Piper at the Gates of Dawn is very trippy. But if you want something trippier, try You (by Gong) or Ege Bamyasi (by Can). These two are the essence of psychedelia.

In my opinion, For crazy shit to listen to while spaceing out, I love King Crimson, but i pick and choose the songs (im not the biggest fan of large orchestral stuff), and the Mothers of Invention... (Freak Out is a masterpiece).

But thats me.....to be honest, I'm also not the biggest Floyd fan, so i really have no idea what you are all talking about.

i'm not thinking of bands, necessarily.
the most psychedelic sound that i've ever heard is a sitar or a tamboura.

Good call man, Ravi Shankar's amazing!

Also, anything by Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd and a few post Syd things as well.

Listen to Amon Duul's Lemmingmania or Can's Future Days These are two psychedelic German bands that are amazing. They both come very close to Pink Floyd in their musical exploration. I have albums if anyone wants them

I agree, there's some great Krautrock that people just don't know about. I'm starting to collect some of that stuff on vinyl.
