Hi,peeps! I'm just me,and I have to say that all this Silverhippy, alter ego incest shit is driving me crazy because I'm not really sure what's going on. Why can't people just be who they are? It would be far too confusing for me to adopt a different persona, and more importantly -what the fuck is the point?

 

I'm pretty blase about it, it happens all the time on the internet, and everyone surely knows to take everyone on the internet with a pinch of salt.

I was surprised at how really obvious it was in this case, we realised it was him before actually having the evidence, so I genuinely thought it was going to be a joke he was playing on us. In hindsight it shouldn't have been done the way it was, but the UK forum is very different from the rest of hipforums and is quite a unique place where we all know each other quite well and where we're mostly pretty genuine and up-front, and feel comfortable teasing each other, having a laugh and taking it all in good humour. That's what makes this place special.

The situation has not been helped by heavy handed people from random thoughts coming along, not understanding the uk forum community and making judgements about things they clearly don't understand, and turning light hearted threads into lynch mobs or self-righteous ego trips.

The way to deal with this would be with our good humour, openness and sense of community... it's no big deal really, we've dealt with worse before and the forum always eventually bounces back If you can't laugh about incest, what can you laugh about?:tongue:

Heavy handed?

It's an interesting act of somewhat twisted genius to rationalize what some might see as a lynch mob mentality as community spirit... but to each his own I guess- as long as they are playing in their own sand box so to speak.

Just because I may have nagging questions about an individual doesn't mean I agree with chasing them off in the manner witnessed here.... and just because you seem to see things a certain way does not make it fact. Remember, for many, many millennia it was painfully obvious to the greatest of minds that the world was flat.

 

I do think closing a thread which was clearly made in a jokey manner and good spirits in UK Randomness just because it mentioned incestual lsebians was heavy handed, yes.

Silverhippy was our friend and there is no way we would create a lynch mob aimed at him/her/them. That's not what we do. The thread was originally made with the assumption that Silverhippy was playing a joke on us and that he would come clean. Obviously that didn't happen and the whole thing became a bit more serious than intended, but it only became something that could even be considered being anywhere near a lynch mob after a load of people from outside who didn't understand and most of whom didn't know any of us became involved unnecessarily, apparently trying to create drama out of it.

As for "high school clique", if that impression is being given again it can only be something that was brought over here. To be perfectly honest the UK forum had been quiet for a few months and there were only a few of us still posting much, but this in no way could be described as a clique. The people here have always been open to everyone and very accepting, low key and lighthearted. "High school clique" is far more like what I have witnessed in, say, Random Thoughts, or the kind of atmosphere the people from the incest forums and those who chose to get involved created.

 

As I've already said, the way the uk forum will deal with this is with our trademark good humour and gentle irony, and our inclusive, friendly, tolerant spirit which is clearly on display in our most popular threads, and clearly was on display throughout this whole drama, although probably invisible to many of the random thoughts newcomers who don't quite get the spirit of this corner of the forum and came here for the prurient spectacle of something which turned out to be a bit of a fuck up all round.

It's painfully apparent at times that people want and expect very different things from a forum like this, and it's amazing how different parts of such a big forum can have such very different characters. The uk forum is and always has been its own ecosystem quite distinct from the rest of the hipforums. We're very welcoming and tolerant and open to newcomers but at the same time it's pretty easy for people to miss the community spirit and inclusive good sense of humour we have built up here over years and years and to try to shape what they see according to what they expect from elsewhere. The recent invasions have been a pretty good example of people coming in and trampling all over the carpet with muddy shoes instead of sitting down and having a cup of tea and a spot of tiffin.

Right now we need to accept these differences, let people drift back to where they came from and where they feel comfortable, and deal with this storm in a teacup in our own way. All of this discussion and joking is a necessary part of moving on. Hopefully one or two of the newcomers will see and like what we have here and join in... But generally it's time to move on in the way we always do, with good humour

 

Ya know what lithium, thats crap, you went on a crusade against me cause im using my Fathers computer and i used some of the things he said here, im sure i said before i talked to him before i joined this site and he told me he came to this forum and messed with you guys about always being sleeping, so i picked up on that, you went from thread to thread running me down, there was no humor meant in what you did, you were just running me down, it's ok i won't be back here anyway, in a couple weeks im going home...

Replying to it dignifies it.... and the proof can be furnished once you go home- and both accounts are logged in and posting simultaneously- but by making a dramatic and injured final exit before that conveniently takes the possibility of proof out of the picture... and regardless of what the facts are would tend to lend a good deal of credibility to lithium's assumption. If I were in the shoes that you're describing I'd be biding my time until I could furnish verifiable proof--- and would be enjoying a personal chuckle at everyone's expense as they dug themselves into a rhetorical hole here.

There are a few things on your part that just do not fit the circumstances... this reply from you being yet another. If you are being forthcoming then in a couple weeks when you get home, log on and create a thread entitled, "Dad, I'm home!" to which silver can respond... until then all of this- the veiled attacks under the guise of good-natured playfulness and the publicly exaggerated cries of injury and woe do not accomplish anything beyond encouraging the escalation of something that seems ill intended and otherwise pointless.
