Tis Saturday Afternoon, Just Finished My Lunchtime Pizza So I Popped The Cork On My Fave Champagne, Cheers All... Cheers Glen.
My dad is a big innis & gunn fan so whenever a visit my parents we will enjoy a few of them. Always a nice treat. Although ive never had the one u got in the pic above
Honestly, this may be my least fave I&G brew. That's not to say it's bad... it's like when you're watching one of those reality competition shows (The Voice, Face Off, whatever) and they're down to the last 5 people or so. They're all great, just some are greater than the others.
It appears that Kansas City Missouri's Boulevard Brewing Company just recently started distributing their beers in my part of the country, since it is the first I've seen them on the shelves. I have heard a lot about them over the years, but it isn't until now that I've been able to give them a try. Of the three offerings this brewery carries at my local Wegmans, this Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale had the best reviews (a 93 on BeerAdvocate), so this is the one I decided to pick up first. I really enjoy this saison, which is similar to other highly regarded saisons like Saison Dupont or Ommegang Hennepin. Nice upfront tartness and mild sweetness with some hop bitterness and a yeasty, spicy finish with some coriander and clove notes. 8.5%ABV. If you like saisons/farmhouse ales, you will enjoy this beer as it is true to its style.
Heard all the good stuff about that one but am not a farmhouse fan so passed up on it the few times I have seen it. Finally got to a trader Joes and got to see the beer selection. Picked up one of each of the 4 different bombers they had. At slightly more than 2 bucks a piece it's a bargain for the alcohol alone. They had one for 5 bucks that was a vintage reserve. Gonna try that now. Edit: Drinking it now and mouthfeel is like champaign. It's got a good dark taste. It really should be made with cherries. Reminds me a bit of mad elf if it wasn't made with cherries.
Tonight it's another beer from Boulevard called Calling IPA. It's a really nice IPA which is really a double IPA at 8.5%ABV. The hop profile is outstanding with lots of fruity, citrus hops upfront and a bready malt backbone. Really nice beer.
A few years back I actually wrote a term paper for my Intellectual Property Law class I took in college about the legal rights to the name Budweiser and the conflict between České Budějovice and Anhauser Busch. It was a very good read, but I've searched all over my hard drive to find it and it's nowhere to be found.
I am drinking an imperial porter from reaver beach brewing. The name was unpronounceable. Tried to look it up on their site but they don't put much work into it. Anyway 12% abv and it tastes similar to bourbon County stout...just a tiny bit lighter. You can taste the alcohol but there is 0 alcohol burn. One of the better dark imperials I have had in a while. Although I don't have them often because of the price...this wasn't too bad at $25. For a growler.
Not including shots of Alacran tequila throughout the night, this is my brew for the evening: (Alc. 7.5%) (Cold, straight from bottle) Smell: Hmm... well, that's a weird smell. Smells dark, some coffee notes... but with a twangy bite. It's like a big brown beaver that has a piece of straw hangin from his mouth and one squinty eye. Taste: Definitely a dark brew with an expected thickness. It comes across a bit thinner on the tail end, but that would make sense when compared to a beavers tail. There are some coffee notes in there, but otherwise nothing really sticks out flavor-wise. Overall, a nice beer that's lightly carbonated and satisfies the thirst for something darker and heavier. It also has that lighter back end, taking away from the robust mouthfeel, but at the same time it makes you want to come back for another sip... just to get that heavier side again. I may not stroke it all the time, but I'd hit that more than once. Edit: Currently 2/3 through bottle #2
Oh... and as you may know, I traditionally include NSFW pics with my beer selection for the night, over on the forum I initially post these reviews on. But tonight, I can share the pic with you...
Look man, this is a chill zone thread where we talk about beer and girls and boys n all that jazz. it aint strictly about alcohol, u got that? >.<
