come on guys, theyre even starting commiter flights into space, someone lend me 15 million & i'll take the trip myself just to prove its possible.. was that guy who won 10 million building his own privately owned spacecraft a hoax too? the technology needed to land on the moon existed for a good while before the 1st moon landing, how can ya say the launches are hoaxes when ya can just go to cape canaveril & watch the lauch yourself

if we didnt land on the moon, where did all this green cheese come from? lol

yea the government lies alot, & is hidding alot of truths, but this aint 1 of em..& maybe the reason thy never dispute these claims is cause it keeps alot of ya thinking about fake moon landings instead of looking towards the real shit they pull

i thought there was no friction in space, if there is no friction how would they steer? i really dont care cause either way it doesnt affect anyone, but i was just curios

they have thrusters on each side of the craft.

The thrusters are part of the RCS, or Reaction Control System. There are 4 sets ("thruster quads") on the sides of the CSM, with each thruster capable of firing in 4 different directions. By firing these thrusters in the proper combinations, the spacecraft can be controlled in pitch, roll, and yaw.

A wonderful Thread - read it all with pleasure - best advice to all is to check out http://www.badastronomy.com as several folks suggested. NASA is the only government money since WWII that returned more money in benefits than we put into it. If we would restore the level of funding we once had, we might have an aerospace industry again instead of creating McJobs. We graduate fewer engineers each year than South Korea does and wonder why the economy is tanking. However, it is nice to see in spots throughout the Thread that critical thinking and doing your own research still lives.

yes but if there is no friction there would be nothing for the trusters to push against

I try not to comment on anything I've never experienced...and I've never tried space travel. Still it does seem questionable. After all, we're trusting people with billion dollar grants...if I had that much money I would hold onto it no matter what. I can easily imagine people lying for the cash.

In the vacuum of space, rocket motors do not work by "pushing against" anything but the ship itself.

They work by expelling mass (burning propellant and oxidizer) at high velocity in a given direction. Simple mass transfer is all that is needed to result in a thrust in the opposite direction.

See Newton's third law of motion.

The lack of friction (drag) in a vacuum allowed the RCS thrusters to be quite small and still perform their function. In a zero-G vacuum environment, you don't need much of an impulse to get the ship moving in a given direction. IIRC, the CSM thrusters only produced 100 pounds of thrust each.

People certainly would have an incentive to lie to line their own pockets, no argument there. The reason that the "moon hoax" theories are so ridiculous is the MAGNITUDE of the conspiracy that would be involved.

You would require the absolute, lifelong cooperation of tens of thousands of scientists, engineers, and technicians, as well as the astronauts themselves. Not to mention the Russians who were monitoring the whole thing, and the amateur astronomers and radio hams worldwide who were able to track the ships themselves.

The events are simply too widely known, well documented, and independently verifiable to be faked.

Moreover, at any point one of the members of this conspiracy could become wealthy and well known by proving that it was all a hoax. Just does not make senses. Someone always tells, from the great train robbery to deep throat the truth comes out eventfully.

i sometimes think it was a hoax.only becaise the disaster in vietnam was going on,the army was getting beat up pretty bad and the nation's morale was low.what better way then to fake a moonlanding to boost up the american morale and the sense of superiority ,since the sense of invincibility was taking a huge hit in vietnam,by a bunch of backwards vietnamese.but thats just me.

Based on the arguments presented in this thread, I'm gonna have to say that the moon landing was not a hoax. The dude who started this thread has provided nothing but wack, wack, WACK evidence, and has been shut down at every turn. Also, he said the moon was a star. Riiiiiiiiiiight.

Do you mean something other than the entire scene being a scale model, not an actual photograph?

What is that white "pole" sticking up between the flag and the LM supposed to be?

It's great that you spotted that is is a scale-model.My point being that others;-with a fleeting glance will say that it's Apollo 11 on the Lunar surface & there's Neil in the foreground.
Just as I have posted a photo of the Lunar Module with no stars in the background & people on the thread find every photo-technical detail to frustrate this hypothesis.

As the Poll currently stands: If you add the 'Don't Knows' to the 'Yes's' :The Skeptics/hoax believers are NINE ahead!.

We are finally winning the argument.
