Free to do what? You and I are only free to do what they allow us to do. We claim to be freedom loving people, protectors of the weak and oppressed bringing freedom to the world but in reality we are hypocrites at best.

Sure we spread freedom our brand of freedom were push our beliefs on other countries and we’ve been doing it for decades that’s why the world hates us that is why we are targets for terrorism because we have persecuted peoples all around the world for generations. There has been more oppression of freedom here in the US then any were else our country was founded on it.

The native Americans were all but whipped out by the US government because they wouldn't allow the land to be raped and stolen.

African Americans were enslaved, murdered ,caged and beaten, African Americans still suffer discrimination to day.

Hawaiians also suffered under our military this is a lesser known fact but the united states military raped and murdered many during the"acquisition" of Hawaii.

Chinese immigrants were also enslaved forced to work for next to nothing on the railroad and when they were finished we tossed them aside like garbage.

Our prisons are overflowing not with murderers or rapists but with nonviolent affenders,75% of all prisoners are nonviolent offenders people just like you and me, where are there liberators? They live in appalling conditions being raped and beaten on a daily basis and nothing is being done to prevent it. We do live in a police state the patriot act has maid that extremely clear.

The US has never helped anyone except itself were in Iraq for the oil to believe anything else is simply laughable. We helped Kuwait for the same reason our entire presence in the Persian Gulf is to keep an eye on the oil. Open genocide is being committed in Africa every day why aren't we there helping them? Answer they don’t have anything we want.

Don’t blame the troops, blame Bush if you want but he's not the real problem the house and senate and the rich corporations that control them are the problem and until the America people stand united and tell our capitalist oppressor were threw with being pushed around and were going to destroy the government and start again

Everytime we wake up in North America in our gas/oil/hydro heated homes use the light switches, fillin our coffee makers with fresh water and coffee, flickin on the tv to watch the sometimes even propaganistic media we are experiencing freedom. We all know our governments have access to the full screens that illustrate the big picture.
Our governments know that they need future stakes in the worlds resources to allow us as consumers the right to continue floating the economic boat that the almost unanymous majority of us sail upon.
Now although many might say that the war may be fought for the wrong reasons, as long as we enjoy the forementioned freedoms one would have to either be a hypocrite or foreever homeless not to say that the troops aren't fighting for our freedom as CONSUMERS.

I know that everyone feels strongly about Bush, the war, etc... However, comments like these infuriate me.

"its the troops doing the actual killing, not george bush"

I was raised in a military family and I still have one brother who is on active duty. When he joined, he had a choice to join the army or go to jail (he did the coke thing in the 80's) He had no politics, very little education, and no forseeable future. He got out of the army (the first time) in 1991 in order to escape the first "conflict." He could not find a job, he came home to VT (very liberal) and was actually shunned in our small community. He reenlisted so he could support his family. He does NOT agree with this current war. He did NOT vote for Bush, he is (unfortunately) just doing his job. I have since moved to TX where I find too many conservatives for me. However, the one thing that I do agree with them is that I will always support our troops. I wonder how many others joined during Clinton's administration, during PEACE time and are struggling with their jobs, conciousness, and politics as they fight this war. Do not put the blame on the troops. Many who enlist are young, uneducated, and just trying to find a way up in the world. Talk to a soldier the next time you see one, ask him or her what she feels, don't jump to the conclusion that if you join the military you want to kill people-that's ridiculous.

Where do you get your info? Stoners surmising is not reliable. Bush has pushed the Patriot Act which I do believe is unconstitutional, but who decided to jump from that to police state?

You might be surprised at an actual answer to that question. Private security corporations like Blackwater and DynCorp are taking the lead in US gov't contracts, with regards to the whole rounding-us-up-like-cattle thing. There's plenty of good evidence to be had that will point to the looming threat of a kind of martial law on the horizon, for much of America, most certainly this year.

Times are tough for the PNAC these days, and well they'll do whatever now to stay afloat. Some of the more sinister reasons behind the over-deployment of regular and reserve armed forces overseas, become painfully obvious when seen in context with the fact that our soldiers aren't presently able to protect us here if they're someplace else.

Well they are fighting to bring democracy to Iraq. Which is surely a good thing. AS the more democracies throughout the world the safer the world will become. This is because throughout history there has never been an instance of a democracy declaring war on another democracy. So democracy abroad will help to protect our freedoms at home. This is because democratic countries respect each other, dictatorships don't.

Well Iraq has just had three sets of elections over the past year. The first to choose a transitional government, the second to agree on a consitution and the third to elect a parliament. In March they will go to the polls again for local elections. That to me seems like a battle for democracy. Also ask the troops themselves, ask them what they are fighting for and what they hope to achieve in Iraq. They will reply that they are trying to help the Iraqi people, to ensure democracy thrives and to defeat the terrorists.

I think it is most disgraceful of the left to refuse to oppose tyranny on the grounds that military intervention by the west in Third World countries is imperialist. In my opinion human rights, freedom and defeating international terrorism come before politics. The politics of how Iraq's economy is run can come later when democracy and stability has been fully achieved. But first the priority is to ensure democracy in Iraq is a success and that the terrorists there are defeated.

Heres some pics of U.S troops & actors training in Oakland California...
The actors were told to beg for food and shout that "their rights were being violated",and a policemen on a loud speaker says "Civil Disobedience Will Not Be Tolerated"

If civil disobedience will not be tolerated, then that means that we must commit it now while we can. . .

Have you any friends or relatives in the military? If so speak to them and you find that most feel they are playing a useful and highly valuable role for society ensuring that our country remains free and sorting out conflicts abroad to create a more peaceful, safer world. In short you don't join the army if you are warmonger, only if you are a peacemaker. And look at the number of US military peace keeping operations across the world. They are vast from Bosnia to Sierra Leone. American and other NATO troops are helping to keep warring factions apart and enforce United Nations ceasefires.
