Hell Ive been trying to recruit people..is that normal??? "Ah man your hair is perfect for locks". But so far noone has jumped on. I do hear alot of "I use to have dreads" stories. Mostly in tattoo shops. The wanna-be rastas from white kids do annoy me a little...dont know why. Seems a little contradictory to me maybe, since I find a lot of racist undertones in the rasta deal. But maybe Im taking it wrong.
alot of the early rasta documents I have read included parts specifically against whites, but none of the doctrines do now as far as i know
I'll have to look into this, havn't studied rasta yet. Give me another philosophy to add to my repertoire
I recruit people too, I got one that is just waiting for me to do em, to her hair, and another who is growing his out
theres a cute guy i see in the jobcentre, and hes cute, and his hair is SO perfect for dreading (and he'd be even cuter) but i havent got the courage to tell him so =[
Aye~ Funny thing is the girl seems to have dropped the whole notion, along with her dreads. For her it was just a style to be worn and flaunted till she got tired of it.
I havent studied it too much honestly. Enough to know it turned me off. I dont care much for any religion really...so whatever. If you probably ask half the white kids here (in my area)that think they are rasta's they probably couldn't tell ya jack about it other than they like pot and Marley. I do know that in my area the black rastas don't care much for the wanna be white kids, so seems to me, that there are racial undertones.
the funniest thing was my grandma. she is so proper and sweet, she just wants you to come inside so she can feed you, type thing.... she was actually REALLY interested in them.... and then she asked to touch them, and they were REALLY hard at the roots, and she got really excited, and yelled "holy shit!"... and i've NEVER heard her swear before, EVER, it was just too much for me, i think i laughed so hard i pissed myself! fuck. that was funny people approach me for drugs. or they don't approach me at all. or they give me funny looks. hahahaha. i could care less. losers.
around here, alot of the white rasta kids are just listening to bob and smoking pot, some of them are real rastas. as far as the black rastas liking the white kids, they love talking rasta thoughts and bible talk and all that. they love it!!! they dont like it when the kids dont know anything about it. but if you do know about it and follow the rasta way of life they love you.
Hee hee I was just out getting groceries with the family today...and I was making the baby laugh and I get this tap on my shoulder, and its this young guy....like maybe highschool age.. anyhoo I turn around and he goes, "sorry but I just had to tell you that you have amazing hair and you are the most beautiful mother I've ever seen." i was flabergasted. all I could muster was a big smile and thanks.... Made my day...
Aweee that is too sweet Tannaleigh!!!! Yeah Captain, I can see where true rastas would find that disrespectful.
here's one for you, it was before i had dreads but it has to do with asking questions... i guess i look like some kind of stoner, because one night my friends and i were hanging out in front of a gas station drinking pop and talking. a beat up old subaru pulls up and parks on the other side of the lot and 2 guys get out. they walk past us and the first guy walks into the station and the other starts to walk in and as he is holding the door open he looks right at me and says... "Do you have any pot?" I looked him straight in the eye and without missing a beat i said... "Only if you have some PCP, im willing to make a trade." His eyes got as wide as pie plates and his mouth dropped and he stared for about 15 seconds before rushing into the station. My friends and i cracked up and left.
this. allll the time. I always get. "I wish I had hair like that" from little old ladies at the nursing home.
Somebody yesterday told me they liked my "clean dreadlocks." She asked how do you keep them clean? I told her through washing them and she thought you weren't supposed to wash em! Dreads are rapidly becoming very popular here. I see many black and white dreaded domes everywhere it seems. With so many people who are dread, seems kinda crazy for such an assumption to linger... I hope these ppl are washing!
