The Lord of the Flies

yeah, I loved the lord of the flies. I saw the movie too **vomits** it was horrible. I would estimate the film's production value at about 800 dollars. I was really hoping it would be a good flick, to go along with such a good book.

 

did you watch the black and white movie one, or the one in color...

 

The original film was quite good.

"Lord of the Flies" is the only book that ever gave me nightmares.

 

It was really old black and white. Little music, all the boys talked like they were reading off of cue cards. Alot of the boys (samneric for the most part) were naked nearly half the film.

 

Yeah.. See..I generally like the book I guess..the symbolism is really good and I like how Golding describes things..but Jack..Jack scares me..and I just finished reading where Jack and his tribe kill the pig..too much detail for me there...*shudders*..I saw the movie and i KNOW that piggy at least gets killed..and im not looking forward to hearing THAT described.

 

I really liked the book. I wrote my term paper on how all of the characters were really just different aspects of the human pysche. For the main characters, Jack was the id, Piggy was the superego, and Ralph was the ego. Its interesting how Golding thought that once the mind is put into a situation were survival is paramount and civilization is no longer in existence, the id naturally takes control, because it is the best adapted for survival.

 

^^cool. I wrote my paper on all the different masks in the story, and how they affected each character's actions.

 

i read it 6 years ago.. from what i remember, it enjoyed reading it.

 

I just got up to after Simons death..simon reminded me of mysef..Jack scares me....

1984 gave me the chills. That was a discouraging book if there ever was one...

 

I just started reading it for english class as well.
Haven't read too much of it though, so I can't really say I have a strong opinion about it.

 

I finished it today..the last 6 chapters or so really sucked me in. It was enjoyable

 

I felt the same way about LOTF, but TKAM was.... boring... bored to tears by the damn thing.

 

aww no way!! I loved TKAM...hated the movie though...

 

Haven't read Lord of the Flies, but from what everyone has said, it sounds quite interesting and I'll probably read it tomorrow. To kill a mockingbird I found boring... and I am not easily bored...

 

The symbolism was good and all that, but I hated Lord Of The Flies, it made me want to be sick and I threw it across the room when I finished it. I found it very disturbing. Not my sort of book I guess

 

Hmm I thought Lord of the Flies pretty interesting. I thought it was one of the coolest books I got to read in school. Most of the stories I read in school I find kind of boring. For example I had to read Watership Down. That book was a waste of my time. I couldn't believe I had to read a book about rabbits...

 

Hah, I had to read walden two(well, actually, my friend gave it to me, and I knew we were gonna be talking about it, so I kinda had to read it) and I fucking hated it. You had the guy talking about the commune, and then the one guy who's like, "hey, that makes alot of sense", and the other guy's like, "I don't like it, it's WRONG" and has a fucking temper-tantrum, and then they go to the next place and the first guy is like, "hmm hmm that makes alot of sense. Dol Dol Dol" and the other guy has another fucking temper tantrum. It was just so damn boring. It took me like a month to read that damn book. In the end, I just said fuck it and read something else.

 

I thought it was alright, but I think its not completely accurate to call a book a children's book, simply because the main characters are kids.
