i definately didnt mean to derail things at all..lol

just meant6that any effort applied can be redirected to have more results.. lifting a 30 pound barbell 50 times is the same effort as helping an elderly woman cary 30 pounds of groceries to her car
dragon youd feel better if u got outta the pajamas and went for a 5 mile hike through the woods then u do after 5 min on the crosstrainer wouldnt you?
im all for excersizing i just think riding a bike to work does as much food as driving to the gym then to work but saves u money for gas abnd gym and decreases polution
why do u pay to do what u can do on your own..theres no heavy objects outside of the gym? the last gym i was in had a lil 30 foot oval track for running, people spent like 30 a minth to run in a circle indoors when they could run outside for free

the best waty to get more excersize is to get rid of the things helping u be lazy, trade your car for a bike your tv for well anything..lll sneakers maybe.. the time u spend idle now use it to do anything sactive like going for walks dancing whatever dragin u say the cross trainers next to the computer..its usefullness is its location it remonds you to get off the computer and excersize..move it to the basement and it becomes useless its out of sight and forgotten..the gymn you use because you pay for it thats its reminder to yiu to excersize to get away from the things keeping you idle
but shgouldnt a brighgtr sunny day be plenty to get ya outside doing things?
    things that are free?

peolle complain asboutr the economy alot but theyre still willing to pay for the privelidge of picking up a heavy object and putting it back down...it boggles the mind
go oyut to the garrage and i bet ya find plenty of heavy objects u can picjk up and put down for free
hell isnt there a 50 or 100 pound sack of potatoes in the kitchen?
if i never left this room i can see close to 1500 pounds worth of heavy objects i could lift
and i definately dont need machines to simulate walking up stairs riding a bike or rowing when i can walk up stairs ride a bike or go rowing (although i preffer sailing over rowing and flying over clibing stairs...and unicycles are twice the fun and workout of bicycles

Hey soaringeagle it was me with the equipment by the computer. Yeh I'd get more fun from an hour in the woods by the river down the road, and often do. But for the days or weeks I don't manage to shrug off the blues, the compromise is worth the gain :) ....and when this Norwegian winter has finished I'll be back out in the garden digging for veg, so-to-speak :)

Hey did you find you snacked less with something for your mouth to fiddle with? I found my lip-piercing did that for me. Go go Freudian oral-fixation theory.

SE, I'm sorry, I've been away so long I forgot how pointless it is to disagree with you.

Seriously though, your ideas and suggestions show a level of ignorance that I wish didn't exist. You know that your little beautiful idea of how lovely the world would be if everyone just followed your simple advice and got rid of the family minivan so they could be healthy, save the environment and ride a bike to work is completely ludicrous. Seriously, how realistic is that? Are you kidding?

And your knowledge about the economy is obviously flawed, if you think that people refusing to purchase gym memberships will help us. Economics doesn't work that way, and if everyone stopped buying all the crap they really could live without, we'd all be fucked.

But before I start another pointless "debate" with you, I will stop myself. Please, all I ask is for you to recognize that what works for you doesn't work for everyone, and that YOUR ideas are merely idealized views on the world as we know it. If your solutions were so rewarding and so easy to do, people would be acting that way. But they're not, because it's not realistic!

Whats wrong with having unrealistic ideals? Change has to start somewhere. Thats all Im gonna say though cuz I dont want to get in the middle of this.

oh i see your an expert on whats realistic without even trying huh

the economy is a mess because people dont have enough money to asfford the things they need, stop butying things you dont need and suddenly you can afford the things you do, then its not so bad anymore
your solution to the economy is buy more useless crap? brilianbt, then when you cant afford to eat you eat the useless crap?

