just see the UK as a free ride because were too soft so say no

Asylum seekers are not allowed to work. It's enshrined in international law that we have to accept refugees fleeing from oppressive regimes...

Wow. I really can't believe how close-minded people seem to be to other people's suffering.

Asylum seekers are also not here because they are looking for a "free-ride." They are here to escape oppression, war, and abuse; because in some countries, they don't have it as good as we have it. The thought of even having a chance to argue over health care, would be inconceivable to them.

Do some real research into the oh so cushy lives that asylum seekers supposedly have.

Quite true. The UK really is an incredible place, we are amazingly lucky to be able to live here. The chances are stacked against you being born in a wealthy liberal democracy and having such freedoms and opportunities. The level of self-righteous self-satisfied ignorance and petty shallow small-mindedness on display here is really quite sickening and saddening. To believe some of the things that have been posted in this thread you would need to have almost no understanding of some fairly basic facts about the country you live in or the world generally. Yes the UK rocks, but as with anywhere, you'll find ample stupidity...
