On the "trippy" THE ROLLING STONES album: THEIR SANTANIC MAJESTIES REQUEST, I like the song: 2000 light years from home, but their long song: sing this all together (see what happens) is pure acid rock - "open your mind and let the pictures come". Their song "gomper" also has a very trippy, psychedlic ending! "in another land" sounds like they're singing underwater! Some songs only have psychedelic words and the accompanying music is not true psychedelic! This album delivers the goods, and has passed the acid test!

For psychedelic MUSIC (and not just words), listen to:

sing this all together (see what happens) - THE ROLLING STONES (ALBUM: THEIR SANTANIC MAJESTIES REQUEST)
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida - THE IRON BUTTERFLY is another very long song, but gets into heavy psychedelic/acid sounds. It was played ALOT on the radio, in the late 60's/early 70's! THE IRON BUTTERFLY were supposed to play at WOODSTOCK 1969, but got stuck at the airport and couldn't make it to the site!
MIND FLOWERS - ULTIMATE SPINACH (ALBUM: behold & see)
(Ballad Of) THE HIP DEATH GODDESS - ULTIMATE SPINACH (ALBUM: ULTIMATE SPINACH)
ULTIMATE SPINACH was a popular Boston, MASS psychedelic band, in the 60's. I have their 3 CD's.
THE STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK is a cool 60's psychedelic band, who had two songs in the 1968 movie: PSYCH-OUT (starring: Jack Nicholson, Susan Strasberg, Dean Stockwell and Bruce Dern): PRETTY SONG (FROM PSYCH-OUT) and THE WORLD'S ON FIRE ( a cool psychedelic tune played at the end of the movie, when Susan Strasberg was tripping on STP (or DOM). "BLACK BUTTER - PRESENT" is another cool psychedelic song from THE STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK.
There are many others, but this is a good start.

    Trip out.

Your Gonna Miss Me - The 13th Floor Elevators, gotta love that crazy electric jug. They practically invented the genre too.

Burzum - Det som engang var / Dunkelheit / Jesus' tod
    Drudkh - Glare of autumn
    Darkthrone - Transilvanian hunger
    Emperor - The wanderer
My Dying Bride - Sear me III
    Shape of Despair - Still-motion

Nobody else will probably classify it as psychedelic, but for me it just WORKS that way.

Hah, yes. I can relate to that. I have that with KoK - Through times of war as well, or Covenant's In times before the light.

I've listened to both albums once or twice in a distant past but not anymore recently, I should retry them. I doubt it'll really be my view of psychedelic black metal because what makes the songs I mentioned psychedelic (and beautiful) for me is the atmosphere and repetition. Keep of Kalessin and Covenant are quite varied if I recall correctly. Ah, we'll see. :)

I forgot to add Xasthur and some of Judas Iscariot's songs (Eternal kingdom of fire, In the valley of death...). There's probably more I can't come up with right now.

I heard this recording of Ravi Shankar at Monterey ('67) and it was very um... transcendental, to say the least! :)

So many good psychedelic songs to choose from. But one that particularly comes to mind is Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles, but it wouldn't be half as psychedelic if it wasn't for that slowdown in the middle of the song. So trippy...

Another really good psychedelic tune is Astronomy Domine by Pink Floyd. Very spacey in many ways...

The early Dark Stars, those were fuckin insane and trippy as hell.

I see all these floyd mentions and yet nobody even says Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast? Its in the freakin title, come on. What about Atom Heart Mother?

I don't think there can really be a "most psychedelic song".... that'd be like saying that one song is more country than another.

    Primal Scream - Long Life

Though I think more "psychadelic" songs have been written, most of them were from the 60's when recording technology wasn't what it is today. A truly psychadelic song needs crisp production with lots of crazy shit going on. :D
