I'm glad you do. :cheers2: Anyone who has no interest can feel free to skip over all my posts. My feelings won't be hurt. Looking back at what I posted several months ago, I said quite a bit about my personal experiences with the sixties, and also in other similar threads in the past. Unfortunately, as time goes by, we will eventually have no one left except those who were impacted more indirectly by that revolution, as I was. We will NEVER run out of people who were indirectly affected, because the influence of that time period will go on forever. The genie can't be put back in the bottle. It still amazes me how far those cultural changes reached into the far corners of the US that had such a different history as distant places like Berkley and San Francisco. And all this was long before the internet. Music and television carried core portions of the message ever deeper, until there was barely a public school classroom in rural America that hadn't been touched in a significant way. That was my perception at the time, and the internet has helped me verify it.
Actually the way we speak is not right; I'm cleaning the place up. Unless we want to continue to pollute the earth we need to learn to apprehend it. Our emotional body is intimately connected our sense of rightness If your sense of of rightness causes causes you to have a position against someone else then you aren't very friendly. this world needs friends. the reason I do this is so you look at the tone and specifics of your language you will see why the world is in the state it is in. It is the easiest thing to speak clearly but we taught to lie as a way of protecting ourselves because someone punished you for making a mistake so we have not seen the world in its true colors because we don't examine our own If we did there would not be time for gossip. we speak our values and they return to us exactly as you had spoken them. don't want it to happen then don't say it. If you want it to happen do it. It is not hard to stop gossiping if you really have something to talk about
Do enjoy the political scene? Making observations doesn't involve taking. good thing you re enjoying yourself. how could you be enjoyed otherwise
It is a teaching example. I have nothing against anybody on this whole planet. i want us to heal and we can. It is our tongue that is killing us because the mouth speaks from the abundance of the heart. If you are saying bitter things then bitter you are. Once you are honest with yourself about this effect then you can discover the cause of why you are bitter. What happens now is we blame everyone else for inability to function decently. Reason for this, public school, television, and ignorant traditions.
The sixties in America were filled with negativity, as society confronted many serious issues that very much needed to be addressed. The positive changes that were made show us an example of negative energy sometimes being a good thing. Without the anger that built up against the old ways of doing things, chances are remote that positive ideas for doing things a better way would have had any influence on the future, and we would still be stuck in a 1950's mindset of conformity and white male heterosexual christian supremacy. Old ways of thinking rarely die a peaceful death. Wall Street's current mentality (hostile to ordinary people) will not go down quietly either.
It is impossible to say with certainty where the western world would be now without the 60's social/cultural revolution. After all, many societal changes are works in progress and were already started before the 60's and before any hippie sub/counterculture came to be. I have the feeling the impact of the 60's is mostly cultural.
The impact of the sixties was also spiritual. There was a great enlightenment similar to The Original Enlightenment. Society as a whole confronted religious, social, ethnic, and monetary biases. Individuals grew through discovering their inner natures. We are still seeing the tremendous influence of these two polarities as society and the individual strives to understand and integrate what was experienced at that time.
What am i. I'm not a towel either. Do you need a moderator? What have we done lately? Polarities are of the same thing, not opposite things. Society on the whole is still society on the whole. Soul searching doesn't do any good we already have a sense of self in the body. To change is to look for those things you don't know. We can pontificate about the past but it does nothing to bring light into the present. I think that movement is bearing fruit. i mean i never lost my inspiration from it. It has taken me a long time to figure out how to apply the lesson but I never stopped trying. What I saw is spirited young people with no life skills. it is the integrity of the individual that is not coming to fore even though if we weren't afraid personal integrity would be no problem. The spirit is still there but no one knows how to break away from the corporate tit. if we weren't afraid of personal integrity there would be no problem but people are afraid and therefor cannot call on their integrity if they are concealing things. If we have faith in each other we can raise the energy of planet. . It is genuinely fear and mistrust that is raping the world. It is that simple. The worlds condition offends me because you all suffer from it. I've discovered something about how our world appears to us and it is exactly how we would have it to be. When we say something is this or that way, that is the way it appears to us but it's appearance is not out there but conceived from within. Every thoughtful conception is loosed on the world just by entertaining the thought. It is hard to imagine that we actually speak things into existence, we are not used to the idea that our lonely little selves have the capacity to change the world. But think how did we get to this point? We changed the surface of the entire planet. We can and must change our minds about the world or we will find retribution. The planet is past the point of no return climate wise. The only reasonable way forward is to pull the plug on the old, as the system is self protective and has no impetus to change, and start with a fresh feeling. We have the science now we need the spirit. What is happening is we are confusing wholly subjective with the relatively informed and thinking on that formula we had seen a correct thing when the way we parse our language has made clear perception impossible. We are two parts, tasting and knowing. Our taste without being informed makes us go willy nilly down a path of making adjustments to the unanticipated things that don't seem to fit our program. If we learn to use our powers of discernment correctly then the lion will lay down with the lamb. it appears that we become upset because of the things people say to us, but we know we can ignore anything and the fact is we suffer form the things we say back. I've examined this in myself very closely. The emotions follow your narrative and as you learn to speak only of the things you know or ask questions about the things you don't there is no limit to the the feeling of security that will provide. The elements are not hostile to us, we have been hostile to the elements. Not our fault as it represents a childhood trauma unwittingly inflicted on us the first time we were punished for making a mistake. If our function is to know and lend joy then being punished for a mistake makes it seem like learning is a bad thing. It is a contradictory lesson which produces conflicted people. A mind without anxiety is kind. It is not the light that hurts our eyes but the doubtful dimness behind them.
