well, historically speaking, nixon DID do pretty good with foreign policy. he was just an ugly little troll with delusions of grandeur and questionable ethics. like every other politician. except the ugly little troll part.

well they all had warts and none of them left office without some blood on their hands and zombies in their closets, but i'd have to say jfk and carter were to me, the least embarrassing of all there have been in my own lifetime. i guess truman was still in when i was born, but my childhood was when isenhour was in, and that was kind of morally depressing to me, with mccarthyism and all that crap. i mean, even kennidy wasn't great on forign policy in a lot of ways, i mean he still, at least acted like he bought into the communist boogie man, but domestically, he was as good or better for america itself, then anyone before or since. even there there were problems, but i seriously don't think anyone we've ever had or been likely to could have handled them better.

carter was the other one, that was worth anything, at least he was the least embarassing of the lot on forign policy, actually made me able to not feel ashaimed of the country i lived in, with his refusal, at least publicly, only one, unlike any of the rest of the lot, again in my life time, to (refuse to) demonize everything that didn't kiss the ass of little green pieces of paper.

i wouldn't call ANY of them heroes, but at least those two were half way decent. the closest any of them in my lifetime ever came to being so.
