Respect for what, you say? Well for one thing he was a man of action and not just words. He worked his ass off for world peace and better relations between religions, right until his last few days. I disagree with some of the tenets of the Catholic church but he did bring about some changes, which hopefully will lead to even more changes. He was the right man at the right time.
Big deal. His organization is full of pedophiles which they cover for. Morever, the church is a political organization (not religious) involved in trying to get more converts at whatever cost and affect public opinion to their favour in countries where people are catholic.