evolution is too slow that is why we have inclination to grow. Nothing wrong with our equipment. People just don't know how powerful their equipment is and if they did they would be more circumspect about it. It is not that we lack what we need it has been a question of how we apply ourselves.
Just so happens that is what I am working on Thanks for the chuckles I do enjoy you and hope for you enjoyment evermore
In the 60's a new Pandora's box was opened up. No one can put the lid back on. But it's not as if we have time to pause and drive forward, as Mcluhan said, looking into the rear view mirror. Since the 60's we've been in a phase of seemingly accelerating change. Technological, social, scientific - in just about every sphere of life. Women now are starting to get equality, Black people, Gay people - all groups who in 1960 were very much looked down on and persecuted in both Europe and America. The situation has changed, and it all really stems from the changes of the 60's. Even psychedelic drugs are now being looked at once more by serious researchers and scientists. IMO the hippies were on the right side of history.
^^ Thanks for the 'likes' friends. It's gratifying to get assent from people for whom one has respect.
i agree but we haven't taken it over and it is entirely possible through peace of mind. A mind at peace produces it's effects. a mind in turmoil produces it's effects. Personal integrity is a mighty defense against the mob.
i can sure thing of things i'd rather talk, and think about, then other humans and how humans view each other. nature and technology are both way more interesting then anything about human emotions and their resulting social structures and relationships. we certainly feed what we focus on, and i'd much rather focus on little trains and little houses and getting along with trees and plants and animals. i don't mean we can expect everything to be nice to us, but we sure don't have to be the way we've been. nor have we always been so. i was in highschool in the 60s (62-66, there was no such thing as middle school at the time) and there was a hope we could do things differently then we were doing then. and i can count many many things that have changed for the better. many of them as a result of young people daring to think differently at the time. there was also one big mistake in america, and that was throwing public transportation out with the bath water for the sake of the automobile, and then shoving it down the rest of the world's throat to do much the same thing. we wouldn't be having the global climate thing we have now if that hadn't happened. in the 70s a lot of hydro-power was abondond for coal and uranium, that was another big mistake. i mean all the little dams that once generated power, before we started building needlessly gigantic, that don't produce any, just to prove we can. but it wasn't a decade of all milk and honey. we were fighting many of the same battles were are having to fight all over again now. because the tea nazis don't have parents who lived through the depression of the 30s, and have no idea why the things that were important to us mattered. corporate ownership of media was the same problem it is now, even without the level of consolidation of it we now face. many many people had to put up with having their heads bashed in, or go to jail, to bring about the many improvements we say the 70s consolidating. (same word, more positive meaning). we didn't have an internet then. we had pirate radio and phone phreeques. (it was the latter who went on to invent the kind of computers ordinary people could afford, that even as toys became a unifying force for smart people, even of disadvantaged background. but that was the early 80s and late 70s) corporate people today try to say that was all about drugs. well they were around, but that isn't what it was about. not really any of it, other then young people jumping on board because media said it was.
Human emotions and their resulting social structures and relationships are natural and technological aspects of our being. It is relevant and meaningful to discuss these things as common currency but not as something you have that someone else doesn't. In addition to relationships with plants and animals we have a fundamental relationship with each other. There are many reasons and mistakes that our dreams remain relatively unfulfilled and all of them can be attributed to a lack of practical skills. The sixties was primarily a youth movement. Takes time to grow up.