why is it unrealistic to ride a bokje to work if u live close? not only do you save thouysands a year but u get wa workout anbd dont gotta spend money for a gym then u save more and got more money to spend on the things thay you really need
having enbough to get what you need and pay the bills stabalizes the economy
the economy fails when money is wasted constantly till theres not enough for nesacities
for instance the billions funding a useless war could have gone to education infrasdtructure improving things here and we wouldnt be in this mess today

i really dont understand how you can think the way to fix the economy is to waste yet more money on useless things?
is the drug industry failing? is the useless crap industries? no its the usefyul ones housing farming transportation banking
the movie and entertainment industries thriving football players still make 15 milion for chasing balls useless crap industries thrive because they are all about waste
you actualy believe 500 dollars up to 6000 isnt a waste to watch a football game yet wbhen foods a dollar a pound u complain and pannic
would our economy fail if nobody went to the superbowl? no only a few mega rich ppl would be affected and hundreds of thousands of people could afford food for a year for the price of a ticket

our current deficit thats got us in this mess is peobly less then what is wasted anualy

    related to dreads
dresdkits cost 70 and the only useful thing in them a comb worth 1 dollar and bar of soap worth 3
everyone rushews out to buty theyre dread kits wasting a ton of money, helping to keep that 1 company at the top of the dreadchain even though they do the greatest harm to dreads
the best proven method to get dreads doesnt use that 1 dollar comb and can use cheaper soaps too
that 1 business if it went out of business would mean many many saved dreads and saved dollars zero waste means every dreads got at leasty 70 extra dollars to spend on dreads, thats a few tams from provate crafters that each could use the money more then any dreadhewadshq scammers could
each of those crafters can then afford beads from other crafters and so on and then bcommas selling her herbal washes and so on the economy of the entire dread community increases by destroying the waste of the dreadkits
no more wasteful economy now productive dreadonomy
    andeveryomne benifits

back ti the gym example.. when u waste money in the gym noone benifits but the ceo of that gym and theyre not hurting one bit
but if u lift things for someone who needs something lifted they benifit u benifit and zero waste
u cant tell me theres no hospuirtol u can volunteer at can u? lifting someone from stretcher to bed is excersize that benifitrs the community theres always something u can find to do..its so easy..

If you didn't want me to answer and avoid getting in the middle of this, you didn't have to say anything at all.

BUT, since you did, I'll answer your question.

There's nothing wrong with having unrealistic ideals if you can recognize that they are indeed ideals for yourself. Expecting everyone else to follow your unrealistic, Utopian ideas is just patronizing; particularly when you imply that people who DON'T live the way you do are stupid, somehow insecure (really?) or not doing their part to give back to homeless people and save the environment... or something.

And what needs to be changed? People going to gyms to work out...? Please. The way to save the planet is for everyone to start hiking in the mountains and riding bikes to work? Please. In what universe is that ever going to happen? I don't care that SE feels that way, but I do care that he uses it as an argument about a realistic expectation for people to get fit, get healthy and enjoy themselves. As if there's something inherently wrong with people who go to the gym to work out. If you didn't know, they're all stupid and generally really insecure. It's also unhealthy to go to the gym, feel competitive and want to better yourself because you see what someone elses hard work has done for them... Make sense now?

    ... yeah, I didn't think so either. :p

ETA: PLEASE SE, get real. You can't pick out one sentence of my post and exaggerate it to the point where it's no longer anything I was talking about. And yes, to economy needs to be stimulated from the consumers buying all the products that the producers put out there. Why do you think so many people are losing their jobs? Because no one is buying their shit because no one can afford it because banks and mortgage companies gave out loans to people who they KNEW couldn't pay it back. These people then started paying it back on credit which accumulated even more interest. Therefore banks weren't getting the money back from the loans they gave out to people who couldn't afford them, and these people owe their first born child to the government to pay back their stupid mistakes.

Yes, I know how the economy works, and NO I wouldn't tell people to go out and buy a bunch of crap that they don't need. But I also wouldn't be under the illusion that not having a gym membership will save your wallet and the economy.

And the bike/car scenario is just to ridiculous to argue over. You really don't see why it would be unrealistic to TRADE IN (your words, not mine) a car for a bike so that you wouldn't waste money driving to work if you "live close"? Please, man. People have to go to work in all sorts of weather, in all sorts of physical conditions, on all kinds of time restraints. People also have to generally travel further than bike distance sometimes, or enjoy traveling with more than one person. Mr. Minivan Dad may also enjoy being able to pick his children up from school without having to attach a wagon to the back of his environmentally friendly mountain bike.
